We're doing a story this morning about how people feel living near a nuclear power plant.

A survey by Rasmussen shows it's pretty favorable. How do you feel about living downwind of the nation’s largest nuclear power plant?

Let me know.

Rick

Truely classic of course their would be protestors.Let me see upon my view it's ship in or ship out.Not much thaught but if people want nuclear power i guess it would be o.k.Hopefully wind power would catch up after all one of the worlds leading billionare in the oil industry is investing in such resources.Do the research if you must i had came accross the article in abc news.

Rick nuclear power is much more stable than 20 or so years ago. TMI had a problem way back in the 80's I believe it was but overall it wasn't as bad as it could have been like Chernobyl. Our govenment regulates and inspects much better than other countries and the technology is much better than when they first started building them.

One thing for sure is this country needs to do something to alliviate our usage of oil and nuclear, solar and clean coal technology should be used. We have more coal than any other country in the world and coal is relatively inexpensive to produce power with. Regards,

NUCLEAR POWER TO GO WITH NUCLEAR WAR. STAND BY AND WATCH IT HAPPEN, VERY SOON. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH ONE OF THE RUNNERS GETS INTO THE WHITE HOUSE. NO THANKS TO IP DAILY OUT BEHIND THE BUSHES.

Other than oil/natural gas power plants, nuclear is the next best alternative. Coal comes in fourth.

Solar and wind are less viable alternatives because they are unreliable and would require traditionally powered plants as a constant backup. Geothermal is very expensive to build and would be in unstable areas.

We have nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers that have had zero accidents due to the nuclear power plant. They've been operating for many years without incident.

We've been trying to develop alternative sources for over thirty years. Our success rate isn't very good.

Finally, yes, I would not be worried about a nuclear power plant in my back yard. Bring it on.

Some of the foods we eat is probably more dangerous than living next to a nuclear power plant.

Yet, I still wouldn't want to see one when I open my curtains in the morning.

I think it is pretty safe. I think the only problem we would ever have is if a terrorist blew it up somehow. I understand it can handle a jet crashing into it without leaking. But the twin towers were said to be able to handle a jet crash too.

A side note. I was in AZ and of voting age way back when they built the Palo Verde Nuke plant. We had to vote to see if we wanted it. One reason I voted for it was because they said nuke power would make the price of electricity cheaper. Hmm, why is SRP CHEAPER than APS?

I'd feel better about it if APS weren't running it, their track record is less than stellar.

Rick, I worked with a guy named Rasmussen @
Rand Corp. (under military science contract). Same guy?
When ever he'd entered a room, everyone noticed him.
He was gifted with a glowing personality.
Talk about being bright!
He was one of the brightest people you could ever hope to meet!
When he states, 'it's okay to live down-wind from a nuclear power facility',
you can almost bet it is somewhat safe; for he should know!
He's experienced in the dynamics of radio-activity ..... thus, being the only person
to receive several 10,000 mSv (10 sieverts) whole-body doses
and surviving over and over again from dangerous Ionising-radiation.
He has been referred to as one of the 'enlightened ones'.
If you were specifically of mind to ask me personally
if living in the 'flow' of such possible danger,
I might step forward and say,
"Who Me?"

Build more nuke plants. OH, how far is downwind? and which way is downwind?

The walls of the containment buildings at PVNGS are concrete, 4 feet thick, and reinforced with an unbelievable amount of re-bar.
Chernobyl had no containment building. The reactor was housed in what amounted to a tin shed.
I'd worry more about living downwind from Maryvale than I would Palo Verde.

I'm pretty happy with the safety record of Nuclear power plants, especially Palo Verde. Been here 21 years - no problems.

Rick, wasn't Palo Verde virtually on the verge of being shut down if they didn't clean up their act? Seems that was just recently.

Does it really matter if the Russian/Georgia war goes nuclear and it leads to WW-III? Of course a small limited nuclear exchange might be good in the long run.

Radiation cannot be contained indefinitely!

What happens to all the radio-active waste?

It has to go somewhere!

Who's back-yard is it going to be stored in???

sorry atm i live by the power plant and i'm feeling a little out of touch! LOL LOL LOLI don't want it stored in my backyard"NIMBY" ok lets just send it to Nevada and store it in that underground facility they have built into a mountain!

What? They had to shut down reactors a few times in the last 5 years! Pay attention!
give you one guess where the waste goes and it's closer to your own backyards than you think!
