For everyone outraged at Iraq, what about a worse problem coming from the very streets of our nations cities? A Nightline report yesterday came from the E.R. of a Philidelphia hospital. There is always a flow of patients with wounds inflicted out of pure malice such as being ran over, intentionally, by a car  or being viciously mugged and stabbed or being shot with deadly intent. More people are killed (murdered) on America's streets than soldiers are killed in Iraq. Isn't that sad? 75 to 150 people die in our cities DAILY. Imagine the outrage and protests that would result from such frequent killings in Iraq. So tell me, what's more important:protesting five to ten soldiers dying in a week or the hundred every day Americans murdered daily?

(no disrespect intended towards our soldiers. they should be held in the highest regard)

Good point. I ask the very same thing to people who talk about how much religion kills.

This may sound crazy but, If the President declare martial law, think about how much crime rates would dropped? The other thing is maybe put a ban on guns? Run with me for a moment on this. Japan and Britain doesn't allow guns not even for their cops. Unless, they have a special license and they have one of the fewest crime rates in the World. These are a couple of solutions? Maybe? That of course doesn't sound very American. Maybe we have come to love things that are not so great for us. You can turn the channel on your satellite and see how many station show death, violent, and you can't just say that is just a movie or show. If that's the case, why would so many companies dish out billions of dollars on advertisement. However, We as American love our freedom, and there is that fine line between good and bad. You definitely brought up a good point. It's a point that I used to wonder when I served during Desert storm. I don't know? It's almost like were immune to it because it has happened so many time.

Phoint, I'm not willing to give up my freedoms for a bunch of thugs. Too many criminals are released with only a slap on the hand. The justice system has to get tough.

I for on find it a bigger outrage when our soldiers are killed. Most of the killings that you are talking about is not bad people killing good people it's crack heads killing other crack heads. My loss would be greater if my airman son was killed vs just another crack head on the street. If our govt would actually keep these drug addicted thugs in prison or enforce the death penalty in all states like Texas does we would curb our murder rate.

If religion kills, poofrog, matches cause arson. Your argument is weak.

Phoint1, history has shown what bad things happen to a populace without arms.

TM, I pray your son arrives home safe. I honor our military above others for they are doing a job. Having said that, I do not agree that crack heads are killing other crack heads. That's an obvious generalization. Finally, as much as we'd like to make the claim, the death penalty ONLY deters the one killed by the state from killing again, it DOES NOT deter murder or any other crime. Check your facts.

I never said it wasn't a bad thing when soldiers are killed. My opinion is that it is more of an outrage when so many American find it neccessary to shoot the guy down the street or around the block. There is not much we can do about the number of soldiers killed in Iraq so I think ore emphasis needs to be put on what we can change, which is crime on the streets. God bless our soldiers!

As a Christian, I would think you'd be much more cognizant of what the Bible says about our contemporary times. Crime, violence etc will steadily get worse.

scotty, exactly. That's my point. But there's a growing intolerance of religion on the basis that religion kills. As such, they believe the world would be a better place without it. But I contend that people will still murder with or without religion. It's not the religion itself, it's the fanatics within the religion.

Seems to me that there are quite a few "fanatics" in Islam - or could it be that it is a violent religion to begin with? I assert that it is.

I deleted both your comments because I'm not going to let a blog war start. I know the Bible says evil will escalate towards the End but God never told us to tolerate it (he never tolerated it). And whee DID religion become the issue? I'm trying to draw attention to another problem that's to often taken for granted. Why can't everyone be more receptive and less willing to argue? That's one of the things causing the disunion that plagues America. And I never said religin didn't kill because history shows obviously that it does.

Religion doesn't kill, my young friend - people do.

Taht probaly wasn't the best way to say it. People kill but religion and divisions caused by religion are the impetus.

Ok, that does sound a lot better. I have noticed that when the proponents of Islam threaten people (as they did today), it's always civilians, and yet the world is not outraged. But when we as Americans accidentally kill civilians, we are lambasted and berated by other countries, the UN, etc. Explaining that is simple in my eyes: the world is evil.

That brings me to another question: why not withdraw from the U.N.?

I agree. Did you know we fund nearly 40% of the UN? And yet the majority of in is inept, a cash drain, ineffective and corrupt.

They treat us like a printing press that's not printing fast enough. We send all of that money and then (with Gore's help) bash us and demand, guess what, more money! I don't what to think, I just know we're getting kicked around like a hackeysack. Maybe if we withdrew some of our billions in foreign aid the rest of the world would get the message.
