I just spoke to my brother, a long haul truck driver, that lives in MO. He said he had heard on the news that there was investigation going on, looking into insider trader, and speculators, dealing with OIL, and price gouging.
He said that the investigation had started in Feb., and was made public yesterday. Since the investigation was made public, that the oil prices have started dropping.  Is this true?

Not exactly. That is why you've heard nothing about it being true. The real reason gas is so high is a simple supply and demand issue. We are importing almost all of our oil. In places like Afghanistan and Egypt I believe I read that gas is $.80something a gallon.

Check out the petition at www.americansolutions.com and sign the petition to let them drill here in America.

So far there are 220,000+ signatures to send congress a message - HANDS OFF BUDDY!

Here is a good ( and fair) link as to the high price of gas. It includes non-drilling and speculation.

I haven't heard about that and the only thing I've see gas prices to it go up and up and up on a daily basis.

I haven't heard about that and the only thing I've see gas prices do is go up and up and up on a daily basis.

I heard that as well, but what I heard is that it wasn't the oil companies or the retail stores, it was the people speculating on oil futures. Markets can be manipulated by misdirection and panic. Lots of folks are gambling (literally) that oil will go up and that starts a bidding war on oil futures. If you think about it, this is very similar to what was done with the mortgage industry where people got greedy and bought houses not just to live in, but to flip for a higher price just two or three months down the road. California, Florida, NC-all those popular states have seen this. And when mortgage brokers played fast and loose funding loans without even requiring proof of income-well that's like giving a total stranger $100 and expecting them to pay you back. Now instead, the speculators are flipping oil prices. And frankly, it's looks suspicious to me. And I am betting there are outside sources (Iran, Russia and China)will to commit money to the purpose of wrecking our economy to benefit theirs. Not allowing domestic drilling plays into that as well. Do you think they would do that in any of those countries just because some environmentalist said so?

Since it was a CNN link I knew there would be blame for Bush in there. I am surprised that the writer was able to restrain himself from accusing Bush of causing Katrina, especially since we all know he did (wink, wink).

Otherwise, there was some factual information in there. China was not mentioned, yet they alone are responsible for a surge due to their increased demand as well.

Funny that no mention was made of Democrats who have stopped ALL methods of exploration/drilling in this country. How's that work?

Don't ask CNN.

China wasn't listed by name, but it did say something about an increase in global consumption.

It did indeed, Colby. But people seem to tiptoe around China anymore. I don't suppose it is because we are in debt up to our ears, is it?

Maybe we should pay off China with lead - they should be low, with all they've sent us !

Take the government out of oil, and the price would fall, faster than congress's ratings.

The two increases in consumption were in India and China - two countries who can't spend enough to counter their GDP...

India and China are subsidizing fuel costs so that gas will be affordable. And their gas doesn't require all the additives that are part of the formulas we are required to have here.

I wonder how much they tax the people per liter or gallon?
