"Anyone who's tried to paint Obama as a Muslim, anyone who's tried to portray Michelle as angry or a secret revolutionary out to get Whitey, anyone who has questioned their patriotism — well, here's your image."

thanks New Yorker :-)

That's funny. What's so offensive about it? Scary maybe, definitely hilarious, but offensive? Not in the least.

Could Obama be "offended" because there's some truth behind it?

On to a different subject; Obama would send 2 more brigades to Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON - Democrat Barack Obama said Monday that as president he would send at least two more combat brigades to Afghanistan, where U.S. soldiers face rising violence and endured their deadliest attack in three years on Sunday.

The proposed force increase — about 7,000 troops — is part of Obama's plan to pull combat troops out of Iraq and focus on the growing threat from a resurgent al-Qaida in Afghanistan.

"As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan," Obama said in an op-ed published Monday in The New York Times, a day before he plans a speech here on his vision for Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We need more troops, more helicopters, better intelligence-gathering and more nonmilitary assistance to accomplish the mission there," Obama said. "I would not hold our military, our resources and our foreign policy hostage to a misguided desire to maintain permanent bases in Iraq."

Obama's campaign said his speech will focus on how missteps in Iraq have hurt efforts to strengthen U.S. security. He will also discuss his plans for the new brigades in Afghanistan, call for Pakistan to step up efforts dealing with terrorists, discuss the need for diplomacy to address Iran's nuclear program and address other global challenges such as climate change and energy security.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain is planning to speak about his plan for Afghanistan Thursday. He told reporters Monday, "I think we need to do whatever is necessary and that could entail more troops."

U.S. commanders have said they need up to three more brigades in Afghanistan — or as many as 10,000 additional troops — to both train Afghan forces and battle the insurgency. President Bush and Defense Secretary Robert Gates have promised to beef up the U.S. force in Afghanistan next year, but military leaders have made it clear they won't be able to do that until they can reduce forces in Iraq.

Obama says he will do that, redeploying combat brigades out of Iraq by summer 2010. He wrote that he would leave in place a residual force of undetermined size behind to "perform limited missions" like going after remnants of al-Qaida and training Iraqi forces.

"Ending the war is essential to meeting our broader strategic goals, starting in Afghanistan and Pakistan, where the Taliban is resurgent and al-Qaida has a safe haven," Obama wrote. "Iraq is not the central front in the war on terrorism, and it never has been."

McCain took issue with that point. "He was wrong when he said we've lost the war, and he is wrong today when he says that Iraq is not the central battleground," the Arizona senator said. "We are winning there and his proposals would jeopardize the fragility of the success we've achieved. And his refusal to acknowledge that success is remarkable."

There are currently 36,000 U.S. forces in Afghanistan, including 17,500 serving with the NATO-led coalition and another 18,500 conducting training and counterinsurgency. The recent spike in U.S. troops there resulted largely from the overlap of one brigade moving into the country, as another is preparing to leave.

Violence is on the rise in Afghanistan. Monthly death tolls of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan surpassed U.S. military deaths in Iraq in May and June, and a militant attack Sunday on a remote military outpost killed nine American soldiers, the deadliest assault on U.S. forces in Afghanistan in three years.

In his op-ed, Obama defended his opposition to President Bush's increase of troops in Iraq despite its success in helping bring down the violence in that country. He credited the increase for protecting Iraqis and weakening al-Qaida's effectiveness.

"But the same factors that led me to oppose the surge still hold true," Obama said. "The strain on our military has grown, the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated and we've spent nearly $200 billion more in Iraq than we had budgeted. Iraq's leaders have failed to invest tens of billions of dollars in oil revenues in rebuilding their own country, and they have not reached the political accommodation that was the stated purpose of the surge."

McCain criticized Obama for his stance on the surge. "The major point here is that Senator Obama refuses to acknowledge that he was wrong," McCain said. "He said that the surge couldn't succeed. He said he opposed the increase in troops. The surge has succeeded."

huh? But how can that be? I thought Obama wanted to "negotiate"? Doesn’t he want to “bring our troops home”?  Let me get this straight, he doesn't have a problem sending troops to fight overseas, he's just going to move them from one location to another.

I wonder what Jay and Nicole think of this. tsk tsk Obama, you’re such a warmonger.

Statueman: WRONG. Obama is now ONLY TRHEE points behind McCain. Huge difference from the nice 13 point lead he had just a couple of weeks ago. Check the last polls taken. That means that people are beginning to realize what a lot of us already know.

Hey Nic! Nice to hear from you again. OK, some of what you said I can agree with;

"Our focus should have been in Afghanistan and ONLY in Afghanistan to capture Bin-Laden and the other Al-Queda terrorists that are responsible for this entire fiasco."

True, however, we don't know ALL the reasons why Bush went into Iraq, yet.

"negotiate with IRAN before things get ugly between Iran and Israel"

I agree. BUT, if "negotiations" fail, then what?

And last, how can you be so sure that those two are "innocent"? Do you know them personally? Do you have access to everything they do, are a part of, know, and say?

All differences aside, I’m all for diplomacy and negotiations, but make no mistake, if we’re attacked or a mere part of a plan for attack, I say lets hit them hard and be done with it. I don’t like to play games and I’m tired of all this BS. AMERICAN FREEDOMS AND AMERICAN LIFE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE! Period.

"caused Iraqis to kill American soldiers'

CAUSED Iraqis??????? CAUSED CAUSED CAUSED???

Screw you Jay! How the hell dare you?

And that MORON Bugliosi can go BLEEP himself.

What the hell is wrong with some people? Just like we CAUSED our own attack on 9/11 right?

Some of you should be thought of as traitors. It's like you're part of a master plan to destroy America from the inside out. Now that's DISGUSTING!

I saved the best for last:

"if you keep voicing suspicions long enough either they get proven or you get put out of the public arena."

Really? Is that so? Are you trying to tell me that I can not think for myself and come to my own conclusions, or express them? But yet you where commenting on Carlos blog about how we ALL have the right to "blog" about whatever the hell we want. So which is it statueman, do we all have FREEDOM or not? Maybe just a select few? Maybe just the ones who agree with you and whisper sweet nothings in your ear?

I WOULD RATHER DIE THAN LIVE WITHOUT THE FREEDOM TO THINK FOR MYSELF AND COME TO MY OWN CONCLUSIONS ON ANY ISSUE. I am not a robot, I don’t follow orders or go with the flow. I make up my own mind. GOD himself gave me free will, who the hell is anyone to take that from me? NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.

Great advice though: “if you can't prove your suspicions then you're only attempting to murder a person with your mouth.”

Jay, Bugliosi, Nic, & co. take note.

As for your lecture on how “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor”, a line from one of my favorite movies, even though I'm not sure if she ever actually said it:

I promise to act as my conscious dictates.

“Lets say that the negotiations fail between Israel and Iran as long as we aren't attacked we have no business launching any kind of warfare on Iran.”

Wrong. We most certainly do have a right to make it our business. The business of protecting ourselves AND Israel. Or would you have us bend over? Or lay down and be either suppressed or killed?

“an attorney who thinks that Bush should be prosecuted for murder, but can't”

BECAUSE HE HAS NO PROOF Nic.

I will cease from assuming the absolute worst about Obama or anyone IF everyone can do so as well. Otherwise, let the BLEEP slinging resume.

Innocent Americans and Iraqis are dying everyday as a result of cowardly attacks on innocent Americans on 9/11.

Unless you can PROVE otherwise, because until then, I promise to act as my conscious dictates.

"To this day there is no proof"

And you know this because....??? You work in the CIA Nic? FBI? Some other Intel org. I'm not aware of?

I TRUST MY LEADERS, I BELIEVE IN THE AMERICAN SPIRIT AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY; I WITHOUT DOUBT OR ANY HESITATION ADAMANTLY 100% BELIEVE IN INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

Hussein was PROVEN guilty by his own peers.

“No one in America will be suppressed, injured, or killed by Iranian forces.”

Then explain to me why Iran has PUBLICLY announced their hatred of both Israel and The United States? Why has Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned -and other Iranians- that they will blow us off the face of the earth first chance they get?

“First of all he was talking about Israel, not America.”

No, he made references to both countries, didn’t you see the video footage on CNN where they held a parade with two missiles, one dedicated to us, the other to Israel?
Besides that’s totally irrelevant. The United States of America will NEVER allow an attack on Israel. The day we turn against Israel or allow such an attack, is the day I take my children to live elsewhere.

If Bush is hiding something, so is Obama.

You don't see it do you? We're both arguing exactly the same points of view, only on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Which now leaves me room to ask, what side are you on?

"bias opinion"?

So now believing homosexuality a sin, not granting criminals special privileges, (illegal immigrants/drivers licenses) and defending newborn babies that have survived an abortion makes me bias? Does loving The United States of America, saying the pledge of allegiance, and protecting God's chosen people make me bias as well?

Well then hell ya! I'm bias.

Now I understand when others have given in to the constant harassment of being labeled racists.

No evidence? Have you not seen the reports of what Saddam did to his own people? Or the yellowcake recently removed from the region? Check some of the blogs, the reports are there. I believe Iraq to have assisted in the terrorist attacks based on those reports, unless you prove them to be fake. Can you do that?

Wrong Nicole, not only did Iran threaten Israel, they threatened us as well. Go to CNN and look for the video tape of the missiles they paraded around not long ago, I'm not talking about the ones they recently fired. Besides, did you miss this:

"The Zionist regime is pressuring White House officials to attack Iran. If they commit such a stupidity, Tel Aviv and U.S. shipping in the Persian Gulf will be Iran's first targets and they will be burned," Shirazi was quoted as saying.

Hey mystere, you're absolutely right in your comment. I'm not defending anyone, I'm simply saying that I believe in innocent until proven guilty and I honestly believe that a lot of the Intel behind Iraq hasn't been released yet, not because Bush's afraid of any wrongdoing, but to protect our people on the inside or on the ground. duh.
However, if the opposite where to be proven, then I will gladly concede. Till then, I trust God, I ask for his wisdom to discern truth from fiction in order to support what’s right.

Of course I know there's no proof of the things he's accused of Demoboy, please give me some credit, I found the cartoon to be funny. I really don't get what the big deal is- especially if none of its true. At the same time, is there any proof of the things Bush's accused of? And if this is just a silly cartoon meant to make fun of things that aren’t true, why all the fuss? He should be thanking The New Yorker for getting him elected right? Or is it all show?

Voodoodog- Have some respect for other people. Its not like mredfost was talking about you. I actually agree with him... they should do a huge satire on Bush to show what a jackass he really is. I for one would love to see the man rot in prison.

Vanessa- Shriazi is talking out of his ass. The man has no control over what really happens in the Iranian Government. Just because he hates America does not mean that every other Muslim in Iran hates America too, and that certainly doesn't mean that they are going to bomb us.

No need to apologize to me Mred. But I'm staying out of it (for once) To be perfectly honest, I like voodoodog, he's a Marine that's served his country, so I have lot's of respect for the man. There's a lot of people I like, Demoboy, DfD, JayNgram, Jay Kumar, crafty, Mystere, lots of people, even TAYL. sometimes. I really like exchanging opinions with you guys, especially when it’s cordial.

“Shriazi is talking out of his ass. The man has no control over what really happens in the Iranian Government.”

I hope so Nic, and I wish that applied to Ahmadinejad as well.
Whomever's elected in November, I hope does what's right by the citizens of this great country.

No DfD, I don't see that at all. I see people desperate for a change. Bored and tired of the same BS day after day.
Just because I don't agree with someone on an issue, doesn't mean a damn thing, other than a difference of opinion. Which makes no difference on my overall perception of them as human beings. And it's not above me to admit an error when I'm wrong. But you wouldn’t know anything about that, would you?

There is absolutely NO truth behind that New Yorker cover, and its absolutely disgusting that they would portray two innocent people in such a negative and defaming way.

What the Leftist Rag New Yorker is doing is insinuating the American public is Racist against Muslims and brown people. And the Leftist nutcase RACE-BAITERS perpetuate that message. Just read Nicole's and Kumar's posts... Clever huh?

"the first time Saddam's Iraq turned around a UN inspector and broke the cease-fire agreements that halted the hostilities of the first Gulf War, he would have order hostitlites resumed and march into Baghdad to remove Saddam."

That's true.

Jay DfD is a Nationalist, I think. It seems they have an org., club, gang, sect, clan, something. They appear to share information, retrieve information, both legally and illegally it seems, use the internet to spread their message, and even unsuspecting people.
Now this is only my opinion, I could be wrong, but it would really help if DfD and co. where brave enough to just come out and tell us. I can understand why they wouldn’t if they’ve obtained illegal information or broken other laws, that’s easy to figure out, but another reason they’re so sneaky about it is that their message is flawed.

DfD, your desire is that every single person who enters the United States, first fill out an app., state all the reasons how their presence here would benefit this country, and become a full pledged citizen FIRST, before stepping on American soil, that’s part of it right? Please, correct me if I’m wrong.

First flaw, isn’t that sort of what Mexico does? But you say they’re racists and call them every name imaginable. Yet you agree with their laws? That doesn’t even make sense. Please explain that. What are the current laws here regarding people entering from other countries anyways? Do people entering legally receive citizenship or legal permanent or temporary residency? If the latter, do they have to become citizens?
Did the pi

... Did the pilgrims, puritans, colonists, who landed on Plymouth Rock fill out such app. and request permission from the Native Americans? Oh but that doesn’t apply because the Natives where a bunch of savage ignorant Indians who hadn’t ESTABLISHED a Nation yet, right? Now by who’s standards hadn’t they? What about African slaves? Did they fill out an app.? Where they granted legal residency or citizenship and swore allegiance to this country before being thrown in the boat or after?
And what about those who entered legally from Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, and other countries back in the day, did every single one of them fill out an app., explain how their presence in America would benefit the U.S., declare allegiance to the U.S. and develop patriotism BEFORE or AFTER entering the U.S.?
And last, would enforcing such law be retroactive, or is there a commencement date?

Filling out questionnaires and applications are for National security? OK, I agree with that one, makes perfect sense, sounds like a good idea. But couldn't those who mean us harm fake it?

My question is, how would one develop love and patriotism for a country BEFORE entering? Assimilation can only be achieved by experiencing the lifestyle, liking it, and embracing it as yours.
All I'm trying to do is understand some of you who are hard core nationalists. Like I said, correct me if I'm wrong.
