I have been watching the Olympics and besides being madly jealous of such huge athletic talent  I am deeply impressed by the effort the Chinese have put into this. While I don't agree with a great many of their policies I cannot help but be impressed with so much they have done. A nation wide effort to learn English, the meticulous planning that went into the opening ceremonies , All very impressive. I wonder if we Americans would go through anywhere close to what they have done? ?I think we need to remember that there are 1.25 BILLION of them and they are very focused/Can you see any of us much less a million or so trying to learn Chinese? AN interesting group.

I love that they are now saying the opening ceremonies were mostly fake.

The thing that angers me the most is that we've begun using "professional" athletes which I feel is totally unfair to the Amature athletes that have trained all their lives to go to the Olympics.

Momcat, do you know that the "training" you speak of was more than pagentry?

Those people were soldiers and trained over 1 year.

Please note that they are "compelled" to do things more than volunteer.

It is obvious to some that China is doing a great job of lying:
1. Fake fire works on opening night.
2. Have a "cute" little girl lip sinc while the "ugly" girl really sang the song.
3. Using 12 year old girls for their floor exercises and telling us they're really 16.

Protesters have been given 1 year labor camp sentences just today. They are not free at all there. No kudos.
