I confess I have written a few blogs about the DISD financial crisis, and commented on others written by Lee, TB, and others. 

Today "Dr. Mike" (Hinojosa) had a meeting with businesses.  Yes, it's an annual thing, usually done to "brag" about the accomplishments of the DISD UNDER Mr. Hinojosa.  This is a sponsored event, I believe, so no DISD dollars were used to pay for the hotel, meal, etc.

From what I have heard (Fox 4 news), Hinojosa apologized profusely about the deficit. He declares it is HIS mistake, and HE will NOT resign, he will FIX it.  He will "fix" it by firing 650 teachers and 100 office staff, last I heard. What an effing "fix".

Will he "fix", then, the teachers that are affected that lose their homes, and have to file bankruptcy?  Will he "fix" the children who will have to be in classes with more children?

Will he "fix" the parents who have lost trust in the DISD?

Here's MY perspective:

I, as a nurse, have Dr. orders to give Vicodin (1 to 2 tablets) every 6 hours as needed for pain.  Instead, I ACCIDENTALLY don't read the directions, and give 20 or 200 Vicoden.  Person dies, and I am so sorry I made this mistake!! BUT, it was a mistake, an OVER-SIGHT!! Let me make it up to you by offering free medical advice for the next 12 months, but please let me keep my job!!!!

I am a surgeon.  I was to amputate the left leg, but amputated the right.  I am sorry!!! It was an OVER-SIGHT! I'll give you a free prosthesis for my mistake!!

I work for AIG, I am in top management.  We need a bailout, and I sure hope we get it, because I am going to retire with my "severence package" and let "those people" figure a way to get the money back.  "See ya in Tahiti at the annual Banana Festival"!!

IMO, what's good for the goose, is good for the gander.  Treat the DISD MANAGEMENT eff-up like you would treat ANY OTHER entity that effed up!  FIRE THEM (TOP administration)!

Don't mess with the children and teachers who are the ones on the "front lines" and the ones who are doing their jobs in this war!

illusionsssss,the "only" way he can fix the mess is for him to resign now! The money the DISD will recoup by his resignation will at least cover a small part of this shortfall. Then go right down the line, firing all those over paid supervisors and office staff that aren't needed.

If Hinojosa fires these teachers, they will never be able to get these teachers back,ever! And word will get out to other school districts in other states and Texas will have one hell of a hard time ever recruiting teachers from other states.

He says he will stay. The parents of Dallas should take that choice away from him with protests until he goes.
This is no laughing matter. How will he return the money? Getting rid of experienced and tenured teachers is an affront and an injustice. No firings should be allowed and if they do, teachers should sue as a group for restitution.

First of all let me say I am HONORED to be mentioned on here.

Awe struck is more like it.

Today I tried to find out a little about the history of Dr. Mike -- where he lives what kind of taxes he pays etc. And usually I am pretty good at tracking down this information.

But I hit a road block with Dr, Mike.

I have not seen one reference to his complete name whether it is Michael middle initiaL OR first name Michael (middle name)Hinojosa.

He is always just referred to as Michael Hinojosa.

Do you realize how many people by that name are licensed to drive and/or vote in the State of Texas?

A bunch!

No mention of his age or date of birth -- or even his wife's name.

Dr Mike is a Man of Mystery

And it makes me wonder just what all ELSE he and the DISD are trying to cover up

I have an idea! IF Dr. Hinojosa says he'll fix the problem with the DISD, maybe President Bush should hire him to fix the nations financial mess. Nah, that won't work. There's already too many crooks in Washington D.C.

I know alot of hispanics that have fake names, fake SS numbers, no insurance, and no drivers license.

To be fair, I am sure there are alot of white and black people with fake names, fake SS numbers, no insurance, and no drivers license.

Whatever color they are, they ought to be arrested. (and if they are illegal, they should also be deported)

I am so busy trying to get my "real work" done these days, that I don't have as much time to post in entertainment...........

Perhaps one day, again............

Ill's bedtime now. School starts in less than 9 hours and it doesn't include shower/dress/drive time.

Dallas hit it on the head!

Texas will have one hell of a hard time ever recruiting teachers from other states.

This will be DISD's excuse for hiring all those teachers from Mexico. I bet not a one of them already hired gets the pink slip.
