Some people call it the flu, my mother likes to call The Crud. The Crud includes a chest-ripping cough accompanied by an excruciating headache and my favorite...all over body aches with an alternately drippy/stuffy nose. I've spent the last 4 full days in bed with chills and feeling all around miserable which seems to indicate I had a classic case of the Crud. (Although truth be told, my doctor says it could also be bronchitis...good times, right) Anyway, I'm seriously not looking for sympathy (well maybe I was back on day 2 of the Crud) but now that I'm finally getting over it, I'm more curious as to who else has gotten it...and how long it took them to get rid of it. Did you get on an antibiotic? And is it just me or was Walgreens crawling with other sick people?? I feel like everyone's getting the Crud.

Take it from me, if you haven't gotten it (yet), you may want to go out and get your Crud, I mean, flu shot ASAP!

I had it back at the first of the month when we had all that windy cold weather. I didn't bother going to the doctor for antibiotics. What worked for me was Benadryl (very effective for the post-nasal drip at night), Walgreen's brand of cold & sinus pills (you have to show your drivers license to the pharmacist to get this), ibuprofen, zinc throat lozenges, chicken broth, oj and 7 up, plenty of bed rest and drink lots of water also. I'd gotten my flu shot, too, lot of good that did.

I haven't gotten it, thank goodness. It's been going around our office. People are coughing, sneezing, hacking, aching and all around feeling miserable. Some have called it bronchitis, some have called it the flu, others call it The Crud, and still others call it Sinus Infection. Take your choice.

This has been going on for the last 3 months. I've gotten to where I take multi-vitimins every day, along with extra Vitamin C, and drink plenty of OJ, just as a preventative.

Part of the problem stems from no humidity in the air. When you're in your house, with the heater on, it dries the humidity out of the air. This, in turn, dries out your sinuses, which leads to all kinds of other stuff. I try to keep the air humidified, when it gets cold, to prevent some of this from happening.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Follow squirrel's directions, and it should help.

I am so sorry you are sick. Count me in. I've had it a FULL two weeks now. And yes I had a FLU SHOT. What I hear on the news is that there is a different strain of flu that is not covered with the flu shot. I don't think I have the flu but who knows.

I can tell you this. If you start to feel better, stay in bed another day or two. Or else you will feel worse than you did. My cough is so bad I keep expecting a lung to fly out of my mouth.

Join the club, Natalie! Did you get it from Clarice? She blogged about having it too. I've been sick with mine all week. Went to the dr on Wed & got a good antibiotic. Hot tea with lemon & honey is very good; I try to have a cup of it every night. Vick's VapoRub (I like the non-greasy kind) helps you breathe easier at night & thus helps you get that much needed rest. My youngest had it last week, so I think I caught it from her. Now it looks like my oldest might be coming down with it. Yikes!! Hope you get well fast!

Knock wood I have dodged this so far. But some of my students have been out for entire week's worth of classes and they come back with bad coughs, fatigue and generally blah. Strangely enough, when my son had this "thing" I absolutely could not be sick because it was during final exams. I too osccillum (sp?)-with trepidation and doubt. It's a homeopathic remedy and I will say that I never came down with the virus, which is pretty unusual for me.

Are you any relation to Susy Solis who works for channel 5 or NBC? I only watch their news on Saturday after Fox is done with theirs.

Wow! Seems like everyone has it, has gotten it, is getting over it, or knows someone with it.

I don't think I got it from Clarice. I know she was out sick, but I hadn't seen her much before then. All I remember is last Sunday during the 9pm show I kept having to cough and clear my throat during commercial breaks. I told Richard I thought maybe I had breathed in some poweder in the makeup room.

By about 1pm Monday afternoon, I was in bed with the chills, etc. and it was only down hill from there.

I've been kicking myself for not getting a flu shot, but now after hearing from so many bloggers, it doesn't seem like it would have done me much good.

The hardest part of being sick is being stuck in the house for days on end. I know I need the rest, but enough already! Not to mention, the house needs a major cleaning. You know when you're sick, you're too weak to clean, much less care about the dishes stacking up.

I had it TWICE !!! yuck. It went thru my house and I had gotten it again. It took about 2 weeks each time to feel better. I had clear drainage both times so I did not get antibiotics. Just alot of liquids, vit c and a good 'ol hot toddy !!!
And...I have to mention I did get the flu shot. What a drag...Hope you feel better !!!

If you are around kids a lot, you will surely get it. I have avoided it so far this year. I had a flu shot in November, get plenty of rest, and take a good multivitamin and other nutritional supplements. I've noticed since retiring and I am no longer in the office setting or use public transportation, I have fewer episodes of the "crud". I also stay away from crowds and wash my hands frequently during the flu season. It all helps.

I had the "CRUD" a few weeks ago, Natalie. And, I was surprised at having come down with it. I rarely get sick. Oh gosh, I was miserable. Coughing, chills, throwing up, headaches...the works!

It took about four or five days before I started to feel a little better. And still, I have a lingering cough going on.

I'm glad you're feeling better...

Hello Everyone. I have the honor of co-anchoring the weekend news with Richard Ray and I report three days a week. I truly love what I do and I think this is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know each other better. A couple of factoids about me...Dancing is a passion of mine, right next to eating good food, traveling and spending time with my family.
