Sarah Palin's speech had delegates hanging on the edge of their seats and the Xcel Center electrified, but will it be enough to put the McCain-Palin ticket over the top?

I think her speech was terrific -- she was poised, smooth, strong, and knowledgable. She achieved something that women in politics often can't: she challenged her opponent without seeming bitchy.

Palin may have tapped an overlooked voter group: parents of special-needs children. There are 400,000 people with Down syndrome in America according to the National Down Syndrome Society, and up to 1.5 million Americans affected by autism. There are countless other children with genetic disorders who need special attention. Having an advocate in the White House could sway exhausted parents who may have been on the fence politically.

She did what she needed to do: introduce herself and her family to the voters. And I loved the hockey mom joke.

I also liked Huckabee's speech, though it had more pointed barbs at the Dems. But I liked the Lava soap story. Huckabee is a great speaker.

Palin's speech has our office abuzz this morning - liberals and conservative working moms are absolutely smitten with this woman. She's brilliant, classy, human... The attacks on her daughter, husband, and maternal competency have done nothing but infuriate working mothers and bring solidarity behind Palin. Her speech was well received to say the absolute least.

I like your take on it - I agree with the difficult-to-attack-without-seeming-bitchy part. She hit it out of the park!

Thanks, TI. I think that's a difficult role for women in business or any position of authority. There's a fine line between assertion and bossiness, strength and bitchiness, aloofness and seeming cold. Men are never called those adjectives.

Of course no one would call a he half the things they call a her. And were she a man no one would question his ability to lead with children at home. All working women (moms or not) have had to fight the same attacks she is facing now - constantly having to justify being in positions of power.

I wish I could have been there! I'm all antsie in my pantsies!

Alicek --

You deserve a raise for this one.

Hopefully someone will forward this to CNN to attempt to show them what journalism is all about.

Sidenote: If you have any of those GOP chocolate bars left will you email me one. PDF format would be ideal.

TI, I agree with you there. There are a bunch of Dems in my office and many of them stated today that if McCain wasn't on the ticket that they would vote for Palin alone. Now, they are just weighing whether or not they want Obama/Biden or Palin\McCain. And that's the way it is too. They really don't see McCain as the front runner on this thing.

Hi Alice,
One of my favorite parts of last night's coverage of the RNC - the shot of Sarah Palin's yuongest daughter, Piper, licking her hand - and slicking down her baby brother's hair!! SOSOSOS cute!!!

AK: I also liked Huckabee's effort. He's kind of a down-home guy with fairly wide appeal.

And good point on Palin's appeal to an overlooked group. Hillary and Obama both touched on those families last week, but Palin obviously has the much stronger connection there because she lives it every day.

Hello Alice and Heather,

Heather I agree, that was a really cute moment.

I thought the entire evening was just electric! The Republicans definetely had a triple play! Sarah was incredible. I was already going to vote McCain, but more for the reason that no way do I want to see Obama has our President. Now, I can't wait to wait the McCain/Palin ticket!

Heard an interesting proposition this morning on talk radio; 2012 Hilary vs Sarah. You want to talk about history being made :)

Her speech was awesome! Know it or not...we all were watching the next Vice President!
Hillary versus Palin? No contest...Palin would win hands down!

I agree CBW, but my point was we've all agreed that electing a man of color (jury out on if he's African or Arabic) as a presidental candidate and now a woman as a VP candidate shows how far we've come.

If we did have a Hilary vs Sarah match-off that would also be a first.

She's a breath of fresh air for the stuffed shirts in D.C. She has energized the conservative base of the R party. I not only loved what she said, but how she said it.. not shrill, not cold, not harsh, but direct, firm, smitten with humor & grace. (VERY un-Hillary like.) But most importantly, she was right; she spoke to the "common" Americans, because she IS one.

I agree - she is common.

I agree she is a breath of fresh air
I had a strong feeling that Mc Cain would come from behind with someone interesting.
You can now look for Obama to bring on Hillary stronger than ever Palin has just hit an artery
in the heart of his camp. Palin has made history, will be history, and will remain history. She will move the White House to new levels. Palin is like a c.p.r shock to Americas heart it may have slowed down but never stopped beating. So America lets have a Mc-Pal our way
it's about time. VOTE MC-PAL

She rocked the house. - Shame SHE isn't the Presidential candidate!

Both sides talk a bunch of BS, neither party is REALLY for the ppl, both have their own agendas at the end of the day. - but Sarah fans the embers of hope for conservatives.

Just when you think the Republicans have gone to the dogs, Sarah Palin comes along!!

AliceK,

I guess you can say you've been in the Tank for McCain, even if you were guided there with Flex-cuffs on.
