I don't know a thing about NASCAR, but will someone explain to me why Texas Motor Speed Way schedules races in the month of April. Do they not have a choice?

This is the only month in Texas that you can depend on for more severe weather than any other month in the Spring. April is notorous for severe storms, lightning, high winds, hail and tornados.

It is just a matter of time before a major storm comes through TMS and destroys billions in motor homes. All these rich fans that can afford to take off from work for a week and drive their expensive motor homes to the race are going to make my insurance rates go sky high when this happens. The insurance claims will be unreal.

The people will take refuge in safe places under the race way and be okay and they won't worry about the motor homes that are getting pounded by the storm. They might even be happy with an insurance claim so they won't have to put 4.00 a gallon fuel in those gas guslers any more. Can you tell I'm not a race fan?

I'm sorry NASCAR fans, just set back in your lawn chair and have another beer, and enjoy your time off. I guess I'm just jealous because I can't afford to blow that kind of money. I got to get back to work now.

You started out asking a legitimate question and ended up bashing NASCAR fans for what you perceive is "how they are".

I've been a NASCAR fan since the age of 14 (nearly five decades!) and don't fit into any of those descriptors above.

I'll answer your original question: No, TMS does not have much of any control over race dates. If a race date becomes available (which is extremely rare), many tracks put in a bid - to NASCAR - for that date. TMS was fortunate to get two race dates - one in the Spring and the other in November. I doubt that Texas weather had any bearing...other than it wasn't likely to be snowing.

You can attend the races at a very reasonable price. I haven't missed one in years!

I must confess that I knew a family that was ran off of their family home and land in the name of progress when TMS was built. I see this a lot on the News where families are removed from their homes for Race Tracks and Football stadiums or other sports arenas.
No one can really imagine how they would feel until it happened to them.

I guess deep down that is my problem with all that takes place in the name of sports and intertainment and the billions we spend on it. My heart goes out to all the people that are displaced this way.

Nothing personal KK, we all love to be intertained. After all we would all rather go to a Race than help someone move all their worldly belongings to a new location because they had no choice.

This has very little to do with the weather at TMS, I must confess. But thanks for letting me vent. Have a great day.

It is called progress and if we didn't move a few folks from their areas we'd never progress. In fact, you could make that same argument from the start of the industrial revolution.
