I was a little ticked off this morning about a story we had about a 2nd grade teacher who appeared on the Howard Stern Show in a bikini.

Here’s part of the story from the Foxnews.com:

“SOUTHINGTON, Conn. —  A former second-grade teacher who resigned after making an appearance in a bikini on the "Howard Stern Show" is suing Southington school officials and her union.  Marie Jarry, who resigned abruptly in May after taking a paid sick day to appear on the shock jock's satellite show, claims she was forced into resigning.”

My take on this is she should have been fired.  But most of those who responded on our poll question this morning did not agree with me and sided with her saying, she should be able to teach 2nd grade and appear in a bikini on the Howard Stern Show?

How am I wrong?  Would you want your seven year old look up to her teacher who does something like this?

Rick

First off, I don't believe her students were with her when she made this appearance on Howard Stern and therefore should not be aware of what she did. That is unless the student's parents allowed them to watch Howard Stern on TV or, the parents told their children about it. I wouldn't even let my kids know there is a show like Howard Stern. It probably was not broadcast into the school either so that removes that concern. My concern is she lied and took a sick leave day to do this and was not sick. That does not make it a termination situation but it does require some sort of discipline.
Essentially, she was on her own time, not breaking any laws and did not involve any students. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time watching the cruddy Howard Stern, who will stoop to anything to promote his warped mind ideas.

Rick DeMico, you are not wrong!
You apparently have a better 'value of quality' within yourself than do those voting on the poll (particularly, regarding children).

It is truly a shame how some people generally seem to be degenerating to such low depths for the sake of a vain and lower quality life style in preference to become 'attracting' to the least valued elements of our society. But, it appears through these current times, more and more individuals are shedding values for 'tainted fame and money'.

Without concern for any moral value, some individuals will do anything for their personal display of attention . So many 'freakish' individuals seem to be crawling out of the woodwork during this current time more than ever before.

It is a 'social sickness', I fear. It's a wonder how a person as is this person (Marie Jarry, a 2nd grade teacher) who appeared on the Howard Stern Show in a bikini, qualified to be a teacher in the first place. For as I understand it, people are given a psychological test prior to being hired. This same puzzle exist regarding all the other former teachers who have been in the news recently owing to their deviant sexual exploits. Their motives are their's alone!

It does not matter if the students seen her exhibition displayed or not; and no doubt it would not have been displayed in the school(s) except by a twisted fluke.

The fact is, she is not a decent type of a person that I would allow to teach or even be near any child. Her values are unstable as she is, apparently.

You are correct. You value decency;not m

So what is the difference if she wore the same thing on vacation, or to a pool, or out to tan? Sounds to me like it is just because she was on a sleaze show who likes to degrade women in general! So my take is WHO CARES! I personally don't care what teachers, principals, or any other official do in THEIR OWN TIME as long as it is not illegal.. I have values, morals, manners and everything else, but this is going to far, it is taking her agency away from her to do what she pleases on her own time.

Somewhere In America there are a lot of 2nd grade teachers that meet the expectations of their customers both internal and external alike and have other "Quality" minded ways and means of meeting their goals too.

The school has one Quality minded ways and means of education and as an individual it is okay to possess different "qualities" to meet other expectations in life. Like your own expectations, and maybe that is being on the Howard Stern Show as yourself. All the while meeting yet another expectation of yourself just not others. You feel in conformance with your goals, and expectations for yourself. Nothing wrong with that. It is a good Quality regardless of your job status or job capacity.

So who cares! As long as the teacher meets the expectations set by the school that he or she teache and instruct on the level of expectations set forth by the school. If your 2nd grader is watching Howard Stern, then maybe it's time to recognize your own personal expectations.

Her price for nonconformance was being fired. Her price for conformance was knowing that she can meet other expectations but at a cost! Schools need to define what they're expectations both internal and external alike!
That school sold "hypocracy" on it's shelves!
Rick just bought some if it was store!

Now the school will be sued and pay for it's nonconformance to it's on policies and procedures, because there is no return on hypocracy, just pain!

Get real Troy.....
Where did you seep in from with that brilliant comment. The ISSUE is not the 'dress code of the day' but the value of one's CHARACTER.
As a newsman you should have caught that.

You missed it totally!
Should give you reason to better analyze!

If she wasn't on school time then it's her business. I know a teacher that is a Stripper and she does the dress codes on students at her school. It's the same as the News Anchor from Channel 12, she posed for playboy and got canned for it. It was none of the stations business just as this is none of the schools business. It was either some old fuddy duddy stuffed shirt that complained or some religious idiot. It reminds me of this saying. Stay in your backyard and leave my yard to me.

Atm...I think the point that we are trying to get across is that she was on her own time! It's not as if Howard Stern was in her 2nd grade class taping his show with the teacher in her bikini. I am a religious person, but I am not one to take away someone free right to do as they please in THEIR OWN TIME.
So does her being on Howard Stern make her any less of a teacher? Obviously not since she has probably worn that same bikini to the pool out in public and no one cared til she went on some sexist pig show!

As long as this teacher does not introduce irrational ideas of sex and lust into the school system, she can do whatever she wants on her own time. That is a protected right.

I do not believe she failed to follow her school district's policy when she made this appearance on Howard Stern, so why should she be forced to resign.

This is a valid civil suit.

ATM is it your opinion that every 2nd grade teacher, everywhere is absolutely perfect? Do you have the privledge of doing what you want to do on your own time without someone tellng you that you cannot? That's called infringement on privacy and it is what you are doing with your comments. What's next "Thought Police?" Good luck on finding any 2nd grade teacher that is perfect.

She was on her own time, and it was a bikini for cryin' out loud. Such prudes you are, and sounds like someone needs something to do!! Always beware of those who protest a little too much....absolutely laughable, and sad at the same time.

rick,
1.why are you upset that she appeard on a SATELLITE RADIO SHOW (unless it appears on the telly) where no one can see her?
2. unless she is promoting the school she works at, what did she do wrong? she just appeared in front of sleazebag stern in a bikini. who cares?
3. she did nothing wrong and this wouldn't have been known unless it is a slow morning news day. the school was out of line unless it is in her contract that she cannot wear a bikini.

Let's get Rick on the morning show in a thong.
THEN compare it to a 2nd grade teacher. What do you think, Troy????

You know I'm mixed on this. If she were in a bikini at the beach I wouldn't give it a second thought but she was in a bikini on Howard Stern's show.

My kids don't listen to Howard Stern, probably don't know who he is but we all know his shows are very sexual in nature. That's the part that gets me.

I just don't know how I feel. I think about the 2nd grade teachers at my kids school and I know I wouldn't want them going on Howard Stern's show so if parents are upset about it then I understand how they feel.

The main issue I have is that she took a paid sick day to conduct personal business.

Paid sick days are (in my work anyway) granted out of compasion because we don't want someone to have to use a vacation day when they fall ill. Being sick is no vacation.

If we find that someone calls in "sick" so they can go play golf (or whatever) they are in jeapordy of losing their job. That is grounds for immediate termination, regardless of whether they're playing golf, or appearing on Fox News, or yaking it up with Jerk Stern.

She shirked her responsibilities to the children under her care for her 15 minutes of fame - Shame on her, now she needs to find an employer who will allow her to do what she pleases, when she pleases.

Good luck on that one.

She got what was coming to her.
