So color me unsurprised.  Seriously, it is a color now.  The Reverend Jeremiah who preaches the evils of white America and encourages racial divisions has security provided by the Nation of Islam.  I have been yelling that he sounds like someone out of the Nation of Islam for a while now, and my suspicions of his ties to them has been reinforced.  Again I ask, how is this encouraging to African Americans?  Wouldn't it be more productive to preach FROM THE BIBLE?  Why blame other people?  There is nothing about placing blame on others for your troubles in the Bible.  Seriously people, this guy preaches the evils of rich white folks while his church buys him a $1.6 million dollar home after he quits preaching there.  It is a money thing and a power thing for Reverend Wright and nothing more.  His military service is appreciated but when he spews his divisive venom from the pulpit he undoes the good he has accomplished.

Wright's Voice Could Spell Doom for Obama

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, explaining this morning why he had waited so long before breaking his silence about his incendiary sermons, offered a paraphrase from Proverbs: "It is better to be quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Barack Obama's pastor would have been wise to continue to heed that wisdom.

Should it become necessary in the months from now to identify the moment that doomed Obama's presidential aspirations, attention is likely to focus on the hour between nine and ten this morning at the National Press Club. It was then that Wright, Obama's longtime pastor, reignited a controversy about race from which Obama had only recently recovered - and added lighter fuel.

Speaking before an audience that included Marion Barry, Cornel West, Malik Zulu Shabazz of the New Black Panther Party and Nation of Islam official Jamil Muhammad, Wright praised Louis Farrakhan, defended the view that Zionism is racism, accused the United States of terrorism, repeated his view that the government created the AIDS virus to cause the genocide of racial minorities, stood by other past remarks ("God damn America") and held himself out as a spokesman for the black church in America.

In front of 30 television cameras, Wright's audience cheered him on as the minister mocked the media and, at one point, did a little victory dance on the podium. It seemed as if Wright, jokingly offering himself as Obama's vice president, was actually trying to doom Obama; a member of the head table, American Urban Radio's April Ryan, confirmed that Wright's security was provided by bodyguards from Farrakhan's Nation of Islam.

Wright suggested that Obama was insincere in distancing himself from his pastor. "He didn't distance himself," Wright announced. "He had to distance himself, because he's a politician, from what the media was saying I had said, which was anti-American."

Explaining further, Wright said friends had written to him and said, "We both know that if Senator Obama did not say what he said, he would never get elected." The minister continued: "Politicians say what they say and do what they do based on electability, based on sound bites, based on polls."

Wright also argued, at least four times over the course of the hour, that he was speaking not for himself but for the black church.

"This is not an attack on Jeremiah Wright," the minister said. "It is an attack on the black church." He positioned himself as a mainstream voice of African American religious traditions. "Why am I speaking out now?" he asked. "If you think I'm going to let you talk about my mama and her religious tradition, and my daddy and his religious tradition and my grandma, you got another thing coming."

That significantly complicates Obama's job as he contemplates how to extinguish Wright's latest incendiary device. Now, he needs to do more than express disagreement with his former pastor's view; he needs to refute his former pastor's suggestion that Obama privately agrees with him.

Wright seemed aggrieved that his inflammatory quotations were out of the full "context" of his sermons -- yet he repeated many of the same accusations in the context of a half-hour Q&A session this morning.

His claim that the September 11 attacks mean "America's chickens are coming home to roost"?

Wright defended it: "Jesus said, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' You cannot do terrorism on other people and expect it never to come back on you. Those are biblical principles, not Jeremiah Wright bombastic divisive principles."

His views on Farrakhan and Israel? "Louis said 20 years ago that Zionism, not Judaism, was a gutter religion. He was talking about the same thing United Nations resolutions say, the same thing now that President Carter's being vilified for and Bishop Tutu's being vilified for. And everybody wants to paint me as if I'm anti-Semitic because of what Louis Farrakhan said 20 years ago. He is one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century; that's what I think about him. . . . Louis Farrakhan is not my enemy. He did not put me in chains, he did not put me in slavery, and he didn't make me this color."

He denounced those who "can worship God on Sunday morning, wearing a black clergy robe, and kill others on Sunday evening, wearing a white Klan robe." He praised the communist Sandinista regime of Nicaragua. He renewed his belief that the government created AIDS as a means of genocide against people of color ("I believe our government is capable of doing anything").

And he vigorously renewed demands for an apology for slavery: "Britain has apologized to Africans. But this country's leaders have refused to apologize. So until that apology comes, I'm not going to keep stepping on your foot and asking you, does this hurt, do you forgive me for stepping on your foot, if I'm still stepping on your foot. Understand that? Capisce?"

Capisce, reverend. All too well.

You have never been in chains. You have never been a slave.

I saw some of his comments on CNN. He is rude, combative and EVADES the questions, most of the time. I find him completely off-putting and can't believe he leads (led?) a congregation. If Obama doesn't distance himself, AND FAST, he will lose a lot of support.

Since the Rev Write story first broke, Obama has gotten 44 super delegates, Hilary only 13. It hasn't hurt him as much as some would think/hope. But he still does need to disagree with any outrageous statements Write may/will make.

As much as I depise all of them, John McCain will finally be president. Now that the supreme court has decided that asking for ID to vote is perfectly constitutional, the Democrats don't have a chance. That was a jab at only part of the problem.

If the Republicans had nominated a true conservative they would have a landslide victory over Hillary (everyone's ex-wife) or Obama (big phony). It is sad that we don't really have a choice this go around - it is the same old same old no matter how you vote.

God DID make him black. The more I listen to the unRev. like Wright, the more obvious it becomes, that he has extremely little understanding of the Word of God (not particularly surprising).
He has never been a slave. WE owe him, or any black, any apologizes or reporations! Clinton already traveled the world, saying how bad this country is. Carter is still doing it.
Wright grew up in a free, capitalist country which has enable him to become so wealthy he can buy a million dollars mansion in a "predominately white neighborhood".

What a shame that the Repb. nominated a democrat instead of a good conservative. McC will be the next president unless something outlandish happens. Sadly, he'll win by default, NOT due to huge support.

Thank you for your post. Jesus makes it clear that hate is a sin (He says if you hate you have committed murder in your heart). This man seems to have a deep hatred in his heart for anyone white and this country. He makes you think of what is written in 2Peter 2:1-3.

Remember to pray for our country and those so deceived; like this man and his followers. Pray especially that all choose to follow Christ Jesus (truly).

HelloGoodbye - it is the worst kind of dangerous how he twists the word of God to suit his own causes. It is like when Nancy Pelosi made up some new Bible verses the other day to justify global warming action.

True believers can see through these fools easily when they twist scripture. What scares me is that they claim to love the same God I do while they grow rich by telling lies.

This should serve as a reminder to be sure in your knowledge of scripture so you aren't led astray by evil men.

TexanInfidel: you know your right about the pastor want to be. He is a spawn of Satan. That likes spreading nothing more than lies to confuse ppl to follow his cause. He worships hate. He hopes that it will spread like wildfire. A true christian pastor would not spread the stuff that he does. He has already broke several gods laws. The church order should seperate him from the church now before it is too late. Oh by the way I though that he was retired. i guess he came out since was more money to steal from pathetic fools that wish to listen to him and his hot air lies.

I wonder if by chance that he is related to the stone age wrong brothers that back upon the dio-breath-soars era. They may have had him in a case of ice with a case that had some writing on it that state do not break in case of emergency hate mongers needed

For those of you too lazy to look up Scotty's verses:

A Brother Who Sins Against You

15"If your brother sins against you,[b] go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. 16But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.'[c] 17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
18"I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be[d]bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.

19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

I find it amusing that it is just above the parable of the unmerciful servant.

Thank YOU for pointing it out, Scotty. I don't want anyone to think we're witholding information as the stuff in Rev Wright's sermons places little emphasis on actual Bible verses and his members might not have actually ever read a Bible.

I feel like I've been robbed of the social-gospel all my life - might have made me realize why my social-gospelling friends talked the way they do about their hardships...

TexanInfidel, the following verses are applicable to Wright as well, as well as his parishoners.

Gal. 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

It is amazing that someone can ignore SO many verses with specific directions on how to behave.

There is nothing red, yellow, black, or white about twisting or flat-out making up scripture. Evil knows no racial or socio-economic boundaries.
