Well I missed the news tonight. From what I am reading it was alot on ESL. I personally dont believe it should be mandatory but since so many hispanics are here this is just helpful. I am really tired of these hispanics pretending they dont understand english BUT they do. This is a bunch of poo poo. I am in the medical field and wish there was a course on medical spanish.
On another note, I think sign language should be offered. I meet alot of people whom are deaf and they are americans folks but we are going to spend tax payers money on aliens, what about people who pay their taxes ? Shouldnt we learn to communicate with them ? They didnt cross any border ?
Whats ya'lls thought ????

To be totally honest. To talk to my nieces and nephews, they need to learn english as their first language. They cant spell, use correct grammer, etc and they are 9,14 and 20. My sister really is no better though. The apple doesnt fall from the tree. I read the teens posts here and its eally the same thing. It seems alot of the kids cant spell or talk the english language. I am not sue what language it is that they speak and write.

While we're at it, let's teach our kids the mysterious language of Scientology. In that way we could keep up with Tom Cruise and his maniacal religion, understand SP's, and our kids will grow up in tune with the wonders of L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology! Not.

I completely agree with adding sign language it is a universal language and has a lot of oppertunities in the future i.e there is a great need for teachers who can sign! I am completely Against Forceing anyone to learn Spanish #1 It's our country! Weather they were born here or not they should have to speak ENGLISH! #2 The Spanish they speak and the Spanish we teach are 2 different languages one is proper the other is slang and even the Hispanics may not pass that class!

My opinion is that we shouldn't force anyone to learn any language, sign or otherwise.

A student convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.

Think about it.

I know people who took American sign language as their foreign language in College and it changed their whole perspective on Life and their career. One of them actually works with the American Institute for the Deaf, or some such agency, in D.C.

We, Americans, are generally ignorant of other cultures and languages because we're free to be ignorant. Many of us choose ignorance rather than exert the effort required to learn and understand others.

Teens and kids are the future of this planet. They will determine what world we live in while we are old. Better learn to adapt, who knows what they'll decide to do with an aging generation of boomers that don't speak their language or care to understand them past judging them.

No one does anything against their will. Ever. Even if someone holds a gun to your head you have options. No one is ever "convinced" against their will either - Scotty frolics with wordplay. To be "convinced" implies belief in that we are supposedly convinced of so.. a student who holds the same opinion still was never convinced in the first place. Sounds like a moron with a "foolish consistency" to me. Are we talking about Dubya?

Well that's what happens when I think about things Scotty.

Broshem, you stated incorrectly: "No one does anything against their will. Ever."

Your argument is one of semantics, Broshem. The alternatives you speak of border on inanity or violations of the law, ergo, we do do things against our will.

My sister is deaf so I am not against anyone learning ANY form of language. My entire point is mandating change.

ultimately you have to agree. It may against your conscience but not against your "WILL" if you did it then you willed it to be.

say what you mean oh unfunny one

When y'all pay me to be funny like I am accustomed to, then I will be funny. Until then, you'll just have to ignore my postings or suffer the drabness.
