Senator Obama, if he had his way, would outlaw the carrying of a concealed weapon by anyone, anywhere, in the United States (by Federal Law). I am only guessing, but I would think there would be exceptions for rich donors and movie stars and dare I say, politicians.

I have heard Obama and his people say, along with every other advocate of banning concealed carry rights, that there will be more murders, more random gunfire, and more traffic hassles that turn into shootouts.

He has in fact said that it is like a return to the "wild west".

He seems never to actually look at the statistics when spouting his crud. If he did, he would quickly see that there is extraordinarily lower crime by anyone with a license to carry a concealed weapon, in Texas, across the board.

That means less crime of any kind at all. I would think that that makes the license holder a very good citizen that takes the responsibility of handgun ownership as seriously as it should be taken.

If you want the real numbers for Texas, take a look at the Texas DPS website and you will find the reality.

Out of 61,539 people that were convicted of a crime in Texas in 2006 (the last year they have data for)  140 of those people were concealed carry permit holders. That is .2275% of crime.

A vote for Obama takes away the ability, and the natural right, of law abiding citizens to defend themselves, their families, and their homes.

Think hard before giving up your rights. In fact this right is not one given by the constitution.  The constitution simply affirms that it is a natural, or god-given, right to bear arms and to defend oneself - one that cannot be taken away.

I have thought hard about this, but I think we need to move past the 2 party system. I would encourage everyone to at least look at Bob Barr. While the Libertarian party has some views that are out there, the basic push is SMALLER GOVT, WAY LESS SPENDING AND TAXING, and KEEPIN THE GOVT OUT OF Both  STATES RIGHTS AND OUT OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Of course! Any socialist worth is salt, wants to get rid of gun RIGHTS, just as Hitler did. That way the tyrannical government can just take over without a fight.
What do you think of Barr?

I hope he loses by the largest margin ever in American politics. He is totally worthless.

I am not sure about Barr. In the past he had some positions that are out of step with me, BUT, he seems to have come around strong to the point that our government is out of control.

We have been, and continue to spend at rates that are simply not sustainable. We cannot as a nation survive debts of over 9 trillion dollars, with a dollar as weak as it has ever been, and the erosion of both States rights and individual rights all the while opening up the borders to any and all comers.

I think Barr is on board with attempting to do something aimed at stopping this steam-roller we have running over us.

He was a conservative republican for a lot of years, and I think he feels like I do that the republican party is now no different than the democrat party.

It is up to us to force a change somehow. This year the Libertarian party at least has someone that is not a fringe, wild candidate.
Barr is certainly closest thing to electable person ever outside the 2 parties. Even Perot did not have the background and he got what, over 20% of the vote.

Unfortunately, a vote for Barr is a vote for Obama.

first, every mass murder/school slaying etc... in the past 10 years was done by a registered gun owner or the kids of one.

that said, I disagree that all liberals or progressives want to ban guns.... I have no problem with regulated, sane gun ownership. But owning personal arsenals does not jive with a friendly society- does it?

But dig this... I think Rumsfeld's shrewd plan to redistribute military hardware to three mega-bases or outside the US... was a careful step in preparation of an overthrow. As is the use of private mercenary armies (terrorist training camps)... Its no accident Paul Bremmer fired all the Iraqi police and security personnel with no pay but able to keep their weapons... we've been training and perfecting urban warfare tactics against small weapons fire ever since invading Iraq.... hmmm perhaps another right-wing agenda... train Blackwater and arm it with taxpayer billions to one day overthrow our nation?

wouldn't surprise me in the least.

This nation won't last regardless, Colby. The fact that we don't figure into end time scenarios in the Bible is proof enough for me that we won't be a Superpower when those days occur.

so because some silly Christian FICTION book was made into a tv show... and fantasized about the book of revelations... you're going to stop behaving like a Christian and wait for the apocalypse???

I missed the verses where Christ says, once a tv show is made about endtimes... all my disciples can sit on their hands and wait form me to show up- please share.

what a cop-out of truley biblical proportions... the teaching I grew up with said our mission on earth was to follow Christs teachings up to the moment of judgement... sittin on yer arse ain't a commandment nor a beatitude.

what good book do you follow? TV Guide?

I don't base my beliefs on TV shows, Colby. In fact, if I watch 10 hours of TV a week I am having a slow week.

Unfortunately for you, you attack me rather than facts, How appropriate of another liberal trying to foist his weak arguments on someone else. Go find a sucker for that as I'm not buying it.

By the way, how many people have you witnessed to this week? Led to the Lord?

you referred to the bible as your basis for our nation's decline- not me.

yes, a movie series "the Left Behind" has created quite a stir amongst impressionable god-fearing christians who ate up the fiction and were able to toss their morals and ethics aside because they believed the end times were upon us... sorry I made a leap and tied your words (which sound remarkably like theirs) to theirs...
GEE I WONDER WHAT COULD HAVE POSSIBLY MADE ME DO THAT???

I don't subscribe to the "Left Behind" series of books or movies. The authors mixed fiction with truth, rendering it useless to me.

However, I do believe with all my heart the end time scenario in the Bible (which is not the same).

How many people have you led to the Lord? Witnessed to?

I don't know... why do you have your tally in order for judgement day? I believe the almighty keeps a better tally than I can.

Hey, if you don't want someone to judge your witnessing, Colby, then don't judge anyone elses. Gun control helps criminals and hurts law-abiders precisely because they're law abiders. Criminals will purchase guns on the black market while law-abiders will not. But why bother, reason does not even phase liberals. Oh well, Scotty is right, y'all are amusing to watch.

OMG I'm in the presence of holy rollers.... ooo

how many souls have y'all led to the lord?

pray tell.

seems in texas they teach to read imaginary words... which ones said I was afraid of being judged? And while yer at it, which sez gun control helps criminals?

enjoy counting sheep... but nothing more... you can get arrested for that stuff even in yer dreams.

I beg to differ with you Colby, specifically on the topic related to the post.

A gun toting society is a friendly society. If you know the guy next to you could be packing, are you going to cut him off, flip him the bird and cuss his family? Are you going to call someone out like you just did in some intellectually-superior and judgemental way? Probably not.

I'll keep my arsenal, which I only use for hunting and self-preservation, thank you very much. By the way, all of the kids that shot up the schools were either atheist or anti-Christian.

And the left behind series is indeed useless, scotty.

I agree with T.I. and will keep my "arsenal" which I use for the same reasons.

I may just be a West Texas country boy but out there this is no issue. Crime is lower, people are friendlier, people feel safer, and most people have a gun either on their bodies or in a vehicle. Go figure,

CowboyBoogie - West Texas is far more polite than Dallas. You could credit it to guns AND religion.

these days.. seems your logic could be true... since the soviet union disarmed its cache of nukes... the world has gotten scarrier.

So by your logic, we should let Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Columbia, Venezuala and Zambia get nuclear weapons and everyone would start acting like civil human beings.

is it silly to think if people treated eachother with respect,
we might not need arms? yeah... I think so. I agree with you all.

No one said anything about arming nations hell-bent on destroying freedom loving peoples with nuclear weapons. We were specifically referring to person owned, not state-owned firearms. When the governments hold all the power the people are victimized.

Your attempts to thwart sense with liberal rantings have failed.
