The Lab piggies story so far ….
On Saturday March 15, 2008 Texas Rustlers finally got to rescue the, what was now, 32 lab piggies from a local university. We had been contacted in December regarding 29 that the university was finished with and required re-homing, if they could not be re-homed the alternative was the CO2 chamber.
All the piggies, with the exception of 4, had been used in behavioral testing; the 1 was a mosquito feeder and the other 3 were accidentally bred after the program had finished and not used for testing purposes
Thanks to Carla we were able to able to load all the piggies into 2 cars and get them to the rescue around 5.00p.m.; it then took us nearly another 4 hours to set them all up. The caging we currently have them in is far from ideal but better than what they had before, they do not eat veggies, they are reluctantly trying hay and they are absolutely terrified – I have never met such scared piggies in all my life
We want to thank those who have already helped or offered to help, as you can imagine these poor piggies are going to be with us a while, they need intensive care in the form of love and gentle handling, some have medical issues, 1 with an inner ear infection, 2 with hair loss and 1 with possible heart issues – oh and did I mention that they are all pink eyed whites!
If you would like to see the initial pictures of them please visit www.imageevent.com/texasrustlers/labpiggies
If you would like to help donations can be made via paypal on our website www.theguineapigrescue.com or mailed to the address on the contact page – please be sure to mention that the donation is for the Lab Piggies.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting and have adopted or fostered from us before please contact us at theguineapigrescue@yahoo.com
If you are interested in fostering or adopting and have not adopted or fostered from us before please complete either the foster or the adoption contract located on our website, again please specify that your interest is in the Lab Piggies
If you would like to volunteer at the rescue, we require help cleaning cages, water bottles, food dishes, cutting nails etc every Saturday between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm, if interested please e-mail volunteering@theguineapigrescue.com
