Who Helps Those that Help Themselves???

Question... I am 27 years old, married, and my husband and I support ourselves through working full-time.  I also attend school part-time (as my work schedule allows).  I keep finding so many people that are able to go to school full time on grants - not loans, but grants - that have not even attemped to support themselves or contribute to the world in the least.  Why is it that it seems that if you work hard, try not to burden society, you get punished for it.  Doesn't this push the message that you should stay home, quit a job it you have one, maybe have a couple kids, let the government support you AND take the thousands of dollars that they would throw at you for school if you did all this?  Is it just me, or is this kinda messed up?

I am 27 and work as a legal secretary. I would describe me as sarcastic, yet open-minded. People either love me or hate me, but I don't care as long as I think I'm right.
