Catherine - a little girl in our neighborhood - told me that she wanted to be President one day.

Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there with us - and I asked Catherine - "If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?"

Catherine replied - I would give houses to all the homeless people."

"Wow - what a worthy goal you have there Catherine." I told her (while both parents beamed), "But, you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and clean up all the dog poop in the back yard and I will pay you $5 dollars . Then we can go over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $5 dollars to save toward a new house."

Catherine (who was about 8) thought that over for a second, and then replied, "why doesn't the homeless guy come over and clean up the dog poop himself, and you can pay him the $5 dollars?"

Welcome to the Republican Party Catherine..... *

Of course nobody thought it was odd that a Republican would offer someone $5 to clean up a yard full of dog poop.

heh

Good story.

It was the Democratic parents that wanted their child to do slave labor!

In all fairness - who's to say that wasn't one of her chores anyway! Some people allow their children to earn money for things that are part of their chores anyway. I am not at all opposed to earning allowance.

We dont call it "slave labor" any more.

Now-a-days we call it "day labor".
...and we pay people we pretend to not want here.

If this story was realistic, the kid would never get the job anyway. It would either be handled under the table with a local Hispanic "handy man" or outsourced to India.

She might pitch a fit about not having the five bucks but if they actually did offer her the job, she wouldnt really do it.

Instead, she would make a big stink about what a terrible thing it is that kids like her dont have jobs and whine just long enough for her parent to cave in and pay her $20 an hour to walk the dog or something she would do anyway. Then she would use her money to buy affordable toys that were made in Mexico.

Cy - I agree completely except the toys were made in China and she would become mildly retarded from chewing on the lead-based paint.

The best kids I know accept a reasonable allowance earned through doing chores that contribute to the household. The worst ones I know are paid craptons of money to do a chore half-BLEEP then complain until their parents end up doing the chores over again themselves.

That's been around for awhile... good story and makes the point.
Democrats want the government to TAKE money for those who have it and give it out 'to the needy' as they see fit. But ask them to go up and down the street collect money from the neighbors for HEALTH INSURANCE, social security, welfare, & their kids college... and see how far they'd get!! But they sure as heck dont' mind the government doing it FOR them.

Republicans believe in self reliance & work.

Dems believe in government handouts. Socialist.

Republicans (and we will be general here) dont believe in self reliance and work... they believe in unrestricted capitalism. This can be translated to "Survial of the fittest". This is basically a Darwinian philosophy masked as something else because of the inclusion of the word "conservative".

Dems (as you put it) do not believe in hand outs. Dems believe in accountability, responsibility and that in America we all should have the opportunity for prosperity. These are those hard working people you were talking about earlier... ya know... the poor saps that got swindled into the menial labor jobs and blue collar stuff that The republicans farmed out so they could make money off them and then sell them back the goods they produced at a profit.

Dont get me wrong, Republicans are fine with people helping each other and getting people back on their feet... just as long as they dont have to pay for it or be accountable for how those people got that way in the first place.

By the way, those people going up and down the streets asking for money? Yeah I've done that. Business owners dont though because they cant write off the six mile walk.

The Dems used to be the party of the "working man" - I probably would have been a Democrat were I born 30 years earlier. Now they are the party of special interests government control - the people Obama considers "rich" by tax standards are couples making $80k/year. That's not exactly rich - that's people trying to live the American Dream - a house, 2.3 kids, a dog, retire at 65.

Sadly the Republican party has gone back to its blue-blood country club days - far from the conservative style of 1980-88 but still better than Obama's socialist dreams.

No, not really. The Dems SAID they were for the 'working man', but if you recall, that is what the communist party also said. It is for government power, period. Or it has become that. This isn't the party of JFK.
Ditto's on the Rs, Tex.... arrogance has lead them down the garden path to socialism.

It is all about power for both of them.

Texan, you’re almost right. The Demo Rats have been taken over by the left wing nuts in this country, the new socialist party. We pretty much know who these people are as you can read the nut case that is in here. These are the tree-huggers, owl kissers, no oil drilling idiots who believe that you are better off paying 8 dollars a gallon for gas and keeping you’re a/c at 80. After all Americans are to spoiled and other countries look down on use because we have it too good here.
So instead of us living in a free country where you can become rich without feeling guilty and owning things that you have earned with you’re hard work. They, the left want you to feel bad. They want you to feel ashamed because you work hard and have things that others who sit on their BLEEP don’t have. They think you and your business makes too much money and think it’s ok for the government to take it away from you and give it to other who do nothing to deserve it.
They BLEEP because you own a company and can give others job, but they are the first to BLEEP when you can’t afford to give other’s jobs because the government left wing have taxed you and you’re company under the table.
They whine and cry all the way to the court house when people elect a president that is not one of their own. They call you racist because you don’t want to vote for a thieving lying racist black man who wants to take your money away from you and force you into a proven failed healthcare system.
I could go on for days about these nightcrawlers but I think you get the point.

acoolone - I am totally on board with what you've said. Both parties have gone left - McCain is just a slooooower descent.

By the way - has anyone read Limbaugh's interview with Mark Steyn? I do believe that Mark Steyn is now my favorite immigrant EVAH.
