How many of you have gone to the grocery store to buy what you need for a good dinner with your family and come to find out, they don't carry most of the products anymore?

Last night, I went to buy the ingrediants for a whole homemad barbq...homemade brisket rub, coleslaw, patato salad, mac & cheese and carrot cake.  Well, I could not get half of the ingrediants at Sac-N-Save, which is also now called Carnival.

When I went to pay, I asked the cashier, do you not carry an American products anymore? (he was a young black man) He started laughing at me and asked me what I needed and maybe he could find it for me.  I told him, "don't bother, I just spent 2 hours in the store looking".  He laughed again.  I asked "why do you cater so much to the mexican people?  There are still Americans here who like a good American meal."  He said "you think that's bad, we are going to be putting the whole store on sale soon because we are closing down for it to be remodeled for a new store."

I asked "what store is it going to be?"  (like I really needed to ask)

"Fiesta."  He said and started laughing.

He said that he was going to have to find himself a new job because they are only keeping "certian employees" on to the new store.

We know what that means.  So, I said "you better start learning spanish."  (I was being sarcastic.)

This poor young man is going into his senior year in high school and is now worried that he is not going to have a job which he needs to purchase all his senior year stuff.  And, I am more than sure that he will not be allowed to keep his job when the store changes to Fiesta.

I felt so bad.  I told him of a place where he could go and apply and hopefully get a job befor he loses this one in October.

Now, I am going to have to drive further to a TomThumb in Garland or an Albertsons.  When I used to just drive around the corner.   DAMN!!!

Great bait blog...

Do you understand demographics?

"American Food Products are Gone" is the title of your blog.

You go to a store that demographically speaking is well known for its Hispanic customer base and you are complaining about not finding your ingredients for your dinner.

Then, you say you spoke to a "poor young black man" who will be supposedly losing his job when they build a new store because he is not Hispanic.

And now, after all this, you will now have to go to a chain supermarket which would certainly sell the ingredients you need because of it broad based customer base.

What am I misunderstanding?

lol....your are right, POV.

Didn't see it like that as I was writing it. I was only thinking about the products that I need to go else where and find because I am determined to have my meal!

Oh, I know Luv.

I remember when my wife and I first were married and living near Bachman lake.

We used to always go to this Minyards. Well, as time went on, we noticed that our cart was more and more empty and had to go to another store to find stuff.

It happens...Neighborhoods change...People's needs change...

Yea, I understand that. How about we just add to the stores instead of changing it comletely?

You know, how they used to have the "latin isle" and the "oriental isle". Now they need to have the "american food isle".

So, she uses apple vinegar instead of white wine vinegar? Cause they don't carry white wine vinegar but they did have apple.

I really love coleslaw and it is a MUST with brisket for me!!

Interesting blog. I don't know why you'd choose Carnival over Kroger though. :)

Luv, have you eaten at Red, Hot and Blue?

Yep...It totally changes the dynamic of the slaw.

She actually made it by accident once and it pretty much stick.

Plus, it goes really well with the BBQ sauce and brisket.

Kroger is the bomb...

If you are hungry, you can basically get a meal at the one by my house with all the samples they have.

LMAO!!

LOL....

MM, I really don't like to drive so, when I do HAVE to, I like to go near by. I do like Kroger, I just forget my card all the time!

There is an Albertsons on Buckner and Garland Rd.. I need to sweet talk my hubby into driving me around again. He hates it when I grocery shop. I like to go isle by isle. Including the pets section...I got my babies to feed.

There's one in Arlington, off of 30.

Mmmm, good stuff. Anyway, they put the coleslaw ON the brisket sandwich. It sounds weird, but man o man.

this kind of thing is happening in my area too........

question?......is it possible to just have a grocer that can serve everyone?......why is it so important to specialize or cater to just one group....???

BESIDES wal-mart?.......ha ha......I still won't go there.....

I recently switched from Tom Thumb to Krogers....

gotta say one thing about Carnival....the one near our shop has an AWESOME bakery......always great stuff.........and fresh....I like goin there and just tryin a few things......just because they look so good.....

even if they did call me a "gringo" there.....ha ha.......

No, I have seen those bbq sandwich recipes where it calls for the coleslaw on the sandwich.

I will be in Arlington on saturday...maybe I wil look it up. In the mean time, I have to do this meal for my husbands championship soccer game. The guys are looking forward to it.

Got any suggestions on side dishes?
