Busy Race & Media Weekend for Marc!

April 26, 2008

Austin & Kyle, TX — Marc had a busy schedule this race weekend. It started on Friday at Thunder Hill Raceway with an interview with Austins FOX 7 Weekend Sports Anchor Dennis de la Pena. The interview was filmed at the track is to be broadcasted at a later date on Fox 7 in Austin.

Then Saturday Morning it was off to the K-MAC Sports Studio 19 in Austin for a live On-Line Radio show, The A-Line Auto Parts JRA Kids Club Show. "It is Great that our team and sponsors got all the the media exposer in the Austin area." Marc Said.

After the Radio show it was off to Thunder Hill Raceway for a HOT night of racing action in the #19 Modified. "I want to thank Aaron Brungot with JRA Kids Club for being my transportaion to and from the track for this weekend." Marc would say later.

Marc would qualify 7th for the Express Jet Pro-Modified 50 lap Feature, but end up starting 6th after one car left the impound area to work on his car. In the 50 lap Feature Marc would move up to 5th early. With only a few laps in, running in a tight pack, the #26 of Bob Slezinsky would hit Marc causing the pick up tube in the fuel cell to move causing a fuel pick up problem. "All I could do after the 26 hit me," Marc would say, "was to make laps and stay out of the way, the fuel pressure would drop so low at times the engine would stall" The race had several cautions which help Marc manage a 7th place finish in the Feature.

Madison has Strong 4th Place Finish!

First Race of 2007 came on a beautiful night at Wichita Speedway. Marc took the first laps in the "Smiley's Racing" Sponsored #19 Modified during practice at laps "It felt good to get behind the wheel after the long off season." Marc said. "The car performed well in practice."

Marc started in the back of the Heat Race, Marc quickly move up, and would finish in 4th place in the heat. "The car was loose on exit and entering the turn" Marc would say after the heat."Over all a successful first run, no mechanical problems at all"

In the 20 lap Feature, Marc would start in the 6th position, 3rd row outside. The feature would see only one caution for the #89 car doing a solo spin in turn 4, right in front of Marc. Marc avoided contact with the #89 car and lined up for a restart. On the restart Marc was running 5th behind the #14 Burney Gibson, while up front, #48 Rick Wycough, along with #3, Brandon Pinson was pulling away from the field. Marc followed the #14 around the #11 car coming off turn 4 and moved into 4th. The 2 leaders had put a straight away lead on the #14 and Marc before both of them could get around the #11 car. Both Marc and Burney were able to run the leaders down with 5 laps left. All 4 cars took the white Flag and you could have thrown a blanket over them under the flag stand. Coming of turn 4 for the checkered flag, it was almost a side by side finish. All 4 cars crossing the finish line almost 2 by 2 less than a car length apart. #48 Rick Wycough would come out the Winner, #3 of Brandon Pinson 2nd, #14 Burney Gibson 3rd and Marc finishing 4th"I made a minor adjustment on the car after the heat." Marc would say after the feature. "The car performed Great, It took me a few laps to find where the car worked best on the track, but when I did, we closed fast on the leaders. Congratulations to Rick & his Team for thier First win in 2007"

With over 100 cars in the pits for the North Texas Asphalt Championship Race, Mother Nature was the winner this weekend. Red River Speedway looked more like just River Speedway.
The weekend was not a total washout! Friday night Practice saw lots of cars, Barbecue & beverage consumption. Saturday the gates opened to sunshine with pactice in all classes completed...then the rain came.
The Track and there crew tried to keep the track dry but mother nature finally won out. After overnight night rains dumped as much as 6 inches of rain. Promotor Mike Cooper had to call the show off.

Racing Legend LLOYD RUBY will be Grand Marshall at Red River Speedway for the North Texas Asphalt Championship Races!
October 14th & 15th, 2006

For 18 years, race car driver Lloyd Ruby challenged the brickyard at the Indianapolis 500. For five of those years he led the race at various points. He was always in contention, it always looked like it was going to be his year. But it never was. He became known as "the best driver to never win the 500," a label that was something of a backhanded compliment, but one that never bothered him. "It was almost the truth," Ruby said. "It was just bad luck to be leading the race five different times and then to go out on every one of them. Every year, I just put it behind me and hoped the next year would be the one. I guess I just didn't stay around long enough."

Witchita Falls, Texas just recently honored Ruby, 78, the elevated expressway that runs the length of downtown from north to south. What was once known as the Broad/Holliday overpass will now be called the Lloyd Ruby Overpass.
