Breaking News: Johnson Out As Dallas Head Coach April 30, 2008 - 2:12 pm ESPN -
The Dallas Mavericks fired Avery Johnson on Wednesday, a day following the team's second consecutive first-round exit from the NBA playoffs, ESPN.com has learned.

Johnson became Mavs coach during the 2004-05 season and walks away with a 194-70 record (.735), but only a 23-24 mark in the playoffs.

The Mavs have now lost 12 out of their last 15 postseason games after taking a 2-0 lead in the Finals against Miami.

Mark Cuban and Johnson engaged in an emotional argument after a March 18 home loss to the Lakers and sources indicated that Cuban actually considered firing Johnson before the playoffs.

Both the Mavs and Johnson wanted a speedy resolution to the situation so the coach could pursue current openings in Chicago and New York.

Get rid of Jason Kidd, who just had to come back to Dallas and screw things up for us. Avery was doing fine, until this trade with Kidd came along, whom, pretty much forced the deal anyway. The Mavs we did have did not want to be traded. Kidd is no longer a kidd, get rid of him!

Avery was doing "fine" until Kidd came along?

Hmmm...

Not quite...Kidd came because Cuban was losing faith in Avery.

Remember the "Avery's Team" t-shirt a month or so ago?

Yea, we knew what that meant now, dont we?

Anyway...

You are correct Valium....however, Kidd is not all that Cuban had thought....All that is Cuban doing Kidd a favor, those three we orginally had would have put us in the finals.

YES, I agree with the decision to fire Coach Avery Johnson, although I have always liked him as both a player & personality. The tough part about this for Mavericks fan's and Avery I believe, is that Coach Avery Johnson is going to succeed as a head Coach in the National Basketball Association, the unfortunate part for everyone is that in the situation as a rookie Coach that person usually always loses that rookie job, and it seems for all of the proper reason's for both sides that it occurs; the organization finds reason's related to poor performance leading to dismissal, and the rookie coach is going to learn "some needed lesson" that only occurs as a part of the firing experience, the finality it of departure perhaps, that will likely help him succeed in the next job. We've seen it before both in Sports and the business world, that the second, or third stop is the magical number as sad as reality would have it to be. Very few CEO's learn how to pull ALL of the lever's within a huge multi-national corporation on their first attempt, and that is what has happened here, there are NO hard feelings, no bitterness. Avery was given the head coaching gig by Mark Cuban, he is the ONLY NBA owner who would've been willing to turn his FRANCHISE over to a man with so little assistant coaching experience, Mark really genuinely liked and trusted Avery Johnson, and Avery for his part knows that he is "IN" as a coach in the NBA in some manner, and if not immediately in time will get another crack at running a team. These although edited, are the reason's both men continue forward feelin

Cuban will not want to rid the team of Kidd, the salary impact is too high. . .

I believe that Avery's firing is simply another racism within the Dallas based sports teams. As usual when the "MVP" Dirk chokes and doesn't perform (as his title would suggest). It is someone other than the true problem that takes the fall. Oh and by the way I am not a Mavericks or Cowboy fans.
This town's moral ethics have a lot to be desired.
Oh by the way GO LAKERS

I predicted this before the playoffs even started.
