The 64 million dollar mistake is now up to 84 million, due to recent raises.

DISD has declared a financial state of emergency. But they "say" they will keep the class sizes limited to 22 for grades 1-4.

So if you have 70 kids in 1st grade, what do you do? That means 4 separate classes-- with 17.5 students per class.

If you take it down to 3 classes, it's 23.333 students per class. Are they going to PAY an extra teacher for 1.333 kids? NO, they will "waiver" them in!

How about a grade level with 78 students.  That means 4 classes of 19.5 students, or 3 classes of 26 students.

I'll bet my last beer that DISD will NOT limit the number of students in a classroom to 22.  (Wanna bet?) That's just a ploy to keep the parents happy. The parents don't WANT their kids in classrooms with more than 22 kids to one teacher! I don't blame them!!

On a side note, Hinojosa gave up 5% of his salary (his salary is around $334,000). I BET he'd rather give up 5% than 100%!!! (5% ended up being somewhere around $16,000.00 per year)

I have to wonder what is going on "behind closed doors" as we speak. The school board is "discussing" these issues now.

Doesn't the Main Man (Hinojosa) have to have approval by the school board for most things??

I guess I don't believe that ONE person is at fault, but MANY at the top of the DISD Food Chain!

The school board isn't going to do any lay offs just yet. They are going to look into other areas where they can cut money. You know my first thought on that!

84 Million?
Is this incompetence at it's best?
If this were a business, there would be prosecutions for sure.
Where's the accountability?

I'd like to know why there isn't any mention of an investigation into this.

I know of one area............the superintendent.

What are you thinking as for the "other areas", PA?

My ideas would be: cut stipends for being bilingual, expect every student to learn English, cut stipends for being a committee chair person when your (damn) meeting occurs during regular school time, CUT MEETINGS, OMIT overtime, get chit done on time...

That's for starters. IMHO.

Gawd, I know Mark. As I said, I cannot believe they gave effin raises to people when they are 64 million (now 84 million) in the hole! (NO, I am NOT forfeiting MY raise--they might make me be a janitor next week!!!) Wait....what are the janitor's responsibilities again?

Stop hitting the bid button or go to Hinjosa for the money. His pockets are apparently very deep.

I think if they stop paying such high salaries to the Superintendant and board members then you can pay for the needed teachers. They can also cut spending on cushy itemsthey are so fond of, like personal chefs, luxury cars, box seats at professional sports games, trips to Las Vegas, and the likes. None of these are important for education.
Sorry, it a little mad this morning at all this.
Have a great day.

If he is willing to give up 5% of his salary, I would be 10% of mine he knows where that money went......
