Who in thier right mind would aimlessly go around targeting and killing defenseless cattle and equine? In the old days, Fort Worthians wouldnt even blink about stringing up someone who needlessly slaughtered someone elses investments. What was HE thinking? I say we leave him hog tied in the same field he killed these animals and let the bulls figure out a punishment for the fella. Scumbag .

I was leaving the Wells Fargo Bank on Blue Mound rd at noon today and looked over to see a blue mustang had ran over a motorcyclist and the man was pinned under the car. I watched as a dozen people came pouring out of the Taco Bell and hit the ground running from thier pickups to assist without thinking twice. I sat there and cried for the man who was hit and the compassion my neighbors have for eachother without question. I watched them lift the car up on its side and talk with the man on the road until the fire, police and ambulance arrived.

I was shaking, skipped lunch and still cant stop thinking about the drama this afternoon. I sure hope the motorcyclist and driver are alright and home tonight safe and sound.

KUDOS to the brave citizens who ran out to assist when thier fellow American needed it most! I saw what you did and it has affected me greatly. THANK YOU.

I was delighted to finally find an item that has haunted my memories since my early youth. I remember staring at these photos as a child and never knew what they were called or who drew them until last night.

Pity Kitties and Pity Puppies were the making of an artist named Gig Keane.

My SIL is in town and got the bright idea that we all needed a waxing at the local salon. We got there and Mom went first. She came out and upon inquiry remarked it was less painful than childbirth.

I entered the back room next. Lisa sprinkled baby powder all over my right legs, then proceeded to roll this hot wax across them and stick strips of paper fabric substance up my legs. She would then begin to ask me something and Id answer and then she'd RIP the paper up- OOOOOO it stung- just like being whipped with a leather belt on your leg.

I told her so, and she replied "do you know why you are getting this spanking?" "cause i was bad?" I asked? Then we laughed. I decided though it was better not to laugh just to scare my SIL. Didnt work- when it was her turn in the room- she turned Masochist - she opted for a full fledged brazilian , then went for her underarm pits and eyebrows too boot!

When they finished up- they squirt baby oil on them to remove the wax. However for a few hours I had wax boogers up and down my legs I was picking off.

To Sum it up- Ive never had a Sister before now and i think I like it- even though it hurts sometimes she sure comes up with some hairbrained ideas.

After the Salon visit we ended up at Target - She snuck off to look at clothes and jewelry while my Mother and I went to get some additional pillows. I needed some Cheese, so we walked over to the food aisles and  SIL joined back up- we were ready to go when I decided you couldnt have cheese w/o crackers- so I quickly darted down the cracker aisle and opted for simple saltines this time. Arriving back Mom exclaimed "You brought your purse in right?" I said "YEAH! " looked down in the cart and it was no where to be found! My mouth dropped with my stomach and I thought maybe I left it in the cart. I look at my Mom then over at my SIL who is grinning from ear to ear. It took me a second to figure out why in the world she could be so delighted. She looked like the cat that ate the mouse! Then I realized she stole my dang purse! I yelped" DID YOU TAKE IT?" She nodded still smiling and explained that she was teaching me a lesson. OOOOOOOOO I was hot to trot...I just looked at her and said "IM real mad at you right now" , said I wanted to look at the books for a second, they followed- I kept turning back and saying "Im STILL mad at you!" Sisters sure can be painful...but she sure is good at making you love her nevertheless.

What a Stinker though. :) When shes around- be alert and stay on your toes :p

My father was so good humoured and he taught me to laugh and learn from my mistakes.

He also had some nasty sayings I remember him singing in the shower alot- but he'd get out and be peein and sing "BY THE WATERFALLLLLLLL"...so gross.

Then one time at Texas stadium once he came out of the restrooms there and declared to me: "Here I stand all broken-hearted...I paid a nickle to chit and only farted!"

heh heh

Once I got in trouble with my school for fighting- and it turned out to be the last time. He gave his older sister, my Aunt Bean 10 bucks to show up in tattered house shoes, Lime Green curlers and her smoking ancient caddilac to pick me up. Folks were standing there staring at her with thier mouths open- she had me by the arm so everyone knew she was related to me.

He always made Sunday nite dinners on the grill- and still does. Last time I was over at thier house both neighbors came over for a piece of his smoked chicken- said they could smell it. His grill was never fancy.

He shares my love for Salsa and Chips.

He took me on alot of Oilfield sales calls and had me working early.

He'd lie to me when my cats passed on - they'd dissapear one day and he'd tell me he took them over to my aunts farms. I think I know really now that Im older- but it sure made life easier for the time being.

I got lucky- I can say anything to my father and he'll listen and still love me anyway. smile.gif

He was a good christian man who went to church every Sunday, was the deacon a couple times and has given the clothes off his back for a friend in need.

He taught me its better to give than to recieve.

(sigh) I LOVE MY DADDY! jumping-smiley-017.gif

Sister Mary Ann, who worked for a home health agency, was out making her rounds visiting homebound patients when she ran out of gas. As luck would have it, an Exxon gasoline station was just a block away.

She walked to the station to borrow a gas can and buy some gas. The attendant told her that the only gas can he owned had been loaned out, but she could wait until it was returned. Since Sister Mary Ann w as on the way to see a patient, she decided not to wait and walked back to her car. She looked for something in her car that she could fill with gas and spotted the bedpan she was taking to the patient. Always resourceful, Sister Mary Ann carried the bedpan to the station, filled it with gasoline, and carried the full bedpan back to her car.

As she was pouring the gas into her tank, two Baptists watched from across the street. One of them turned to the other and said,

'If it starts, I'm turning Catholic'.

Yesterday we paid a visit to our future middle school band hall instructors. I must say the man was a definite conductor of people and a master of nearly all the instruments. I was intrigued as he explained they practice walking in and out of the band hall for the beginning two weeks of the school year. I asked if he was kidding around, and he just sat there staring back at me like there was nothing strange about it. I laughed at him and explained we already taught my daughter how to walk...he just grinned , blink blink. hmmm I think he was serious. although , Ive always had a difficult time with folks and dry humor- I tend to fall for some major BLEEP if its said with seriousness. So, I guess we will just wait and see what happens.

The instrument I have in my closet I was hoping she'd be playing just wasnt in the stars, so now we are on a mission to find a clarinet. The one instrument I was concerned about due to the cost of reeds. well that just figures. :o)

On Memorial day many years past I fondly remember visiting my great aunts brothers grave in a National Cemetary. We went a few times a year actually and it was always a sight to behold and one I have always treasured in my heart.

If you have never been to a National Cemetary, please take the time to visit one. There are thousands of crosses row after row as far as the eye can see and in front of them little flags whip in the air beneath them. It truly puts the price of freedom into perspective.

I live thousands of miles from my sweet great aunt today, but I find myself wondering if she is still able to pay a visit to her brothers plot and how much I long to be with her on this day.

Today off the side of the house, there is a big United States flag waving in the Texas breeze to remember those who gave thier all..and I can honestly say I truly appreciate thier sacrifice and they are gone but not forgotten.

Kind Regards,

Sharkie

Hey these are fantastic!

TEXOMA BEANS

1 lb. pinto beans
1 lb. hamburger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons salt, or to taste
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 four-ounce can of taco sauce
1 four-ounce can of green chiles
1 tablespoon of ketchup
1 number-two can of tomatoes

Wash and sort dried beans, then cover with water and bring to a boil. After they're boiling, turn heat off, put lid on, and let beans sit for two hours. Brown the hamburger meat, then add it and all other ingredients to the beans, and simmer in the crockpot for several hours until the beans are tender.

Ive got some crockpot mac and cheese going, the washer and dryer and humming along, the Christmas tree is all a twinkle and the house is toasty warm.  Its been wonderful to be able to stick around the house the past four days and just enjoy the family.  Tomorrow the grind of school and work responsiblities begin again.

It was made with love .

As she presented it proudly she declared it came from her own kitchen.

I peeled it open, it consisted of bread and a squirt of mustard and between the slices laid a nice big fat chocolate chip cookie. :)

You truly have not loved or lived til you have been around children....they are the closest thing to heaven.

I don't use chemicals so I have saved lots of things online I found over the last few years. Natural Alternatives to Controlling Insects: Pest-Repelling Plants: The following plants will repel insects in your garden: borage, dill, garlic, onion, fennel, sage, thyme, parsley, nasturtium and French marigolds. Basic Insect Spray: This spray will repel insects and can also kill fungi and mites. Mix 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid* (not detergent) and 1 gallon of water. Add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to kill fungi. Add sulfur to eradicate mites. Put solution in a properly labeled spray bottle. Basic Oil Spray: This is a general insect repellent. Mix 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid.* Put solution in a properly labeled spray bottle. Peppermint Tea: This is an all purpose insect spray, and is also useful for repelling ants. Brew peppermint leaf tea. Cool and place in a properly labeled spray bottle. Garlic Spray: This spray will repel insects. Mix 1 quart of water, 2 teaspoons of garlic juice, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap. Put solution in a properly labeled spray bottle. Minced Garlic: Minced garlic placed around tulip bulbs will discourage squirrels from eating the bulbs. Lemon Spray: This spray will repel white flies and soft bodied insects. It also gets rid of pet fleas. Boil peels of 3 lemons in 1 quart of water, cool and remove peels. Put solution in a properly labeled spray bottle. Basil Spray: This spray will repel white flies. Boil water and add a few basil leaves. Let it steep and add dishwashing liquid.* Put solution in a properly labeled spray bottle. Banana Peel Repellent: Banana peels will repel aphids. The potassium from the peels also stimulates large blooms. Place banana peels around roses and other plants. Hot Pepper Spray: This spray will repel insects and eliminate black spots on roses. Lemongrass Wasp Repellent: Place lemongrass in a vase on your picnic table to keep the wasps away. Natural Alternatives to Controlling Fungus: Anti-Fungus Spray: This solution will repel and combat fungal disease. Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil and 1 gallon of water. Vinegar Spray: Use this solution to combat fungal disease and black spots on roses. Mix 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 gallon of water. Anise Hyssop repels Cabbage Moths Borage repels Tomato Hornworm Catmint repels Aphids, Colorado Potato Beetles and Squash Bugs Geraniums (Pelargonium) repel Japanese Beetles Pot Marigolds repel Asparagus Beetles Sage repels Cabbage Moths and Carrot Rust Flies Trap Crops - If you can’t repel a pest, throw it a sacrificial plant. This is often accomplished with another vegetable crop, such as surrounding cabbage with a trap crop of collards to draw the diamondback moth. The pest insect will congregate on the trap crop, which is eventually pulled and disposed of. The most famous flower trap crop is probably the use of nasturtiums to attract aphids. Nicotiana is also good for this. Basil planted among tomato plants actually does enhance the taste of ripening tomatoes, in addition to protecting them from disease and insects. Basil's aroma repels flies and mosquitoes, so place some potted basil on your outside decks and by house entrances; and you will also be protected. Borage is another herb that is a useful herb companion plant for tomatoes. Borage helps deter tomato worms. In addition to basil and borage, garlic is another companion for tomatoes. Like chives, they repel aphids; they also control cutworms and hornworms. Summer savory is a great companion plant for onions and garlic. Planting summer savory with beans enhances their flavor, and protects them from bean beetles. Planting oregano with beans also enhances their growth. Plant horseradish near potatoes to deter potato bugs and for more disease-resistant potato tubers. Thyme, when planted near cabbage, helps deter cabbageworms and whitefly. Thyme attracts bees to tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant. The bees do the pollinating and you get more fresh produce. In addition to thyme, there are several other herbs that are good herb companions for cabbage. Peppermint, rosemary, and sage attract beneficial insects. Plant some hyssop, marigolds, and dill near cabbage and they will lure cabbage butterflies away from the cabbage. Chives help prevent mildew, deter green flies, and repel aphids. Planting clumps of chives under your roses will save you a lot of time working in your rose garden. Calendula, nasturtium, poppies, and marigolds (Tagetes patula and T. erecta) all attract hoverflies into the garden. Hoverflies are beneficial insects; their larvae feed on aphids. Garden sage and mints also deter a variety of pests while attracting beneficial insects. Chamomile is a tonic to any ailing plant it's near in your gardens; and if you have any ailing house plants, give them an occasional "drink" of watered-down chamomile tea. Catnip is good for controlling flea beetles. If you think these insects might be a problem in your garden, use catnip as a border plant around your gardens. Marigolds (Tagetes patula and T. erecta) produce a root secretion that destroys root-eating nematodes. These microscopic worms can devastate entire trees as well as strawberry crops Insects can't stand plants such as garlic, onions, chives and chrysanthemums. Grow these plants around the garden to help repel insects. Water your garden in the early morning to conserve moisture loss and to help avoid powdery mildew and other fungal diseases that are often spread by high humidity levels. http://www.organicgardentips.com/vegetable_gardening.ht

This afternoon I saved a birdy from an unfortuante death. The bird builds a nest each year in our eaves. She had gotten one of her skinny feet stuck in a crack in the wood surface and was hanging upside down ...by the time I got the ladder out and back she was laying on her side, wing spread open panting like a dog, foot still stuck. I got a stick and gently poked her foot out...she popped into the hole , finally away from the crack. 15 minutes came and went and I saw her fly out of her hole. So glad i could be of service to her, she has some little ones to take care of. :)
