I’m moving!  Kind of.   Beginning August 18th, I will be stepping down from the 5 am to 7 am hours of Arizona Morning.  I’ll be coming in a 7 am and co-hosting the show from 7 to 9 with Alexis and Ron and co-hosting with Andrea the new 9 am to 10 am hour.  Ron, Alexis and Cory will also be a big part of the new 9 to 10 am hour.

I have three reasons for writing this.  One is I’ve been getting a lot of questions about what’s going on – on our show.  Two is I want you all to know that we will have an additional hour at 9 am!  And three, I have mixed emotions about leaving the 5 to 7 am hours.

I have really enjoyed working with Ron and Alexis, Cory and Andrea and the wonderful producers during the first two hours.  I’ll miss sitting at the anchor desk with them the first thing in the morning.

However, I’m really excited about adding an hour at 9 am.  It will be a little more relaxed and fun and informative.

And, instead of getting out of bed at 2:44 in the morning, I’ll be getting out of bed at 4:44 am!  An extra two hours of sleep!

5 to 10 on Fox 10 begins August 18th!

I can’t wait!

Rick

If you would like to improve your ratings, promote ethnicity on your morning show like Channel 3 and Channel 12 does.

Just be and promote yourself.

Please don't promote ethnicity agendas; very poor racist advice!

(Dictator out of the woodwork diplomacy) NADA!

Why is it that Channel 10 doesn't have any black people on the show! Where is the Color of Light at. I mean, the show is slow as is, comical at times, but we watch it because it's local and at times it's first. But why no black anchors on the show. Also, why is it that the news is the same news as yesterday. So much repeating of the same news. Like the news on the Monkey who took the gun away. Everyday for a week, well that isn't news, or entertainment news. What no brown eyes, or brown skin anchors in Arizona. Affirmative Action already over in Arizona. John McCain is fast one day he's for it, the next day, 100,000 lobbyist payday later he isn't for it. But that was fast.

Only a racist would care what color skin a news anchor or reporter is. I want quality TRUE reporting. I don't care what race they are. We don't need a token minority. I like Linda Williams and Isis Romero as well as anyone else. Who gives a flip if they are not on the morning show?
Rick, I usually leave for work about 7AM, so I will rarely see you anymore. I get a weekday off now and then and have to work a lot of Saturdays. I will try to catch you when I can. (Mainly to gawk at Andrea though!)
Hope the new hours work out well with you.

KenOfAZ, I think you went a little over board on you comment about being racist. Who do you say is a racist? Let it all out of your system.

I’m proud of our diversity at Fox-10. Our newsroom has conservatives and liberals, and a whole lot of independents! We have all races and ethnic backgrounds represented both off the air and on. Some of our highest profile anchor/reporters are Linda Williams, Yetta Gibson, Isis Romero and Mark Martinez.

We have, in my humble opinion, the best anchors, the best reporters, the best producers, best production staff and best management. Both sexes, all races, a wide variety of political views, are represented in all levels.

Alexis and I, by the way, are Italian. Brown skin, and brown eyes!

Congratulations, enjoy the chance to sleep in.

Please don't let the extra hour be another hour of "Americam Idol" segments.

Of the responses on this topic I am talking about ISFLatino and Cagedvoter.
They seem to want a minority just for the reason that they want a minority. That is racist. FOX should put people on the air for their talent, not their race. If the best they can get are all Black, or all Hispanic, or all White, or all Asian, or a mix, who cares? Only a racist wants a specific race. A NONracist does't care what their race is. FOX should get the people they think are the best. Their race shouldn't be a factor.
Same thing in the presidential run. It doesn't matter to me that Obama isn't White like me. I only care what he stands for. I don't give a rip about his race. I don't like what he stands for. McCain is the same race as I am, and I think he is an idiot. Not because of his race. Because what he stands for.
Equal rites for everyone. Special rights for nobody. OK, now it's outta my system.

I guess some people don't pay much attention who does the news on Fox. Other wise the comment of diversity wouldn't have been made. You should always watch 12 if your not happy with Fox 10.

KenOfAZ you need not get to upset. You could have a heart attack.

Ken, I agree with you. I want a good reporter regardless of color.

There are many Hispanic reporters on Fox. Does ISF even watch this channel? If he is not happy maybe he should tune into a Latino channel.

Most reporters put in their 'time on the street' before they become an anchor person, that is where they hone their skills.

KenofAZ,

Did I ever say that the Fox10news morning team was no good in their profession? They are excellent journalists and report the news accurately and with admirable presentation. What I am arguing is the fact that I have been watching this morning show since 2001 when I was on leave from the military and I have never seen a person who is Latino, African-American, Asian, or Arabic open the show or give the news with ron and rick. As far as I can remember all of the women selected over the years have always had the same characteristics; blonde and of a white complexion. The men are the long time veterans of the show and they deserve their spot on the program but I feel that there should be some diversity every once in a while on this show. Seeing the same people each day tunes a viewer out. It does not matter how many jokes they entertain or how much historic trivia they seem to know, there should always be a fresh face to liven things up. That is my opinion as a longtime viewer.

Rick

Believe me when I say this; Your news channel and its staff are regarded, in my opinion, as the best in the business. Out of all of the news channels in the valley, Fox10news has the best on-the-spot reporting. They also have the most experienced news anchors.

However, your morning show desperately needs a qualified individual who can promote and bring in a wider range of viewers. I can assure you that if you guys were to do this, the program would increase in popularity and would erase any negative impressions felt by the Latino, African-American, Asian, and Arab/Middle Eastern communities. This is my opinion as a longtime viewer.

scooterwilliams,

Being that I am person who is pursuing a career in political science, "not computer Science" as my profile says, I am interested in learning all the facets of journalism. I like to watch all of the local news channels when I can. Each channel is sure to report their gathered information differently and I observe how they present this information.

As I said on my last blog entry, Fox10news, is by far the best news channel in Maricopa County, with ABC15 chasing right behind them. My favority anchor at Fox10news is John Hook because he exemplifies perfection in his newscasts and his Newsmaker Sunday show is a must to watch.

Tazaz,

I will honestly tell you that I do watch "latino" channels such as Univision and Telemundo. I have many disagreements with the way they present their news information. The way the avoid local news to only focus on immigration issues or the fact that they provide more information about news happening in Mexico, Central and South America than of Arizona. I understand why they do it: the majority of their viewers are latino and have families living in latin-American countries. However, they should focus on giving the local news first before anything else and they neglect to do so.

I am also aware that there are latinos working at Fox10news. However, none of them work or present the news on the "morning show". That is what we have been blogging about.

By-way-of qualifying ISFLatino's remarks, ISFLatino tends to be toning it down a bit now. But the self-assertion is made here that perhaps ISFLatino wants FOX10 to become an immigrant-station; a generating platform promoting more illegal-immigration.

FOX is doing fine on its own!
Enjoy your new spot Rick and continue as you are!
