I love my dogs dearly and I have spent a fortune over the years on their health and care but Holy Smoke!  I can't believe anyone would spend 50,000 to have an animal cloned. This lady sold  her house to pay to have her pet, a pit bull, cloned. For fifty thousand she could have funded a shelter for a year . She could have adopted and saved countless animals. I know there are people who prefer pure breds and I am happy to supply them but even I  wouldn't do this.I think she is just a little off plumb on this , You send a child through college for this ammount! Am I alone? Would any of you do this?

As much as I love my Princess, she will only get a headstone. Having been spayed, she will have no progeny, and thus my wife and I can determine how to react to her (please, God!) far in the future death...

That is what pets are for, isn't it? If not for them, I wouldn't care so much...

I did a blog about this awhile back. I love my pets more than anyone can imagine. I do not believe in cloning. I don't think it is right.

I understand though how much it hurts to lose someone you love and desperately want back. I would love to have some of my babies back.

I opted for cremation. I feel like a part of them is still with me.

My sweet old boy is 15 this year . He is healthy so far though slowing down . WHen he goes I have his son and grandsons here with me . I will grieve and miss him but it is part of the circle of life. Now, if I could have cloned my child that would be another story and no price would have been too high . But , a pet No. There are too many animals out there that need homes.

I agree about the pets that need homes.

However I feel about my pets as you do about your child. People think just because it is an animal it is different. They are considered not as valuable because they are an animal and not human.

I have lost pets and I have lost family. There is NO difference in the pain and loss you feel. Not for me anyway because I consider my pets as people because I love them so much.

I would never clone either. As much as I want my grandmother and my babies that have left me I would never do it. I don't care if it was free of charge. They can make them look the same but they can't give the same personality which is what makes everyone human or furry ourselves.

I guess I have the mindset that just because one is a pet and one is a child, if you love them the same way what is the difference. They are both living and it is how you feel about them that really matters.

The death of a child can be just as devastating as the death of a pet. It all depends on how much you love them and how you feel about them.

I've done both and trust me nothing devestates like the loss of a child. You aren't supposed to bury your children. I do love my pets very much though. My old guy, you can see his picture here, is the last of our animals that knew my daughter, He still goes to her room sometimes to look for her. ANyone who says animals don't have emotions or know love never had a pet or doesn't have a heart themselves.

Bella is right, a cloned one would never be the same as the original.

Pets are like people, there's no two alike, no matter how much they favor each other.

Loving and caring for them while they are with us, is a special reward in itself.

Like losing a child, nothing can ever take their place !

I can see obvious deep feelings for pets, but my question would be, this... and I know i'll anger some and get harangued ... If a child's life and a pet's life were in danger, which would you save? Pets make lifelong, loving companions and are part of some folks' families, but they are, after all, animals. Let the missiles my way be let loose! lol

It's no contest,Damage - your child, of course !

Having lost both, I'll say : there's nothing worse than losing a child!

Just way too young to pass away. My sympathies to his family and to you. I lost a dear friend to breast cancer years ago and there isn't a day that goes by that I think about her. She was only 26. I don't want to feel that loss with a family member but I know that one day it will be. Death comes to us all, but for some it comes too early. Rest in peace dear friends and family.
