Dallas ISD has a 64 million dollar deficit that was recently discovered.  Whose fault it is, no-one is sure of yet.

The DISD has announced there will be layoffs/RIF's (reduction in force) forthcoming in the next 2 weeks.

Classrooms will now have to ask for a waiver to allow more than the state mandated 22 children per classroom, as teachers will be laid off indefinately.

Staff will be informed as to their status this week or next......

What *I* want to know is, HOW is Dallas supposed to promote education, and make students "college and workforce ready" (their theme) by INCREASING the number of students per teacher??

WHO did this? WHO went 64 MILLION above budget? HOW??

And now look at who is going to have to  pay for it.........THE CHILDREN, the FAMILIES, and the STAFF in the DISD.

pathetic.

I don't THINK so, lol. But we had a meeting today with the principal to get the word out before the media does.

What they will be doing, as I understand it, is combining classrooms (more students per class), thereby eliminating teaching positions. OTHER staff (nurses, media specialists (aka librarians), and other specialists (like speech, etc)) will be going to MORE schools.............not just one or two--therefore they won't need as many.

Our school's population has dropped by about 45 so far this year............

I agree they need to get rid of excess, but having over 22 kids in a class, while trying to reach the "goals" the superindent wants, is NOT conducive.

I agree on that one Mark! Especially after the big fiasco a couple years ago with people charging vacations an chit to the DISD!

And to think they can't even decide if I can BUY my OWN printer! (since they can't afford one and the old one we use isn't working and is 10 years old)

A ten year old printer? We just got rid of ours, and it was only four...

Printers can cost less than $60! What is up with that?

I think 10 years ago the printer (commercial type) was like $1500.00. I guess they don't know about the newer printers?

Can I buy your old printer? LOL

They didn't figure in the salaries of 600+ new teachers and staff. Hoooooollllllly CARP that is just stupid. The whole board and Hinijosa need to go. I smell a recall at least if any DISD taxpayer grows a brain

The top brass is always the one to get canned. Trust, but verify, is a tried and true management method...

Tell 'em to get the money from AIG, I hear they have billions of out tax dollars now.

Everyone who runs that school district needs to be investigated with a microscope and a probe.

Yea and watch them keep the teachers who can't pass their certification tests and let the good ones go.
Apparently, they use math the same way they teach it. Wow, my checkbook always balances.
Whoever is responsible need to be Bit-- slapped and fired.

Hi Ill,

I agree here...

We just gave AIG over 1000x more money. And, we in Texas have a surplus that has never been doled back to the tax payers.

I say Austin needs to help DISD and in doing so clean house starting at the top.

It can happen!!
