You drivers out there that are talking on a cell phone, watching your GPS, eating a hamburger, while your drinking a beer, reading a book, putting on your makeup, at 85 miles per hour, need to realize something. YOUR KILLING PEOPLE!!!!! You need to watch the road ahead of you. Another Police Officer was killed yesterday and I hear almost dailey of someone runing into someone else because they are not paying attention, or drinking, etc.

The main reason for this problem is that there are too many distactions in vehicles now days. Combine that with 80-90 miles per hour speeds that people are driving. Then ad the five star crash ratings on these new vehicles with front and side air bags. People are driving like they are invincible. Maybe we should add rear air bags on cars, so that when one of these idiots (and you know who you are) rear ends us, it might save our lives.

You hit on one of my peeves. I HATE seeing people drive with a phone to their ear. I have a cell phone but I NEVER use it when I'm driving. My out going message reflects that, "Sorry I missed your call but I'm driving. Leave a message & I'll call you back when I get out of the car."

I don't even mess with the stereo when I'm driving.

My husband teases me often about my driving habits. He says I'm overly cautious and overly careful. And he's right. I take driving very seriously. Maybe it's because I was in an accident 14 yrs ago? It scared me so bad I didn't drive for 13 years. Maybe I grew up? Maybe it's as simple as me respecting my clean driving record and wanting to keep it that way? Who knows... But I wish I saw more people like me on the roads!

I took a very unscientific survey one afternoon. There's a large parking lot right next door to my house and at quitting time, there's a long line of cars leaving that lot.

I stood on the lawn and watched 90% of those cars leave. By actual count, 75% of the female drivers were already talking on a cell phone when they drove past me. Only one in four of the males were doing so....but that's not good, either!

And who were these people?

Every single one of them is employed by the Keller ISD.

I wanted to put a sign on my lawn that says "Hang Up And Drive".

that police officer was killed because the guy was drinking, which is differant than "multi-tasking".

unfortunately even the most alert driver gets into deadly accidents because matter of fact driving is so boring and so easy that the mind simpy does not pay attention every second that you are driving. and it's even worse when you are tired, the mind wants to sleep. it's always amazed me that driving at the risk of killing yourself is not enough for the mind to stay awake. it's like the mind says , "kill myself? I don't care, I'm getting some shut eye! NOW!"

another peeve of mine is how in the heck do people wreck in a straight line? everybodys going in the same direction and still wreck!!!!!!!!

I confess, I am the worst multi-tasker I know while driving and I have been driving for 40 years and have not even come close to causing a wreck or not having enough awareness to avoid other people's crappy driving. it's not a style of drving that suits everybody.

but the 5 star crash rating is after the fact. we don't need cars with more air bags, we need cars that don't get into wrecks in the first place. with modern sensors and lasers they need to invent cars that stay out of accidents in the first place. after all, human error will always play a large factor ,for any reason, untill we reduce that aspect

Did you see the experimental highway that runs your car from point A to point B using magnets? It was really neat! They had 5 cars in a row going the speed limit down the highway. Each of the cars had someone behind the wheel but one was sleeping, one had a briefcase in his lap, another was shaving....

The last I heard, it was still in the experimental stages but they are looking into ways to eliminate the human error factor. The thing that concerns me is; eleminate human error and you leave room for computer error. I don't know that I could allow a computer to do my driving for me. I'm no control freak but... That would just feel odd, ya know? :)
