I am posting a link to Orange Punch about the relative academic acclaim of the Global Warming apologists and the Global Warming deniers (that is what they call themselves). Personally, despite the claim of some folks who don't bother to read all the words I write, I do think that everyone should take steps to avoid waste. That includes water, air, energy, food, clothing and such. Yet I can walk outside on trash day and see perfectly good things that could be donated for others to use, sitting on the curb in front of other folks' houses. I see water from backwashing swimming pools running down the street for hours along with water from sprinkler systems that run every day-even when it rains. I see folks sitting with engines running waiting for kids at school. So I am not against true conservation, what I am against is this phony self-righteous type of environmentalism that gives a free pass to some of the most toxic industries in some of the most polluted nations in the world at the expense of American and European taxpayers. Why should we subsidize bad science? And why are the folks who push this as the reason for carbon offsets, economically debilitating accords and just plain silly actions such as corn based ethanol (which incidentally, Congress is beginning to doubt...)are so darned defensive when someone bothers to question scientific findings. In science, it isn't normal for 100% of any outcome to be predicted, yet that is what some of the politicians and pundits would prefer. Having 100% of scientists agree to any measure is dubious and probably rigged. So after having introduced you to the earlier story about how many studies were aimed at creating false support for existing norms as accepted by "conventional wisdom", here's a story about the relative importance of the acceptors vs. deniers.

And now Goolash Gore is blaming the cyclone that hit Myanmar on global warming !

That idiot surely can't believe all the BLEEP that comes out of his mouth !

Guess when he gets in HELL, he'll blame the over heating on the poor people from Asia that grew too much rice.

TTB....first let me say that more than a few of your blogs have inspired me and made me angry at the same time.....(pat yourself on the back for that one because very few people on these boards have that ability).....

Not angry at you....lets get that straight....just the situations that you have brought to light at times have made my blood boil......

I do believe that we are hurting ourselves by not recycling and not practicing conservation....not so much that we are destroying the planet...or mabye we are....who knows?.....

but where we are headed right now....can't be all that good for the environment....how can it be?....

I also believe that making people feel like fools for speaking out and trying to do something about it, hurts the cause even more....if someone wants to make an attempt to help "save the planet"....more power to them.....they're doing a hell of a lot more than most folks are.....

Scare tactics are not the way to go though....there are scientists on both sides who can't agree with each other.....

but I think we can all agree that our present society is doing more harm than good.....

Ted is right, doing nothing is not the solution !

However, if I only use my left hand to wipe, my right doesn't stink

The ones that hollar the most, are the ones that do the least !

Ted, nice way of putting it. Still, as Furbie points out, the Archbishop of Warmingology is a hypocrite for daily burning through carbon faster than the average NASCAR race.

For myself, I prefer keeping my costs down. I drive a sensible vehicle that doesn't burn through a gallon of gas just going two blocks. On most days, I plan my route to conserve gas. I keep my tires inflated to their rated pressure. I don't do it to save the planet, I do it to save money, an issue Al Gore apparently feels is beneath his status.

I won't speak for TTB, but this is the crux of my beef with the global warming folks. Ever hear of something called Eugenics? It was a widely accepted "scientific" theory in the early 20th Century. It eventually led to the extermination of 6 Million Jews in German concentration camps.

"Science" has been manipulated before, and it will be again. Every day a new scientific study comes out and tells us something. Most studies are dead-ends and incapable of being proven or disproven. Occasionally, scientists strike gold - Polio, Penecillin, and Pox seem to come to mind. But CO2 causing weather problems? Highly doubtful, given our inability to unlock the key to long-term weather patterns.

I am a teacher, a mother and wife and I like to think I am a pretty good citizen. I read ALOT. I also write a good deal on various blogs. I appreciate a chance to respond to what we see in the news. I think that by posting our opinions we can probably find that everyone is more alike than we are willing to admit. Face it, people just like to argue. I would also like to say how much I appreciate having a forum for my views.
