Market full of oil, price trend "fake": Ahmadinejad

Bush Holding Hands With Prince Abdullah

By Hashem KalentariTue Jun 17, 2:59 AM ET

The market is full of oil and the rising price trend is "fake and imposed," Iran's president said on Tuesday, partly blaming a weak U.S. dollar which he said was being pushed lower on purpose.

"At a time when the growth of consumption is lower than the growth of production and the market is full of oil, prices are rising and this trend is completely fake and imposed," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a televised speech.

"It is very clear that visible and invisible hands are controlling prices in a fake way with political and economic aims," he said when opening a meeting of the OPEC Fund for International Development in the central Iranian city of Isfahan.

Iran, the world's fourth-largest oil exporter, has repeatedly said the market is well-supplied with crude and blames rising prices on speculation, a weak U.S. currency and geopolitical factors.

"As you know the decrease in the dollar's value and the increase in energy prices are two sides of the same coin which are being introduced as factors behind the recent instability," Ahmadinejad said.

Oil steadied on Tuesday after touching a record near $140 the previous day, with traders caught between a weaker dollar and expectations that top exporter Saudi Arabia will ramp up output to its highest rate in decades.

Iran has often said it sees no need for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to boost output.

"EVER-INCREASING DECREASE"

Ahmadinejad reiterated his view that oil should be sold in a basket of currencies rather than U.S. dollars, an idea which has failed to win over other OPEC members, except Venezuela.

"The ever-increasing decrease in the dollar's value is one of the world's major problems," he said.

"A combination of the world's valid currencies should become a basis for oil transactions or (OPEC) member countries should determine a new currency for oil transactions," he said.

Iran, embroiled in a standoff with the West over its nuclear program, has for more than two years been increasing its sales of oil for currencies other than the dollar, saying the weak U.S. currency is eroding its purchasing power.

Ahmadinejad, who in the past has called the dollar a "worthless piece of paper," suggested "some big powers" were driving it lower on purpose:

"The planners for some big powers are acting to decrease the dollar's value," he said. "For years they imposed inflation and their own economic problems to other nations by injecting the dollar without any support to the global economy."

Foes since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution, Tehran and Washington are also at odds over Tehran's disputed nuclear activities as well as over policy in Iraq. Iran says its atomic work is peaceful.

I guess Casey also believes Ahmadinejad when he says that Iran’s nuclear desires are for peaceful purposes & not weapons (and that Israel should be destroyed) and his wild assertion that we tried to assassinate him earlier this year when he visited Iraq…

Is there a single enemy of America that the leftist “blame America first” crowd doesn’t absolutely love?

I am not endorsing Ahmadinejad or his views. What I am saying is consider what he`s saying, examine it for truth, and then decide if the information is worthy or BS.

Let`s apply that statement to Bush.
Nothing that comes out of that pie hole he calls a mouth is true. He is worse than all the other "wanna-be dictators" over here. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth!

"Btw casey, the bottom picture is a little dated isn't it? It says out in nov 2004,"

That picture was true then, and it`s true now.

evidently it wasn't true then casey, because Bush WAS elected! LOL

and no, i don't think Bush is running around telling people that Aminijihad has a "hit" out on him! Bush is not saying to people that the holocaust never happened or that we don't have homosexuals in our country.

okay, yes, i'm sure Bush has lied to alot of people, including us. but, THIS? come on now.......think casey!

I really enjoy your selective memory when it comes to history, especially when it doesn’t suit your warped views or irrational hatred of our twice democratically elected leader.

To enlighten you, the 2004 election in which the American people spoke loudly to re-elect Bush and send those two hair jockeys back to the Senate, was quite decisive and without dispute.

The 2000 election was disputed for awhile, until the Supreme Court stepped in and stopped the legal nonsense….since then, every vote from Florida was counted numerous times by several different groups with a variety of political views, and George Bush won every time. It didn’t matter who was counting the votes nor how often, Al Gore never won Florida, nor the Presidency…. George W. Bush did, and this country not to mention the entire World is better off for it.

"Al Gore never won Florida, nor the Presidency…. George W. Bush did, and this country not to mention the entire World is better off for it."

That all depends on who is stating this. The family who has lost loved ones to an un-necessary and ill-conceived war, or the "Fat Cats" who are profiting at our` expense from the same. Those who have lost everything they have worked a lifetime for, or those who are profiting from our` economy being in shambles. I see things as they really are, not through rose-colored glasses.

Obviously you choose not to see the millions of men, women & children that President George W. Bush has freed from oppressive regimes in two different countries, or the 7 years of safety that we have enjoyed here in America since the tragic attacks of 9/11….

Those undeniable facts don’t really support all your asinine “Bush is evil” theories, but they do support my assertion that America & the rest of the World are much better off because George W. Bush was twice elected to serve as our President.

George W Bush has NOT freed anybody from anything. A family is still subject to be awakened in the middle of the night and endure everything from torture to death.
Why is it that you don`t understand that the terrorists decide where, when, and how......NOT GEORGE BUSH !
The whole world is in a turmoil because of his` bungling.

So what you’re telling us is, that terrorists who hate us, who train with arms and pray for our destruction have just “decided” not to attack us here at home since 9/11? I suggest you seek the aid of a good shrink to work on your bad case of “Bush derangement syndrome”!

I’ve heard other “hate America” types also claiming that our success in Iraq was not due to our troops’ skill or our Generals’ brilliance, but on Iran & other enemies there simply “backing off” – is it that hard to acknowledge that your country or the brave young men & women who defend it with their lives have done something right, or is everything we do wrong just because you hate the effective President that the American people were smart enough to elect twice?

Whether you choose to admit it or not, President George W. Bush did free millions of people in both Afghanistan & Iraq, creating historic rights & opportunities for women & children that they never would’ve imagined under the oppressive regimes that we deposed, and replaced with two functioning democracies deep in the heart of the Middle East. If they both succeed & flourish, how exactly is that bad for America & our security?

How long did it take to plan and execute 9/11 ? George Bush or no human being can say " Well that`s the end of that !" ( Kind of like,"Mission Accomplished"). Millions of people in Aghanistan and Iraq STILL live in fear. If a western type government can succeed in the Middle-East is something yet to be proven. "Success in Iraq" is highly debatable. The Iraqis have not "backed off" and will not do so until the "Infidels" are no longer in their`country. - Sorry

casey, not ALL the Iraqi's want the "infidels" out.............just one of the factions do.

which, coincidentally (or not) is led by a mullah who is now living in Iran. He's in bed with that nutjob aminijihad (your new buddy btw). funny how this mullah wants to run Iraq HIS way, but yet he doesn't even bother to LIVE in Iraq. he intends to turn Iraq BACK into the dictatorship it once was, with HIM at the helm.

the OTHER faction (which is the one that actually CARES about freedom & democracy) is doing ALL the work for the democracy. yes, they want things to be done differently than what OUR proposals say, but that is normal & will be negotiated in a manner that will suit the Iraqi's & their new found freedom.

seems to me that 3 million (that's ALOT of people) Iraqi's who were free to sign that petition are probably pretty darned glad we showed up.

come now casey, reality is is that things are going very well over there & will continue to do so until they are stable & strong enough to be on their own. and then we will have an alliance with them that eventually will work to our favor...........& theirs.

How many people signed the petition without being pressured ?
Things are not going that well over there. What happens when "Big Brother" leaves ?

I am 70 yrs. old and I have never seen our country in such dire straits as it is today. I was born in W.Va., Grew up in Pa. with Bobby Vinton, and ended up in Oh. Back then, when you graduated from high school in W.Va.,Pa.,or Ky., you received a diploma and a road map to Ohio. I grew up in the 50`s and 60`s, so I know what really good times in our` country were. GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN !
