There are angry demands for the firing of radio host Don Imus, whose show is also seen on MSNBC.  Imus is known for stretching the limits of propriety, but this time stepped over the line.  He, in an exchange with one of his sidekicks referred to the Rutgers University women's basketball team in offensive and racist terms.

He says it was an effort to be funny. Clearly, it was not.

He's since apologized.

One of those demanding Imus either resign or be fired is the Rev. Jesse Jackson.  But Jackson, too, has a history.  In 1984, he made remarks that insulted New York and Jewish people.  The Washington Post recalls that Jackson at first denied making the comments, then apologized, but never distanced himself from the hateful remarks of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

Your thoughts?  Forgive? Forget? Does an incident like this one cause you to examine your own heart?

My thoughts are along your lines. Al Sharpton is NOT the person to be casting stones here at Imus.

Sharpton should address his racism before worrying about others.

1) its not whether or not Jackson ,a hater, should be able to point the finger.
If that was the case NO ONE could point a finger, AND WE NEED TO POINT FINGERS

2) Imus stated his opinion as is the haters known as Sharpton/Jackson

3) this is about power and control.
If Sharpton and crew can get corporations to cave in, like they do many times, then hate wins.

4)If Imus stays THEN FREEDOM WINS

5) I dont like Imus, I like freedom

Have we not learned by now that it is ALWAYS OK for the AA population to say anything they want without recourse?

God above forbid a white guy tries to make a joke and they want to send the dynamic duo after them.

I guess they arent getting anywhere with the Snow White lawsuit. Oh yeah, they now have an AA princess in the mix now.

Oh, the opression!!!

You know, everyone has a little bit of bitterness and bad thoughts wrapped up inside them, common sense tells you when and if to express those thoughts. There is one thing about being human; we don't always follow the path of common sense and we make a mistake; that's called being human.
Jackson and Sharpton are looking for that inch of a mistake so they can stretch it a mile. These two "gentlemen" are the purest form of racsim and deceit and are satan in person that go around the world to spread his diseae. These two "gentlemen" could NOT only cast the first stone, they would be so far back, the could not even see Imus.
Misdirection: how do you make an elephant disappear in a room full of people, misdirection. These guys can be robbing the blind and embezzling (sp)millions and no one would know it because they put so much attention away from themselves.
Remember during the Florida issues during the elections, Jackson happened to realize he had a baby from an affair. What a fine example of our Reveren along with total forgiveness; Both "gentlemen" better hope they are Not judged and punished by the Almighty, the way they are judging and punishing others.
How is Jesse's illegitamte children doing ?

I actually think people get offended way to easy. First if you don't like what a person says look at the source and just ignore it. If Sharpton would have said nothing this would not have been an issue anywhere. If you don't like the comment just ignore it. We still have freedom of speech right?

Google "Jesse Jackson's children".
There is an article on CNN.com (January 18th,2001), Jackson's extramarital affair produced a child that was 20 months old at the time of the article. After it became public, he acknowledged it (what else could he do) and asked for forgiveness. I don't recall anyone asking for him to be fired or stripped of any title; I think he was forgiven without strings attached or consequences. He is human, also.

I don't like Imus or Stern, but I do think they can say whatever they want to. MY RADIO HAS A DIAL and an ON/OFF switch and I know how to use it.. :)

What I want to know is when are Sharpton, and Jackson, and whoever else is complaining going to go after the Rappers and Hip Hop artists and producers as what they have in their songs is every bit as bad as what Imus said. Plus they say it over and over and never appologise.

I do not believe "his honor" the mayor of NO was fired for his "Chocolate City" remark..actually he was re elected!!! Just what did he mean by his remark...he erroneously called it an acronym when he was questioned by the media...It was not an ACRONYM......!!!!!!

But Captainron, remember reverse discrimination is okay. The descrimination card only goes one way ! Thats why they have Soul Train and NO Hon(k)y /Asian/Mexican train; Mrs. Black America and NO Mrs. White /Asian/Mexican America; The Black Ballet and NO White/ Asian/Mexican Ballet; The Black Panthers and no White/Asian/Mexican Panthers and so on.!
If they are not racist, EVERYONE should be included in ALL catergories; ALL RACES OR NO RACES, PERIOD !
The race card is getting so old, they ought to start creating laws for people mentioning race descrimination as inciting a riot; unless something is truly proven to be a race issue.
People are getting their fill of ignorance and consequences are soon to follow !

My thought is the NAACP is a load of garbage and doesn't seem plausable in this day in age. They try to let kids get away with things that don't have a clue what racisim is and possibly help them for the wrong reasons. For example in my opinion the Paris Tx thing. If Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson want good things to happen they need to dismantle it and all join Elk's Lodges. It's like that Simpsons episode where there was a No Homers Club and Homer couldn't join. I don't understand the NAACP because I got treated bad by other races during high school year after year for being diffrent and it happens as an adult and it is like these people that can have access to it had never heard of and don't understand the NAACP like they only think it is there to bail them out of situations. I have had the pleasure of meeting nicer people out there after high school and that has made me feel better.

You know what, we all bleed red. I am so tired of people trying to use there skin color to get them something. If you want it, work hard for it! Then people can't condem you! And yes, I am white, not "Caucasian", or "Anglo American", just plain white...well, actually off white but you get the point...

So..... Tim, just wanted to let you know I adore you... You keep me smiling...

I think you and Dr.House would get along great!

Yes, we all bleed red, however it is a fact that there is racism still going on here in America and it will NEVER change! You can thank White People from the beginning for that. That is just being honest.

Imus is an idiot. He shouldn't get away with calling a group of young educated women (white or black), "Ho's" As a black woman, I see racism all the time. I have been a minority in many situations. As a professional, I notice it on my job and the such. It won't go anywhere.

Yes, I agree Jackson and Sharpton are also idiots. They should be out doing something about the rappers who degrade our people daily, especially our women. But, we wouldn't need a NAACP, if we weren't forced to be slaves and second-class citizens in the first place!

You can complain about the "MISS Black America" or "Soul Train", but come on, put yourself on the other side. Miss America is full of white people, MTV, VH1, The news, everything is already white. If I am a young girl who watches Miss America and I always only see white people hosting and participating, it is hard to think it is okay or even possible for a black woman to be there. Put yourself on each side at some point. But you will NEVER know what it is like to be something that you aren't. YOu won't ever know what it is like to be black in America, so I understand some of the comments in this blog.

What about "reverse racism" , my husband just graduated from school and we now owe 25,000 dollars in school loans. Where as the Hispanics and African Americans got grants and scholarships due to their skin color and race.. How is that fair to us. We struggle just like everyone else and yet because we are white people are scared to help us for fear of being accused as being racist! I'm tired of all the BLEEP to tell you the truth. It not fair any way you look at it I suppose. In the state of Texas we have become a minority majority state, meaning that "Caucasians" are the minority. Nobody will ever know what it is like to be something we aren't, but if we all had some empathy then the world wouldn't be such a bad place.

You know Amber and Meome, you are both right and have valid points. Until everyone quits trying to find an edge because of their race and every one is treated equally by one another and by the GOVERNMENT, they will continue to keep us divided. I don't care what color you are, everyone deserves the same treatment and the same advantages and programs. You almost wonder if the GOVERNMENT does it on purpose to keep the turmoil brewing.
It would be nice if someday race is just referred to as a contest of speed rather than a color or minority.

I am sorry, but reverse racism does not exist...it is BLEEP to me.

What you claim to be "reverse racism" is a direct consequence of your ancestors. For centuries, blacks, mexicans, hispancis, native americans have all been treated like BLEEP by white people. It is still happening to this day. YOu will never understand what it is like to be classified as inferior to white people. To hear a white person say, "wow, you speak well for a black person.".. Do you know how that feels? Probably not. I mean, how should a black person speak?

White people control money, control the media, control everything in America. Look at magazines, TV, movies. We are even made to feel inferior in the beauty department. We have to fit certain standards to look the part. Smaller nose, straight hair, smaller proportions. It is sad.

Your husband had the opportunity for many scholarships. There are minority, gender, academic ability, interest groups. So, it is a shame to think that blacks and hispanics are getting free education just because of their race. There are other monetary opporutnites to speak of.

Meome, you are severely misinformed and have a left field point of view. Reverse descrimination is very much in play in today's society and it sounds as if you have a huge chip on your shoulder.
Our ancestors have absolutely nothing to do with today's situation. You still believe you are owed the world by white people because our ancestors mistreated your ancestors. YOU ARE WRONG. This is 2007, If you want a position, do what it takes to get it-if you don't get it, it's because you are black-thats a crock of BLEEP. You see yourself being descriminated against because in the back of your mind you think everyone out there is out to screw you.
If you are told stupid remarks as you stated, take into account who is saying it-it sounds like you are associating with the wrong crowd. A narrow mind will always hold you back, not your color !

I totally agree with Meome. But, she/he is just wasting their time. You will never get the majority to understand where you are coming from. NEVER!

Racism is alive and well in America today.

This Imus scumbag should be fired..no ifs, ands, or buts. Fired...period!

A narrow mind will always hold you back, not your color ! REVERSE that statement and apply it to white people.

I agree with alot of things you have written Harley1. Some of these things I have thought to myself. I had a black Government professor last cemester that taught me things I never knew about debate and how opposing sides with problems debate Government issues with each other like Women's and Gay Rights etc. I didn't care for some of the stories he told about himself in class that much, but I liked the fact I learned more about debating topics from the class. We had 3 debates with another class and audience of students watching and participating and it was interesting. Some of the people participating in the debates didn't research the topics and started blowing stuff out of thier mouths during them and they lost a couple of times. It made me think how did they get into college? I don't even care for politics that much.
