UMC: Creating the Crisis

In today's headlines we see the United Methodist Church has decided that it is God's will that they harbor illegal immigrants. Fine, I suppose this means that those of the poor who were born in places like Appalachia, southern Mississippi or inner city Los Angeles are now sufficiently cared for and supplied with everything they need. Do we not have enough of our own citizens who are struggling? Do we really need to create a false "humanitarian crisis" for the media? It is one thing to support ministries in other lands who need assistance, it is quite another to claim some sort of moral superiority for creating a support system for the poor of other nations who come here and CREATE THE CRISIS. How about Mexico, Costa Rico, Guatemala and other nations begin taking care of their own poor and we allow our churches here to take care of ours? Until men, women and children born and raised here legally are served churches such as this are doing nothing more that creating what is legally known as an attractive nuisance by offering services. This is why although I believe in everything to do with the Christian faith, I am increasingly appalled at the militant leftist arm of most mainstream religions these days.

One of the reasons why I am not a member of mainstream religion, even as I come to terms with my Catholic upbringing. Social Justice used to mean crusading for those who were poor in spirit and money. Now, it is crusading for those who have committed crimes...

Welcome to the Disorganized Brethren of Lapsed Catholics. I am one, too. I can't go back there when the Pope is listing being wealthy and polluting as additional "Deadly Sins." Talk about editing after the fact.

The 'illegals' continue to get only pity from the press and no one cares about the criminality. What a mess. The politicians have jumped on the same bandwagon....

I am a teacher, a mother and wife and I like to think I am a pretty good citizen. I read ALOT. I also write a good deal on various blogs. I appreciate a chance to respond to what we see in the news. I think that by posting our opinions we can probably find that everyone is more alike than we are willing to admit. Face it, people just like to argue. I would also like to say how much I appreciate having a forum for my views.
