If you recently bought a 1974 Firebird as an untitled vehicle from a man who lives in North Mesquite, you have bought a vehicle that was taken from me and is essentially STOLEN!  (Pictures of the car can be seen in my profile as soon as they are approved)  I let a man test drive this car and it was never returned to me.  I still have the clear title to this car in my possession, and have been going every legal route I know how to have it returned to me, including sending Certified Civil Demand letters to this man.  The last certified letter that I sent was returned to me, and I was making arrangements to have the car repossessed, but the car disppeared from this man's residence.  I sent a spotter to his home, posing as a potential buyer, they were told that the car had already been sold.
If you see this car on the streets, it is tagged and inspected ILLEGALLY--I am the only one who can buy tags for this car, as I am the title holder.  There is not really anything the police can do to help me because I trusted this man on his word and let him test drive the car.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of this vehicle, or who has possession of it, it would be of great help to me.
You really can't miss this car if you were to see it--it's orange, and has high performance parts under the hood and is very loud and very fast.  If you've seen it, or you think you may have it, please respond and arrangements will be made to compare VIN#s.

Thanks

That really sucks. Have the police checked out the chop shops in the area?

If your car stands out that much they may just be stripping it for parts.

If the man took the car out for a test drive and didn't return it, that is auto theft.
So what is missing in this story? Did you know this person? Loan it to him? What gives?

Don't understand this situation. If you were a car dealer in the city of Mesquite and someone "test drove" a vehicle and didn't return it --- the cops would be on every corner trying to catch the thief. As only a citizen you haven't the same process? Something just doesn't sound right. When a person removes another person's property without proper monitary compensation -- that is theft.

Yes, I know, and that's what I don't understand either. When I called the police dept., the officer I spoke to on the phone told me to write the Civil Demand letter, and then if it wasn't returned in the 10 days, I could report it as stolen. On the 10th day, I went to the police station personally, and was told that it was a "civil matter" and that it couldn't be reported stolen, but that instead I would have to take him to court. One problem with that--I'm the full-time caregiver for my adult son, who is mentally disabled, and I don't have the money to do that. So I guess I'm just supposed to get screwed out of a car??

this is just another example of the horse hockey the good ol folks in mesquite dish out, my wife was put in the mesquite tx jail because my 2 daughters were late for school enough times to amount to like 5 absentees, she was taking them to school but as it turned out they were spending to much time in front of the girls room mirrors and becoming minutes late for there 1st class to many times. I go out of my way to warn people not to live in mesquite, they seem not to realize every one there( not just businness,s ) are paying lots of taxes to the city of mesquite, mesquite may be pro business but they are not pro people...

I feel bad for you, but really, why did you just hand the car to the guy to test drive? Why didn't you ride along with him? Car dealers make sure they ride with you. Also, car dealers always make sure the person has a valid license & insurance.

this is just another example of the horse BLEEP mesquite dishes out, I go out of my way to warn people not to even consider living in mesquite, my wife served time in the mesquite jail because my 2 daughters were late for school to many times which turned into like 5 absentees, mesquite doesn't consider the hardship they put on people they think they think they know it all, mesquite is pro business not pro people...

If he had done that to me, it wouldn't be the police he had to avoid. Some buddies would have taken care of him. I don't understand why it cannot be called car theft. The laws on that suck. Make your own laws and have someone take care of him.

I have taken a vehicle for a test drive on two separate occasions years apart. Both times the person selling the vehile did not ask to see my license and let me take the vehicle by myself. Of course I had left my vehicle there when I was driving theirs but still.

I ended up not purchasing either of the vehicles. On the first one I drove I went to roll down the window and the handle came off in my hand. This was around 15 years ago and it was really funny.

I hope you get your car back. It sounds like your trust was returned with disrespect and theft.

Thanks for all the well-wishes--I'm trying to get it back legally as I said, so I don't have anybody trying to get me in trouble. The nieghborhood here isn't as nice as it used to be, I'm a single Mom for now, taking care of a house and four grown people by myself, and I'm not a big person--so I have to be cautious making demands on someone I don't know, and being a girl--I don't have "big buddies" to come to my rescue! A lot of people depend on me, so I have to look out for my safety also.

I understand, dreams. I find it sad that if you went and demanded your car back from the thief (and thief he is) you'd probably be arrested.

In a world gone crazy I can only imagine what's next.
