19 year old in Bedford sworn in as a council member and a 19 year old freshmen from the University of Oklahoma was elected as MAYOR for Muscogee, Ok.  A city of 38,000 people.

Do we honestly think that these "still wet behind the ears" gentlemen can do the job that is needed?

Mother Charged in Newborn's Death

(IMO, women who do stuff like this, especially if they already have a record of some sort of child abuse or neglect, should be ORDERED  to get FIXED!!  And, the law should make sure that it gets done.)

A woman charged with killing her newborn and then hiding the baby's body in a halfway house dryer had a history of abandoning children, according to court records.

Alicia Gina Carranza, 23, was arrested Friday and charged with capital murder after residents of Victory Home discovered the baby's body early Friday evening. Her bond has been set at $500,000.

Records show that Carranza was arrested and charged in 2006 with two felony counts of child abandonment. While court records show she was sentenced in that incident this January, they don't indicate what the sentence was.

Police said Carranza secretly gave birth to the baby girl at the halfway house sometime between midnight and 7 p.m. Friday. No one at Victory House -- which prohibits pregnant residents -- knew Carranza was pregnant, police said.

"After giving birth, she admitted to detectives that she actually smothered the child," San Antonio Police Officer Joe Rios told the San Antonio Express-News for its Sunday editions.

Women working in the laundry room found the baby's body after noticing bloody towels sticking out of a dryer that had been used for storage because it was not operating.

Investigators linked Carranza to the baby after noticing that her bedsheets were covered in blood. Residents also reported a large amount of blood in the women's restroom.

Carranza first told investigators that her menstrual cycle had started, but later confessed to giving birth, suffocating the child and placing her in a dryer, police said.

Carranza was taken to a hospital, where she remained Sunday afternoon. It was not immediately clear whether she had an attorney.

Police: Man Beats Ex-Wife to Death, Threatens Suicide.

Dallas police said a man allegedly beat his ex-wife to death at her workplace and then threatened to jump from a bridge on the George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton. The man went to her workplace in the 12000 block of Hillcrest Road and waited for her to show up Monday morning, according to police. Investigators said he beat her in front of several witnesses. She died shortly after from her injuries. Police said after the attack, the man drove to the Highway 190 overpass at the Interstate 35 interchange and was sitting on the railing. A negotiator was able to talk the man down from the bridge and he is now in police custody.

Wow, she was his EX-WIFE.  Why would he want to beat his ex-wife to death?  I can't wait to hear the rest of the story.

NOTHING justifies what this man did.  He sat and waited for her.  In other words, this was premeditated.  He knew where he was going and what he was going to do.

Some people just need to learn how to control their anger and deal with issues like human beings instead of like animals...wild ones, that is.

Who stopped by to wish a Happy Mothers Day.

I loved the comment, Onyx!!  lmao

Actually, I did go out to the land...and it was very temping to get back on.  But, I let my son and husband have all the glory.  I am still in recovery....about another month to go.

Keep your fingers crossed.  Dr. said he might have found a small abcess...had an MRI on friday and will get results this week.  He said it will not be good if they have to go in and do surgery.

Thank you so much, Back2Nature, for dropping in and leaving your kind words.  I have not been on the Faith blogs much lately....well none at all...in a while.  But, I do have some stuff that I want to share and will return.  God has been good to me through my healing and I pray that everything continues to go well.

I also pray that you had a wonderful Mothers Day and that the good Lord blessed you and yours on that beautiful day.

I_S.....I hope you didn't have to work and that you had a wonderful day as well.  Miss ya...you're not around much anymore.

That is the question.

This man beats his wife to death with a baseball bat and then he wants to "emotionally" sit on top of a bridge and threaten to jump.

I know this sounds mean....but, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR????

Sorry peeps, but, I have no sympathy for someone who wants to sit there and cry AFTER they have already done something so brutal to a loved one.

So, now we have to spend tax payers money, while he sits in jail and gets fed and trys to "turn his life around" while he awaits his trial only to be sent to jail and then be let out on parole a few years later.

Sorry Buddy.....no sympathy from this person.  You should have thought about what you were doing when you grabbed the bat and went after your wife with it.

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS!!!

She is responsible for the death of that man!  And, yet, a judge lets her out on a 25,000 dollar bond until her appeal comes up.

This appeal can take years before it comes up.  And, in the meantime, she is free to go do it again.

And yes, her hubby stands right by her side.

I guess I will never understand why God gives children to people who don't want them or care about them.  I know that it is not for me to question his will but, why????

These are babies that have done no harm to anyone, but, probably just give love to the only people or person who has done them wrong, just for them to get hurt.

Guns, Drugs in Filthy Home Where Children Were Abandoned
Dallas police have charged a man with two counts of child endangerment after they say he abandoned his 2- and 5-year-old children at their filthy home where there were guns, drugs and ammunition lying around.

Investigators said the house in the 3500 block of Holmes Street in South Dallas was covered with trash including razor blades and broken glass. A toilet was overflowing with human waste and water and electricity hadn't been turned on in several years.

Police said Gregory Amphy, 22, left guns, ammunition and drugs inside the home with the children.

"I couldn't do no kids like that, animal or nobody, that's sad," said one neighbor.

Other neighbors said they had never seen the kids playing outside.

When police arrested Amphy, he was reportedly agitated and banged his head several times on a police cruiser. He was taken to Parkland Hospital to be checked out before he was booked into jail.

Child Protective Services has custody of the two children.

Police have not been able to locate the children's mother.

2008, 8:51 AM CDT Philadelphia FOX affiliate WFXT had the cameras rolling during a confrontation between police officers and three suspects. Related Items Links Images Of Confrontation Stories 15 Philadelphia Police Officers Off Street After Video Released By PATRICK WALTERS
Associated Press Writer

PHILADELPHIA  --

A half-dozen police officers kicked and beat three men pulled from a car during a traffic stop as a TV helicopter taped the confrontation.

The video, shot by Philadelpia FOX affiliate WTXF, shows three police cars stopping a car (Warning: Viewer Discretion Advised) Monday, two days after a city officer was shot to death responding to a bank robbery.

The tape shows about a dozen officers gathering around the vehicle. About a half-dozen officers hold two of the men on the ground (Images: MyFoxPhilly). Both are kicked repeatedly, while one is seen being punched; one also appears to be struck with a baton.

The third man is also kicked and ends up on the ground.

  • "On the surface it certainly does not look good in terms of the amount of force that was used," Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said. "But we don't want to rush to judgment."

The officers were responding to a report of a shooting nearby, police said. It was not immediately clear what preceded the confrontation.

Ramsey said Philadelphia officers have been on edge since Saturday, when Officer Stephen Liczbinski was fatally shot with an assault rifle after a robbery.

Police fatally shot one of the robbery suspects; another was arrested Sunday and a third man is still being sought.

"There is also a lot of heightened emotions since Sgt. Liczbinski was murdered on the streets just Saturday," Ramsey said.

Liczbinski was the third officer slain on duty in the city in the last two years.

Attorney D. Scott Perrine, who represents the three men seen in the video, said that as terrible as the officer's death was, it does not excuse such actions by police.

"We don't take into consideration the emotions of police officers when it comes to the discharge of their duties. ... Your emotional state, being tired, doesn't justify what's on that video," Perrine said.

He said one of his clients suffered a welt on his head the size of a baseball and one of his legs was seriously injured; he didn't know the extent of any injuries on the other two men.

Perrine also said he did not know what preceded the traffic stop but called the actions seen on the tape unjustified.

"It clearly shows a lack of any reasonable investigation before these police yank these individuals out of the car and take turns delivering blows," he said. "This is a time for a thorough investigation to see what it is that happened here."

A court official said late Tuesday that the men had been charged with criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangering. Bail was set for two of the men, while the third was awaiting arraignment.

Lt. Frank Vanore, a police spokesman, did not immediately return a call for comment from The Associated Press.

I would like to know what you think about the story of the little kindergarden boy who is laying in ICU because of an injury in school.

He has to be helped to breath and eat through tubes.  Doctors are not sure that he will come out of this condition.  His future is not clear.

The school report read that he was RESPONSIVE BUT, SOME WHAT LATHARGIC.

RED FLAG!!!!!  Does that not constitute calling parents and ambulance right away?

This is not the first time a school nurse has messed up like this.

I am tired of hearing the excuses and the fault being placed on the child or the parent.

What excuse does this school have for this?

The life of this little boy might be gone.

You see the police cam watching these two boys cross the street from a distance.  It is working fine and recording.  The boys are just walking and talking.  They walk between a couple of houses on their way to pick up another friend to go to church.

The officer pulls up to where the boys crossed.  The cam goes black.  No more recording.

Suddenly, more officers on the scene and the cams come back on and all you can hear is a boy yelling that his arm has gone knumb and it hurts.  You don't hear the officers at all.  All you hear is this boys screams.  The cams are working perfectly now.

What happened inbetween??  Why did this officer have to break this boys arm?  What is his defense?

I don't think there is any.  Why not question the boys?  Why automatically assume that they are breaking into homes?  Why get so physical?

This boy is now in the hospital because his arm is so badly broken that he has to have surgery on it.  The other boy is released by mother is told that he got jailed for breaking some pedestrian law!!!  Get real!!!

AND, this is not the first complaint on this officer.  A couple of weeks before, he uses his car to bring down another person.

Well, I wonder where all of the money for the lawsuits will come from just because some officers feel that they have the power to do what they want when they want and how they want.

Who can you trust now?  You can't even trust a cop when you get pulled over.

Police doing drugs, stealing, raping, beating their spouses, falsifying tickets.

    Where is the protection?

    In the DMN.....

Mexican President Felipe Calderon defended immigrant workers and their CONTRIBUTION to the U.S. economy.

He also stated that Mexico needs to produce jobs that will keep its people home and end the painful seperation of families.

Quoted saying: "The American economy cannot run without Mexican labor, which contributes tothe prosperity of this country.  It's not my dream to spend the rest of my life seeing how Mexicans risk their lives crossing teh river or the desert to find opportunities."

It also read: Mexico needs financial and technical help from the U.S. to fight the growing power of violent drug cartels along the border, President Felipe Calderon said on Tuesday.  He told the DMN he's not assking for favors but the threat is "closer" than some in Congress realize.  "This is a SHARED problem that requires a shared solution." he said.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???  Or, do they even have a right to be called human beings when they can do such cruel things to others who can't defend themselves?

I am so glad that the good Lord gave me the sense and the ability and will to care for my handicap child at home where no one would ever harm him.

DALLAS  --  More than 800 employees at Texas' 13 large facilities for the mentally and developmentally disabled have been suspended or fired for abusing patients since fiscal year 2004, state officials said Tuesday.

In response to an open records request from The Associated Press, the Department of Aging and Disability Services said that 239 employees were fired or suspended in fiscal year 2007 for the abuse, neglect or exploitation of residents.

There were 200 such disciplinary actions in 2006, 203 in 2005 and 180 in 2004, according to state records. The breakdown by school was unavailable. The 13 state schools and centers combined have about 12,000 full-time employees.

The revelations come a month after Gov. Rick Perry's office confirmed that the civil rights department at the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating allegations of abuse and neglect at the Denton State School, the state's largest with about 650 residents. It's at least the second such investigation into state facilities, including one at the Lubbock State School in 2006 that revealed widespread abuse.

An advocate for the mentally retarded called the number of employees disciplined "stunning."

"It indicates to me that there is clearly a culture of abuse or neglect in these facilities," said Jeff Garrison-Tate, president of San Antonio-based Community Now.

Texas has 13 large institutions, called state schools or centers, in which nearly 5,000 mentally retarded or mentally ill residents live full-time with round-the-clock care. That's about five times the national average. By comparison, New York and California combined have about 4,600 residents living in 17 institutions, according to data compiled by United Cerebral Palsy.

State records show more than 450 incidents of verified abuse or neglect in fiscal year 2007, a year in which the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services investigated nearly 3,500 allegations at state schools. About 51 percent of the confirmed incidents involved neglect, 31 percent involved physical abuse and 16 percent involved emotional or verbal abuse. Less than one percent of the cases involved sexual abuse.

State officials also acknowledge at least three state school residents have died since 2002 in which abuse or neglect by caretakers was a factor.

Laura Albrecht, a spokeswoman for the Aging and Disability Services office, said the firings and suspensions reflect the state's "strict policy" on abuse and neglect.

"We have gotten even tougher," Albrecht said. "Our employees go through training to recognize abuse and neglect and to report any incidents."

Perry told The AP that the suspensions and firings indicate that state schools are trying to rid themselves of bad employees.

"What I make of it is that the agency is doing its job," Perry said. "If there are individuals who have broken those parameters of employment, they need to be removed, they need to be fired, need to be dealt with."

The Denton facility, where a notorious abuse case occurred in 2002, underwent its most recent comprehensive inspection last April. The school was cited 25 times for failing to meet federal standards.

    Citations included:

-- Failure to "ensure clients' rights were protected, including the right to be free from abuse, neglect and mistreatment."

-- Failure to "have or to use policies and procedures that prohibit mistreatment, neglect or abuse of clients."

-- Failure to "have evidence to show that all allegations of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment were thoroughly investigated.

A more recent inspection in January found that the Denton State School "failed to educate direct care staff on basic first aid, health, and emergency needs."

Perry was notified in March that the Justice Department was investigating the Denton school, said Perry spokeswoman Allison Castle. The notification letter, obtained by The AP, said the investigation "will focus on protection of residents from harm; medical and nursing care; habilitation and treatment; and the failure to place residents in the most integrated setting as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act ... ."

"We certainly welcome their findings and the governor wants to ensure all residents of state schools receive the highest quality care," Castle said.

State Rep. John Zerwas, a member of a legislative committee studying state schools, said lawmakers need to look into allegations of abuse coming from the institutions.

"If the state is going to assume some of the responsibility for the ongoing care for these individuals then we have to make sure they be provided the highest quality and the greatest safety," said Zerwas, R-Richmond.

Garrison-Tate said he has personally witnessed incidents of abuse and suspects only the most egregious cases result in firings and suspensions.

"The bottom line is people are getting really injured, and they are not safe," he said.
