My friend Sammy sent this to me. I googled it it's true . There are multiple entries. It is disgusting

Bush / GOP Sarah Palin
This is finally it for me, the straw that has broken the proverbial moose’s
back! I thought maybe it would be her membership in "Feminists for
Life", the staggering amount of hypocrisy coming from her camp, her
daughter being the poster child for what happens when we teach our children
that birth control is dangerous, the stance on how her daughter's pregnancy is
a "family matter" we should all stay out of, but my private medical
decisions should be made by politicians, because they are not "family
matters"?
But no, none of that has enraged me as much as the most recent discovery
that while Sarah Palin was Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she charged rape survivors for their
rape kits.

A rape kit is a sexual assault forensic evidence kit, used to
collect DNA that can be used in criminal proceedings to assist in the
conviction of those who commit sex crimes.

The kit is performed as soon as
possible after a sexual assault or attack has been committed.

As a
general rule, rape survivors (nor victims of any other crime) are never charged
for collection of evidence.

While Palin was Mayor, survivors were charged between $300 - $1200 for rape
kits.

As someone who has been a long time volunteer at my local rape
crisis center, I have seen way too many rape kits administered over the
years. It is not a pleasant process for survivors, but more of a re-victimization.

And to be charged in order for the police department to collect the evidence,
is yet another re-victimization!
And to add insult to injury, once you have been through this traumatic
ordeal, then been charged for the police to collect the evidence, Sarah Palin
will have 1.

blocked the ER from allowing you to receive emergency
contraception before you leave so that you can make sure you are not
impregnated by your rapist and 2.

if you do become pregnant by your rapist, she
does not support your right to an abortion in the case of such violence.

NOTE: Gov. Tony Knowles signed a sexual assault bill to change this horrible policy in 2000.

Palin actually had rape victims charged for their own rape kits?

The survivors were charged between $300 - $1200 for rape kits?

She makes me sick in the pit of my stomach.

Was this a preexisting policy? Was she actually aware of the practice? From actually reading the Frontiersman article it says that they billed the insurance companies, since the tests were done in a hospital. As a person with extensive work in crime victim crisis counseling, a LOT of the rape calls we responded to were found to be false. Were these false rape claims that were being billed?

You're making something out of nothing. You won't even allow us to attack Obama for the actions of his campaign, how in turn can you attack a mayor for the actions of the police department? Is Tom Lepert to blame for the wrongs of the police chief?

Halfass reporting at best. There are a lot of questions that need to be asked.

I see questions, not excuses. It is so easy for people like you to poop on the blogs and then run away and never have to clean it up. You didn't answer a single one of the questions.

Your questions are pointless. If this was going on under her watch it's on her. If she didn't know about it she failed the people. Ethier way it shows her incompetency.

It was not a long standing policy it was in force only while she was mayor. She didn't just know about it she instituted it. She fired her first police chief, he was unpopular with the NRA, and put in her hand picked man, Together they came up with the whole sick policy. let's be honest: in a town of that size, the mayor doesn't get to plead ignorance of policies or public statements of her own chief of police."

Sorry strumpet, I was working at my job. Do you know what that is?

And from what I've read so far they billed insurance companies. The law was overturned and it was dropped. 'Nuff said.

My questions are legitimate questions that should be asked by reporters before printing an incomplete story. That's probably why no one but halfass websites have printed the story.

Why did Obama allow his campaigners to put port-o-potties on war memorials? Why did Obama allow his campaigners litter a Jewish holy site with Obama signs in Hebrew? Why did Obama all his campaigners to exclude muslims from the camera shots at a campaign event? Is he not responsible for his campaign?

Why would they charge at all? This is a forensic tool, One that is used to convict rapists. What about those poor women who didn't have insurance? Sorry we can't do a rape kit and find your rapist " or " Say, did you think to bring your checkbook after you were raped?" This is a bogus policy.
As for other reports ,as I have said before it all depends on what side of the line you stand on.

The time period in question 1996-1999 there were only 5 sexual assaults in Wasilla, AK reported to the Police. Gov. Palin has an 80% approval rating, doesn't sound like many people were disturbed about her. Maybe it's just scared liberals graping at straws.

Momcat,

They did the same thing for Rape victims they do for Traffic accident victims if Insurance or the victim can't pay the Hospital or the County eat the bill. Remember we have Illegal Aliens in Alaska draining the health care system.

Thank you Kestrel for the factoids. Maybe this is why no one has reported it in a reputable news source yet. The Democrats have dropped 30 lawyers in Wasilla to try to dig through Palin's trash for ANYTHING. This is the best they can do.

She has an 82% approval rating in a state that doesn't like the government in their affairs. I'm not sure what you're saying by "go thump your bibles" except that you're void of spiritual guidance.

I don't care if it was five or five hundred. Raoe is a horrible crime and one the VICTIM shouldn't have to pay for Further, I don't think illegals had anything to do with it other than some of you like to drag them into every single blog. As to reported rapes. Why bother to report if you don't have insurance? The police aren't going to be able to prove anything with out the rape kit you can't afford to pay for

Well, guess what? Henderson County charges for them too if they have insurance. But if they don't have insurance, they don't charge for any of the procedures involved.

I still haven't seen anything saying that they charged people without insurance. What is insurance for except for emergencies? You're blowing this out of proportion.
