***This was moved to The Entertainment section by an admin for some reason. I dont understand why but I will assume there was nothing under handed going on there. I am moving it back now. Thanks****
I have been coming here a while now and I think my time here can be categorized into a few different phases.
1 - Arrival - Analysis
2 - Settling in - Optimism
3 - Mixing it up - Frustration
4 - Beating my head against a wall - self explanatory
5 - Disallusion - Feeling defeated
6 - Renewal - giving it another shot
7 - Reality - Accepting the aggravation and looking past it
Ok so basically, I came here with a pretty naive idea that we were going to have political discussions. Now dont get me wrong... that does happen from time to time... but mostly we all just bombard one another with absurdity and polarized yelling matches...or pictures with various levels of shock value. At first, I thought that there was something wrong here and that this mentality of childishness and single mindedness was here because some people were ruining the experience of a balanced discussion for everyone by pressing their fanatical agendas. Well it didnt take long for me to get knee deep into a few of those "discussions" to realize that this was actually the normal way of things here... and actually... by looking at several other political message boards and blogs... I came to understand that this is just how we choose to express political talk on the internet.
It's annoying, aggravating, petty, stupid and obnoxious... but hey... that is the name of the game.
So, having accepted this I find it much easier to participate in it.
I am struggling with a pledge I have made with myself and some others here.
...that pledge is to be fair and to try not to get into a mud slinging contest with the kiddos. It is hard... but I am working on it.
I would hope that others could do the same... but again... I am now in the Reality phase on my timeline and I understand that those things are the main reason people actually come here.
...so I will not try to change anything. I will just try to ignor the more radical ideas on either side of the political spectrum and not wade out into the sewage as it spills over from the left and the right.
Dont get frustrated with this place.
It's ugly, nasty and annoying... but that is what politics is all about.
...but also... dont give up on it.
We can bring some sanity to help balance it a little.
...and trust me.
Fair and sane discussion is in short supply.
Thanks!

The Dark Knight
Review By Cyrus Martin
Screened 07/15/08 - Imax Theater - Dallas,Tx
Where do we... begin?
First off, I am not going to be objective.
I love Batman and so I am a harsh critic of the movies made about this character.
I expect the movies made of his story to be good... or at least decent.
I know the comic books, cartoons, graphic novels and films very well.
I am also well versed in the different versions of Batman and differing perspectives of who he is.
This remains true to the villains and supporting characters as well.
I am (for all intents and purposes) a Batman nut.
Ok so that being said....
What is my opinion of Christopher Nolan's sequel to Batman Begins?
Let me be plainly clear here...
This is the best movie I have ever seen.
It is shockingly violent so be prepared for that and requires a time investment. It was 2 1/2 hours long.
...but if you are even a modest fan of Batman then I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.
The story is amazing.
The action is furious and in your face.
Christian Bale adds new depth to both Bruce Wayne and Batman.
Gary Oldman shines more than expected.
Morgan Freeman has a large role and some great lines.
Eric Roberts is great too and is very surprising as a mob boss.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is far better in the role of Rachael than I expected.
Now for the big two...
Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger...
Stunning.
Harvey Dent is portrayed perfectly. I wont spoil anything. You will just have to see what happens.
Heath Ledger plays a Joker that makes Nicholson's version look just a tad ridiculous.
This is the Joker you have always read about but have never seen on screen.
This is the comic book version taken even further into madness than in the actual comic books.
Heath Ledger BECAME The Joker and I have no idea how he did it.
This is TRULY an Oscar performance.
I have no problem hyping this. You will be shocked and you will be amazed.
...but you will not disagree.
See this movie as soon as possible.
I will watch it at least 2 more times in the theater.
You will know why when you watch it.
Amazing.
Stunning.
Surprising.
Shocking.
The Dark Knight is the best film I have seen in years.
It is a dark and violent gangster movie wrapped inside a superhero graphic novel.
This is not a typical superhero movie. Be prepared.
See this movie and judge for yourself.
I promise you that you will walk out of the theater and want to get back in line.
10/10 - Perfection
Thank you Chris Nolan.
Thank you Heath Ledger.

Tuesday night there is a special screening for The Dark Knight at Imax.
Warner Bros gave away tickets to anyone that signed up on the movie's web site and could get their request in before they ran out.
A friend of mine is taking me so I will have a full review up here on Wednesday.
I'm a bit of a Batman fan. heh
Anyhoo, is anyone else here going?
