I don't consider this to be my first blog post [although it is] because I usually put more thought into my blogs and they tend to be quite lengthy. But just out of curiousity, what is it about people's blogs, posts, comments, etc. annoy you the most?
I like to read people's blogs, comments, and topics posted on message boards. I like to read eveybody's opinion even if I disagree with it. But what annoys me the most are the misconceptions about certain topics, specifically regarding immigration and homosexuality and how some respond to them.
All I read are complaints, but no solutions. I read people attacking others via personal insults and racist comments if they don't agree with their opinions and not adding to discussion. I read people attempting to make an argument, but bias it because they have no evidence to back it up. Evidence does not consist of your opinion, but of academic sources [journal articles, text books, conferences, your own sponsored research, etc.]. Furthermore, evidence does not come from just one source. It comes from various sources; sources that support your perspective, sources that don't, any and everything that contradicts the information. My point is is that a real argument or debate provides sources from both sides and then based on the available information a decision is made as to what the real problem is and what potential solutions could be implemented.
I also find it annoying when people get off topic. Instead of answering the topic at hand, they carry on with their own conversations about something completely unrelated. I don't have a problem with that if that is the kind of comments you seek but if a blogger is posting some story and the comments are irrelevant, that is a bit too myspace-ish for me[i.e. a topic is about gender issues and then comments are about horse racing, what does that have to do with anything? That was a completely random example, but you catch my drift.].
I use these forums as an opportunity to read your opinion about certain issues because what you say matters. I use these forums as venue with which to share the knowlege I have acquired through years of research because what I say matters as well. I want to use these forums as a way with which to create an open discussion about any issue but not as a place where I or anybody else has to be verbally attacked in a racial or personal way. I don't think comments should be directed at people but at the topics. Any child can play the name calling game. Any uneducated person can use racial slurs. It doesn't take much to question one's allegience to issue, a person, their country, etc., but what the real challenge is is to respond to whatever topic annoys you the most in a way that you don't seem ignorant.
So please, feel free to comment on what I have stated without name-calling, etc. because I would hope that some people have much more to say. Thanks!!!
