Last night my brother's house was broken into. 3 black males kicked in the front door with guns in hand around 1:15 am. My brother tried to fight back because his kids were in his room that they went into. They all hit him with the guns and finally my brother let them just take what they wanted so they could leave. This all happened in a matter of minutes and while his home alarm is going off! My brother let the people over the intercom (alarm system) that he was robbed.  Of course any one with information we would love to know about but I am not writing this just for info on them. I'm writing this because there is a major problem in Dallas.

In and around the Burton and Masters area in Pleasant Grove there has been several homes broken into. 6 that I have heard of in the last month. Some have been during the day and some at night. My brother's home is the first one that I know of that was a home invasion. But I just don't understand why there has not been an increase of patrol officers in the area! I have seen them patrol during the day and some routine traffic stops but what about at night too!?

Like I said my brother has an alarm system (ADT) and they seemed to do their job by calling authorities. MY brother called my house after that. I rushed there as soon as I could. I would say about 5 minutes later. And to my surprise I see no Cops! So i think that they are right behind. I was wrong! The ambulance got there soon after but no Cops. They get done checking him out and finally the Cops arrive about 20 to 30 minutes after everything has happened.

I in no way see how this is acceptable! What is the point of having an alarm system if no one is going to show up for 20 minutes? The Dallas PD response time is SAD! This is just one horror story and I'm sure there are many like this out there. This is major issue that needs to be addressed by the city of Dallas.

Mr. Mayor, I have lost my trust in this city's PD. What will you do to gain it back? Show me, don't just talk about it.

Did the police say what took them so dang long? That is unacceptable. That area of town has gotten very bad the past few years. I hope your brother and his kids are alright

20 minutes response time for an armed robbery in progress demands an explanation...and I'd push until I got one. Totally unacceptable and worthy of SERIOUS inquiry.

There was no explanation as to what took so long. We didn't want to get in an argument with them because we knew we would get the same generic answers and my brother just needed to get to the hospital because he was his several times with the guns. He needed 7 stitches, but the kids were not touched. The Cops stayed maybe 10 minutes to write up a report and that was it.

A ten minute investigation of an armed robbery with injuries?

That's even more reason to press for a valid explanation.

There's something terribly out of whack there....

The cops wanted to make sure the guys with the guns were long gone before showing up !

There is something really wrong with this system. What is going on that is more important that they can't respond to a robbery in progress?!
If any one know the right way to go about this to find out how we can ask for more help in the neighborhood and get some answers about the long response time, please let me know.

I am sorry to hear that this happened. His life and his family's life will not be the same. Although my case was nothing in comparision, I caught burglars in the act of taking my stuff and scared them off, and I was actually afraid to go home alone again. I stood outside waiting about 20 minutes for the police to arrive as I had been told to retreat if you walk in on a burglary. I hadn't shot a gun in a while, so I went to a brush-up shooting class and practiced so I would feel comfortable with a gun again. Then, I did what any self-respecting Southern woman should have already done.....I went and got my Concealed Handgun License so I could legally carry a gun with me all of the time. Thanks to some really smart Texas legislators, the Castle Doctrine passed last year allows you to lawfully carry a gun from your home, to your vehicle, to your place of business, and back. You have the legal right to protect yourself in your home, in your car, and your place of business....unless there is a sign posted that says you can't. I answer the door with a gun since people started ringing doorbells and shooting people last Christmas. My gun is beside me most of the time at home and I am prepared to let whoever enters without an invitation be carried out in a body bag. Hate to sound brutal, but they don't come into your home uninvited to talk about the weather. My husband bought me a small "safe" that can be bolted to the wall behind the night stand to store it if we ever have children in the house. It has a code and you can even buy one that uses your fingerprints to open it

That might make you or anyone with children feel even more secure with kids around.
