These "D.A.R.E." people who are trying to sell ID cards were all the way in my neck of the woods today too.  Forney is about 20 miles East of Dallas.  They were quite pushy.  But I did not purchase the ID cards.  I told them I already had them free thru the kids' schools.  But they were selling other things to raise funds for the D.A.R.E. program.  Thats what they said anyway....Hmmmmm.   They sold me on a $20 coupon book.   I am addicted to coupon shopping and they hit me at my only weakness, more coupons!  I really did need the new Enjoy the City book, and I do know they are used as fundraisers for other organizations.  But I still felt really pressured by them.  They did not mention to me what was reported on the news though.  Something about scaring parents into buying the ID cards or else.  The or else was something like 'if your child was ever abducted, without the cards it would take 48 hours to isue an Amber Alert compared to only a matter of hours .'  I didnt hear that pitch, if they tried that on me, that would have probably made me suspicious.  Anyway, just wanted to put in my 2ยข when I heard about this a few minutes ago.

When I walk by solicitors, I pretend like I am blind, deaf, and dumb. If that doesn't work, I hand them a note asking for a donation so I can get some new cardboard for my signs for a donation so I can buy beer...........

Just sayin...............

Next time, ask them if they have a solicitors permit from the city. Most cities require a permit to go door to door to solicit. If they can't produce one issued by the city in which you reside call the police to check them out.

Actually, I forgot to post that they were set up outside of Walgreen's, right in front of the doors, and they said Walgreen's was sponsoring them.

I hate to think that "Scare Tactics" are what they use in the class room. This will accomplish nothing. I hope that they are honest, brutly honest if necessary, but honest none the less. When you speak to young people you never, NEVER want to get caught in a lie. As all should know, once caught, every thing else you say, truth or not, becomes suspect. For young people the only way to know the truth may be the hard way. I spoke only the truth to my son. I told him the good, the bad, and pulled no punches on the ugly. He listened, and believed. I am proud to say he is married, to a good woman. They have given me the most beatifull grandaughter on earth. He is a Staff Seargent in the U.S. Aforce, where he serves with honor.

Anzac, to all the men and women of law enforcement AND each and all branches of the service, thanks so much, for all that you do.

Heather, Kestrel hit the nail on the head. Next time someone knocks on your door, whether it be from a church, or asking for donations, ask if they have a solicitors permit. Almost every city in the metroplex requires one. If they can't produce it, call the police.

You never know if it's someone scoping out the neighborhood, trying to see who's home, and who isn't. This was one of the first things they told us, when we formed a neighborhood crime watch.

The only time I don't, is if it's school kids, with their little fliers for the school.
