This video shows nothing else, except a bully cop.  You can clearly and plainly see what this officers intentions were.  As you watch the video, keep an eye on the officer walking towards the sidewalk .  Where he is looking as he is walking.

This officer claims that he fell to the ground along with the cyclist when the cyclist "ran over" him.  The officer never touches the ground.

I am glad that he has been striped of everything.  Policemen/women like this, DON'T belong on the streets.

Video Shows New York City Police Officer Shoving Bicyclist

A video posted on YouTube shows a cop apparently body-checking a bicyclist during the critical mass ride on July 25, 2008.

MyFoxNY Reports

NEW YORK  --  The New York Police Department has stripped a police officer of his badge and gun after a video posted on YouTube showed him body-checking a bicyclist who was part of a well-known monthly bike ride through the city.

Witnesses said the incident occurred Friday in Times Square during the Critical Mass ride, a monthly protest of urban reliance on vehicles.

The video shows the cop standing in the street as bikes whiz past. He begins to slowly walk to one side as the cyclist, Christopher Long, approaches. Long appears to veer left to avoid the cop, but the officer seems to speed up his pace and then violently knocks Long to the ground in front of crowds of people.

The NYPD placed the unidentified officer on desk duty pending the outcome of a department investigation.

Long was arrested and charged with attempted assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. The criminal complaint against him claims he deliberately steered his bicycle into the officer, causing both of them to fall to the ground.

Long's lawyer said he hopes the New York County district attorney's office will drop the charges in light of the charges. The D.A. is investigating.

This is beyond bad to me. To have the balls to do something like this in front of hundreds of people then have the balls to lie about it on record.

He hit that cyclist pretty hard.

TM, do you think they go bad or were bad to begin with and use the badge to help them with their bullying?

Having been a police officer here's my 2 cents - some when receiving the badge believe they are the judge jury and executioner. The ego comes out, where as this can and is easily be hidden during pysch exams. Polygraphs do not and are not proper uses to bring out and grade egoism and "enforcement entitlement."

Some develop over time, resentment of certain kind of people's behaviors. They may act more rogue to domestic violence abusers, drunks, druggies, etc. The nature of being around these types of people and circumstances on a daily basis can bring out these rogue acts. Suicide rates among police officers are very high, as is excessive drinking.

Policemen (and women too) are human, and are just as fallible as the rest of us. It's more pronounced when law enforcement personnel get directly involved in ill-fated acts and events because we tend to think they should know better. We don't hire law enforcement officers based on a strand of dna that exempts them for stupid or criminal acts. They are usually hired based on what they have not done in the past and their appeared risk level in the future.

And, I very much understand everything that you have said, xsinister. I believe that there ARE alot of good policemen/women out there.

This one just shocked me at how "openly" he did what he did to that poor cyclist. I mean, what could that man have done to make this office do what he did? Just because?

I too have been in the law enforcement community. Not in the civalian area. But in the Military community on the federal level. So when I see these sick-o's that are cops. They make the rest of us look bad that are good. So my opinion is that there are some that need not be cops. Should not of been in the first place. Maybe it is a family thing that they are cops to carry on the so call famity traditsion, But the cycle needs to be broken to keep the ones that can't handle the pressure of law enforcement.

xsinister1x, Most everybody here knows my "pet peev". I can not remember ever having seen you post on any of my blogs. As a former police officer I would appreciate it if you would find my blogs, and post your opinion. As far as that officer goes, he does not need to be a cop. If he can't take someone riding at him on a bycycle, but veering away before any contact, what might he do when some idiot spits on him?

According to the news the person knocked off the bike had caused problems with traffic and pedestrians, before the officer, asked Him to stop and He told the officer to F off.
What happened before the incident is not shown,I would like to know the whole story.
Apparently these bicyclists are very militant, in how they are, trying to get their point across, not caring about blocking traffic, and or annoying pedestrians.
These bicyclists are protesting according to the news.

I don't care that the cyclist was an azz. This officer still should not have conducted himself in that manner. He was suposed to be there to avoid conflict and problems, not cause them. And, if the cyclist was in the wrong, how does the officer doing wrong himself make it right?

This officer could have grabbed the bike or something else. He did not have to check the cyclist like he did making him go into the the public. There are alot of wrongs here.

The badge does not give him a right to bully anyone. And like ironmans said, I'd hate to see what he does to someone who does otherwise.

you also have to wonder why that sorry excuse of a human decided to pick on that one guy instead of the dozen that rode past him.

either stop all or none.

hopefully the sorry excuse will get fired and the cyclist will sue the city. CHA-CHING! he just won the lottery.

babysister,
you are correct. we do not have the full story. the cyclist could have been ordered to stop. for all we know, that cyclist just ran over a child just before he comes into the camera's view. so many times, people just see or hear a snip of the whole situation. i cannot imagine ANY cop doing something like that in front of that many people without something causing him to behave that way. i do know as well, there are dirty cops, judges, politicians etc. so my eyes are wide shut lol! i see what the cop did, but it may not be exactly as i saw-the whole truth. before ruining a career, we should have all the facts.

I was wondering what happened before the incident.
The officer had let others, pass by.
According to the News the guy was asked to stop, and had told the officer to F off. before that he had caused some serious problems with pedestrians and traffic. Had he run over someone walking? We don't know.
The problem with some of the now infamous phone cams and video cams is we always don't see the whole story.
I know their are bad people everywhere, but I do think there is more to this story than the eyes see.

lol

Like I said, two wrongs don't make a right. What if that had been a kid the officer did that to.

If anything can make the cop fly off the handle like that without following PROPER PROCEDURE then, he does not belong where he has to deal with people that make him mad. He needs to be sitting behind a desk.
