Today the DISD board met, greeted by hundreds of teachers opposing the Reduction in Force of DISD staff. 

The teachers chanted the words "Hinojosa, Hinojosa, Hey Hey, Goodbye"  while the board members met. They carried signs, such as "Road to BROKE" (Versus Road to "Broad", which is Hinojosa's "infamous" desire to be the "best urban school district in the USA "by 2010), as well as signs asking about integrity and justice.

The teacher's children carried signs such as "Will we have Christmas this year?"

In "this end" (I am sure there are alot more "ends" to come), the Board decided to eliminate 650 contract positions, 550 which are teachers. 

Thankfully, it appears they will pay the teachers through January 15th (the end of the semester), and will offer early retirement packages to qualified teachers. 

The TEA also wants to make sure the RIF's are done PER POLICY, and district wide, as opposed to "by campus". 

I saw a news story about someone in central personnel, who was employed by DISD for 12 years as an administrative assistant, who lost her job on Monday.  Let me ask this:  There are MANY administrative assistants in DISD. Some were recently hired. Now, if DISD was being "FAIR" about this, wouldn't they RIF the newly hired administrative assistant and give the 12 year veteran admin assist an opportunity to take the "other" admin assistant job?  Clearly (to me), DISD is NOT following policy or protocol in layoffs.

I think it will come back to haunt them, however.

Dr. Mike needs to apologize, step down, and move to Zimbabwe.

I have said since this broke-Hinojosa BYE BYE. What a complete failure. Even though my daughters are grown, I do volunteer in under-served schools, and my HUGE concern is can we ever find anyone that can run this school system with integrity?

Excuse me, Dr. Mike needs to move back to Mexico or Puerto Rico. Zimbabwe wouldn't allow him a passport. Wait, should illegals need passports?

I think the teachers & other employees should strike before any one gets laid off & call for the resignation of Hinojosa & all dumb BLEEP at fault for this fiasco.

Why isn't anyone calling for Hinojosa's head?
Why isn't there an investigation into this mess?
Why is there a yellow pick up truck sitting in the driveway of my neighbors house when she should be in Dallas teaching the kids?

PA, as I understand it, layoffs for contract employees won't begin til Oct 9th.

Today is "fair day" for elementary schools, and next Friday is "Fair day" for middle and high schools. THat may be why her truck is there....for now.

I hope there will be a full blown investigation into this whole mess.

I still want my answers about why they can't get the fingerprinting done, and get rid of the people who FAIL the background check FIRST.............

OH forgot about fair day. Don't remember what level she teaches, only that she's at an Oak Cliff school.

That fingerprinting would be the best way to go second. First would be getting rid of Hino and the rest of the crooks. His pay is far greater than his worth or abilities.

Hire a working man or woman...to run the district, and I am sure you could hire one a lot cheaper that Dr. Mike, and still pay them above average wages....

Thank you, Proud American, for pointing out what we teachers have been saying from the get go. We are all about to be fingerprinted and have background checks run. It baffles me that this was not done BEFORE we were hired, but that's another story. Why not wait and see who has to leave after this process is finished?

Addamm_Bombb - It's illegal for teachers to strike in Texas. Besides that, it would ultimately be the students who get hurt in that situation

Well, I sort of meant it as he needs to go....in so many words. BUT, I AGREE there needs to be a full investigation into this mess! Something "just ain't right".........

This 84 million error for DISD is comparable to the 700 Billion US government BS....IMHO.

...And I am still waiting to see if Fox 4 news ever inquired about the fingerprinting and why that is not done PRIOR to lay offs.....

In my other blog, Julie (web producer) said she was going to give it to a reporter to check into. I would like the answer from the Board re: why this isn't being expidited before the fools lay off the innocent employees.

I thought teachers went on strike once before. Maybe it was another state. But whats the fine for it. It would make a he11 of a statment. I hope the state & or the feds are looking closely into this matter.

HE11 he probly hav enough $$$ he made while there to live for a while better than most of us.
