So what does "making a decent wage" really mean in this day and age?  Is it making minimum wage? Does it mean making at least $10.00, $15.00, or $20.00 an hour? Does it depend on the size of your family and what type of home you own/rent?

For me, it's making enough to pay my bills and support my kids, and "hoping" to save some $ as well.  (that part hasn't worked too well so far).

I went to this site to see how I fared in comparison to others with the same occupation.  It asks for alot of information and is quite detailed in the report it gives you.

http://www.payscale.com/

I discovered I make $22,000 more than a person with the same years of service, doing the same thing, in Indiana.

That site also gives you information re: benefits, annual wage converted to hourly wage based on vacation days, weeks off, etc.

So what does "making a decent wage" mean to you?

ummm...."decent" is hard to define....I guess I do ok....but it still isn't enough....even when you throw my wifes check into the mix.....we end up short a lot....

I made "decent" money working for the postal service....of course it was also 70+ hours a week.....it was good money but I was slowly becoming a nut case....(the after effects still linger to this day....as you can readily see from some of my comments)....

I wish I made more where I am....but I am happier here....that says something too....

what good is it making a lot of money if you are a miserable, exhausted lump of sh** all the time?........I keep telling myself this to make up for the fact that I need more money....(it almost works too)....

I always thought a decent wage depended on where you live and how you choose to live.A simple life in a modest home requires less money than a lavish life in a big home.It costs a lot less to go fishing in the lake I live near than say deep sea fishing in the gulf.It just depends on the individual's wants I guess.

makes sense to me Bil....
keeping up with the Joneses was never my thing....

there are things that I would like to have....but I have everything that I NEED....and I should be thankful for it....

could definitely be worse........thats for sure

I agree bil. Now, if I had my way, I'd live in a modest house, fish at a nearby lake, and make a HUGE salary.....(but not gamble and spend it, save for college educations, etc)

Ted, I agree with you also. I took my present job for ALL of the reasons.......great hours, summers off (if I didn't choose to work summer school), no weekends, AND I got a huge (to me) pay raise from what I was doing before. Also, my job is within 10 miles of my house...and THAT in itself is getting to be a great "benefit" to add in, with gas prices and crap.....

Originally from "way up North", I moved to Dallas about 2 1/2 years ago. I have discovered that where I am from and Dallas are completely different in regards to values, work ethics, and general way of life. That's all I will say for now, as to not *piss off* the masses! Perhaps I will get to that in a blog eventually, or, perhaps not. Oh, and as you'll see, I usually have an opinion on everything...............
