The city of Arlington has Pleasant Ridge closed for construction, and it is a mess right now. I really feel sorry for the people that live in the construction areas. There are some alternate routes for them, but those routes are very time-consuming. This has been one of my favorite detours when there have been major wrecks on I-20. I always liked this street anyway, because it is pretty and tree lined. A lot of the trees have been taken down.
It will not be complete until January 2010.
I get to work on New Years eve and I don't want to meet you at work! I do have a selfish motivation for wanting fewer arrests. It is less work for me.
You would have to be living in a bubble to not know that New Years eve is the day of DWI and public intoxication arrests.
The easiest way to avoid an arrest is to not drink OR do anything risky.
People that have the funds to do it, rent hotel rooms and sleep it off after partying at the same hotel. This is not reality for most people.
We get lots of people that come to jail on public intoxication because their designated driver was arrested for DWI. Think ahead! Is your designated driver going to be drinking? If you observe your driver drinking, call a cab! Try to get your driver to ride with you. If he/she will not take the cab with you, go alone! It is better to have one less arrest!
I am alarmed at how drinks have been supersized as much as our restaurant meals. One large frozen margarita can bring my BAC up to 0.060! That is the equivalent of three 12 oz beers.
In the state of Texas if your BAC is 0.080 or higher, you are considered intoxicated. Your body will only lose 0.020 of alcohol per hour. I would have to wait for three hours after having that large frozen margarita to have the alcohol out of my system.
Lots of folks don't think that they are intoxicated unless they are staggering. I have actually seen people that vomited and/or urinated on themselves that insisted that they were not drunk. The first thing to go is judgement when a person becomes intoxicated. It also becomes very difficult to focus on more than one thing at a time.
If you are taking any kind of medications, please read your labels and the drug information that comes with your meds. Many medications enhance the effect of alcohol. You can be arrested for taking a medication alcohol combination or even taking medication and driving. Hydrocodone seems to be our biggest problem. If you combine hydrocodone with alcohol, it has a synergistic effect. The combined effect is more than double the effect of taking two doses of either alcohol by itself or two doses of hydrocodone by itself.
Please don't become a statistic this New Years eve.
Don't drink and drive!
I would like to meet you, but not at work!
I went to visit relatives on Christmas Eve. There are two houses that are pretty close together. When I left one house to go to the other, I decided to go on South Cooper Street. (((My family thought that I overdosed on stupid pills))) Maybe they were right this time!!
As I went past the Wal-Mart Super Center, I looked at the very full parking lot and was glad that I was not in that store. I had to stop for a driver that was zigzagging across three lanes. That was very scary! After that driver made a left turn to terrorize drivers on another street, I drove past The Parks Mall. The parking lot was full there too. I could not believe that people were shopping that late on Christmas eve. I'm sure glad that I was not one of them.
I don't enjoy being in crowds, because I've seen the end results of stress caused by last minute decisions. I was horrified when I witnessed a woman slug another woman at a Sam's Club, last summer. It began as a very loud argument! I don't want any part of that.
I don't actually shop early just because I'm a that much of a super organized person. I do it more out of fear of crowds. People panic and do strange things when they are at the end of their deadlines!
Has anyone else observed strange and stressed behavior in crowds?
night driving!

Traffic
I get to commute to work at night. The traffic is usually much lighter, but there is a different set of problems. I learned a very long time ago that it is very dangerous to drive in the bar/restaurant area of any city. A person is taking a very big chance with all of the drunks on the streets. I can’t count the times that I have had to slow down, speed up, swerve or stop for a drunk driver. There is one street that I avoid, because there have actually been drunks lying in the street. I have also had to dodge pedestrians that are walking across the street.
One of the stranger things that I have observed is a motorized wheelchair in the middle of the street. I saw this on a very dark street and if it were not for a tiny reflector on the back of the wheelchair, I would have hit the handicapped person. I have also seen bicycle riders that did not have appropriate reflectors or lights.
There was a time when I used to go out grocery shopping on my nights off. I’m too afraid to do that now.
