Was listening to the news this evening...the mother of the young boy from Garland that drowned last night is blaming his death on the rescuers...she said she is the mother of a dead child because of them...maybe I didn't hear the whole story but what was that kid doing at the rushing water and where was she?  She stated that they didn't do enough to save him and then it was reported that she was going to sue the City of Garland. As if there hasn't been any warnings or news stories about how dangerous these swollen, rushing waters can be!

She's right. The rescuers interfered with the natural selection process but nature always wins in the end. Sad but true.

Hats off to the men & women out in this weather dealing with these types and other weather related emergencies.

It's a shame. Wrong place to be playing if you can't swim. I agree....Mom needs to look at where she was at during this time...... I understand she is grieving.....would she had gone into the fast moving water? I fully admire the guys and gals that go out in this mess and try and rescue the nuts that do stupid things that end up getting themselves killed. It could have been 3 deaths if those 2 officers had not been able to get themselves back to the shore. :o( Mom needs to get away from the cameras until she has had time to think about what she is spewing out. Grieving is one thing but pointing fingers is a whole different ball game. This would rank up with the nut suing the cleaners over the missing pants. :o/ Wasting time of the courts and money.

A prayer for her son but also MANY prayers for the men and women out there dealing with the emergencies.

My two cents worth: Why was that boy by the raging water in the first place? Why was the mother not IN the water trying to save her son? How can any parent stand on the sidelines in watching their child die? Why is she blaming the rescuers?

Municipal departments have rules regarding inherant dangers and the risk to their employees (much like every other job). The rescuers (fire department, police, city workers) had no requirement to risk their life in this situation; they had a requirement to assist in rescuing the boy - they did that and their attempt failed. When situations such as this occur and another person puts their life at risk, they are a hero - they were never required to put themselves in harm's way. I can only wonder how much money the parents will sue for...

the MOTHER should be sued for the costs involved because she was stupid and didn't have her child at home during a storm!!! AND he didn't know how to swim ... and he was playing near water? Its utterly stupid to blame the rescuers! I'm sorry for the child - but the MOM is to blame!

I feel for her, but sure hope she doesn't let her grief be laid off on the very people who are out in these rains and floods, risking their lives, trying their best to save everyone who has either by negligence or accident found themselves in peril.

I am sure the rescuers have to live with not being able to save that kid. It has to be hard to lose someone they try so hard to save, but their bravery for even making the attempt should be applauded, not disparaged and sued.

Is it distress talking or does she see dollar signs flashing before her eyes from the lawsuit before her son is even put in the ground? Thank God the workers are able to go home to their families. If she had it her way one of them would be in a body bag too.

I pity the lawyer who takes this case. If I were on the jury she wouldn,t get a dime.

If she does actually file a lawsuit I would like to hold a fundraiser to back the rescuers defense.

Why wasn't the mother doing her parenting job and knowing where her child was at all times. She doesn't want to take the blame for her own stupidity so she has to blame others. She should receive a bill for all of the people that were there trying to save her son. If she sues I would like to be a juror, because she would not get a dime.

I have little tolerance for stupidity or stupid behavior but great compassion for tradgedy...but I hope the Mayor of Garland doesn't act as quickly as Fort Worth's Mayor Moncief ...he opted to pay those people three quarters of a millon dollars...(they are still suing everyone who ever walked in the water gardens) In case some of you are not familiar wiht what I am talking about it is in re to those 4 who drowned in the Water Gardens in downtown Fort Worth a couple of years ago. They were a church group from Chicago here for a meeting or something and the pool at their hotle was closed for repairs and so their chaperone(s) decided to take these children to the "wading pools" at the gardens...well I've lived in Fort Wortha long time ..even been to the gardens but have NEVER seen any"wading pools" To make a long story short...who knows what really precipitated the accident but 4 from this group drowned....now there were all sorts of blame passed around...unsafe pumps..water levels too high..etc...but the bottom line to me was the irresponsible choice to disobey the posted signs and warnings...the overwhelmimg griefthat such a terible thing happened clouded the real issue ...that these people were breaking the law and once again they were paid...I call it "blood money"..and seveal lawsuits are still pending ...how is money going to make this any easier to bear or take away the pain? When are we going to stp up to the plate and bear our own responsibility ...clearly in the case of the Garland mom she was grieved but how come the first thing in her mind after blaming the hero
