In the DMN.....

Mexican President Felipe Calderon defended immigrant workers and their CONTRIBUTION to the U.S. economy.

He also stated that Mexico needs to produce jobs that will keep its people home and end the painful seperation of families.

Quoted saying: "The American economy cannot run without Mexican labor, which contributes tothe prosperity of this country.  It's not my dream to spend the rest of my life seeing how Mexicans risk their lives crossing teh river or the desert to find opportunities."

It also read: Mexico needs financial and technical help from the U.S. to fight the growing power of violent drug cartels along the border, President Felipe Calderon said on Tuesday.  He told the DMN he's not assking for favors but the threat is "closer" than some in Congress realize.  "This is a SHARED problem that requires a shared solution." he said.

My question is.....With all that we offer here, such as welfare, medicaid, WIC, will they still leave? Even if they do have work in Mexico?

Our money is still needed.

How is this a shared problem? Did we create the problem?

"The American economy cannot run without Mexican labo"
1. Yes it can.
2. I'm SURE he's referring to ILLEGALS.
3. Anyone who's in charge of a dirty 3rd world, socialist, corrupt country like mexico, has NO BUSINESS PREACHING TO US.
4. Lastly, "welcome to Tx Mr. Calderon. Now go home"

Mexico needs a makeover. I would think that we should help that country before we do countries millions of miles away. Mexico is our neighbor and we might need their help one day. Wish i had the answers...i'd run for Mrs. President :)

The answer, like with undisciplined children that take advantage and steal from you - is tough love. Close the door! IT'S OUR MONEY that supports a great deal of their economy, even with all the oil. They must clean up their own, self made MESS and stop bringing it here.
If they didn't get in here, they could send millions of our dollars back there.
As with Iraq, it has to fall, before it can be rebuilt with promise.

It's just about falling all the way down now. in the long run it might save our country to help them now. If they clean up, create jobs and increase living standards the people will want to stay there. Then a lot of our illegal problem would be gone, the drain on our welfare system would be lessened. I'm afraid a wall isn't going to work out well. I do not want illegals in our country and am willing to accept whatever works to keep them out. i'm just saying what i believe would help.

My thought exactly!

(all the above. =0) )

They won't leave........they need our welfare system so that they DON'T have to work.

Once they get a taste of our "FREE" country, they aren't about to leave !

Send all illegals home - - if we need them, we'll call them !

Only thing that should be "FREE", is their path home !

We will see. They tend to brag too much about themselves lately. America has no problem. One guy stated that the jobs that we as Americans didn't want. I believe that he should say " jobs that they stole from Americans at a cheaper wage and at lesser craftmanship performance done poorly. Their so poor how they do work they can't even hook up and get any central air running good without some fault causing problems. There are situations that the wiring that is done so pooring you wonder why a lot of the maintence can't get thing done right in these apartment complex. I seen kids fresh out of school do better work did they do. And that is with no field experience.

"Did we create the problem?"

yes we did. We let the government create these unconstitutional wealth redistribution scams (aka. entitlements). Without these scams, the ne'er-do-wells wouldn't be coming here.

I can see Graywolfs point....much of this IS our fault.....(or our governments I should say)....

In a way....we "created" this problem by turning a blind eye for so many years.....our own governments reticence to enforce our own laws, put us in this situation.....

so in a way......YES...this was done by our own doing.....sad but true

I believe that it is true as well.

Our government is not trying very hard to GET them out. The might be working on KEEPING them out, but we need to get out the millions that are already here.

I"m sorry folk's but he has a point. We do depend on cheap Mexican labor. ESPECIALLY here in Texas. I get very tired of all the hatred I read here spewing out toward the Mexican workers. There are some who feel immigrants are the root of all evil. I have to disagree. Yes, there ae those who work the system, and there are those who frink and drive and commit crimes. They are not alone ,citizens of every size shape and sex are doing the same thing. Over the years I have worked with literally thousands of immigrant children and there families. I found them to be hard working, family orientated and deeply religious. Further, when I went to their homes they were warm generous and welcoming. They come here because this is a better place and they want better for their children. THE SAME THING YOUR ANCESTORS AND MINE DID.I sometimes wonder if thy had blue eyes and blond hair would the some negative feelings be so rampant. To pullout a favorite old solution of mine , let'sj usr seccede from theunion annex mexico and form a better Republic.

I agree with your disagree!!! Government is the root of all evil! If not for the government, the illegals that come here to sponge off of us wouldn't, leaving those that actually want to work and build a better life, resolving the whole issue.

I am of Scot-Irish-Russian heritage, and I have to tell you that when the "Irish Travelers" were in the news a few years ago ripping people off I was ready to deport them just for ripping Americans off....so no I wouldn't feel differently if they had blue eyes.

My ancestors came here legally. That is the issue with me. I think most people are frustrated that people want to say we are against South Americans, when really what we are against is the criminal activity of crossing our border to enter our country illegally. We just very simply want people to follow the rules when they immigrate here.

If we become the Republic of Texas again, we had best not annex Mexico if we want a better republic.
