Traveling is a passion of mine and that's why I was so drawn to the story I did today. Missionaries returning from a Kenyan village were ambushed, robbed and some of them beaten. Sounds horrible, and I'm sure they were terrified, but in that moment they stayed calm and prayed. Then out of no where on that dark, deserted road a delivery truck drove toward them and their captors suddenly decided the holdup was over. The missionaries believe God most certainly heard their prayers and answered them. The incident ultimately cut their trip short, but the missionaries vow to return to Kenya and finish what they started.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had a bad experience while traveling abroad. How did you react? Did it change your feelings about that country/the people? Have you returned since?

i've never really left the country....the only time i did...i went to Juarez Mexico, during a trip to El Paso....i bought a chrome switchblade with a pearl handle....it got confiscated at the border....funny thing is...they were making everyone put their banned items in large can....but the customs guy stuck my switchblade in his back pocket...(hmmmmm?).... i'll betcha a hundred pesos he kept it...at least thats what i think....i got to keep my velvet Elvis and a bottle of Mezcal though, so its all good... :)

PS...Natalie..if you haven't seen it..check out a movie called "The End of the Spear"...its a pretty good movie about missionaries traveling abroad...

I traveled abroad on Uncle Sam's dime. Germany, France, Austria. I never got held up. But, was too young and naive to know when I was very close to trouble. That's how 22 year olds are. Now I cringe to think about it. I'm sure if I had had my block knocked off, I might have learned a lesson. As far as missionaries, I suppose you have to do what God tells you to do. I think many people though use pretty poor judgment putting themselves in harms way in unusual and dangerous situations. I would think long and hard about it before I would take my family into these situations. It's bad enough here in your own country, trying to keep from getting car-jacked and such.

yes, I was once in Dallas and saw the dirt of the city and figured it was like another country cause no place in America could ever go so low.

Same can be said for most major American cities

Hello Everyone. I have the honor of co-anchoring the weekend news with Richard Ray and I report three days a week. I truly love what I do and I think this is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know each other better. A couple of factoids about me...Dancing is a passion of mine, right next to eating good food, traveling and spending time with my family.
