I've joked about this in the past.  And it would be a constant source of laughs, if the government wasn't wasting so much of your money.  I'm talking about the so-called "virtual fence."

Now comes a report that all work on the fence has come to a screeching halt, because the Interior Department hasn't signed off on it.  This is typical government red tape that we see all the time...and which leads many Americans to think many people within the bureacracy don't care about getting anything accomplished.  They just want to keep their cushy government jobs.  If more paperwork can be pushed, if more decisions can be delayed...well, then...that's just job security.

But...you may be thinking...didn't the building of the fence get fast track authority from Congress?  Yes.  But that only applies to building the real fence, which by the way, will be the only thing that works...not this kooky star wars style border project that has been a joke from the start.

So, you're reading this right.  If they were just going to build a real fence, the job would be humming along right now, and voters might begin to believe their government can get something accomplished.  But since someone, somewhere along the way got sold this ridiculous "virtual fence" project...and since it wasn't included in the fast track authority...work has come to a grinding halt.  And will probably get lost in paperwork forever.

The honorable thing to do would be for every high level government offiicals who approved this laughingstock of a project to resign...and maybe even reimburse taxpayers for this foolhardy decision.  Instead, you will see that no one will take responsiblity.  And as a result...you'll also see that no fence will ever be built along huge chunks of the border.

Ron, I agree completely, I don't understand what is wrong with an actual fence? I never believed in the so called "virtual fence" the trespassers would just use a "virtual latter" to climb it!!

Im going to guess Ron that this "Virtual Fence" was some congressman "earmark project" that was some how inserted into the building of the REAL fence to make him/her(congressman) and his friends and even some family member VERY RICH. And now that they have deciced that the "virtual fence" is useless they put a stop to the whole "building of the fence" project. In the mean time the "money" has already been spent and I betcha dollar for dollar if you follow the money trail it will lead right to the congressman who placed the "earmark".

You're right Ron, huge chunks will not be built. It is apparent by our government's actions that they don't really want to get a handle on the whole illegal immigration issue. Anything they do in my eyes is completely a facade. Our own Mayor and Governor should serve as perfect examples of that. Corporate America loves these folks, it saves them billions of dollars. Make no mistake, it's all about the money.

All those 2006 congressional seats are up for grabs again!!!

This time, rather than simply voting out incumbents, Americans should look closely at all the options.

Hold on now Hooner there is a serious flaw in your argument (not that I would be opposewd mind you)

What? I know you disclaim it but to even suggest that a government offiical would have honor is just to silly.

If our government wanted to end illegal immigration, they could have done it long ago. Makes you wonder if there is a one world government somewhere calling the shots.

Ron--You should probably research this a lil bit before you make a post with outlandish claims. Already, our border agents are finding holes cut in the fence they just put up along with ladders and ropes that are assisting border jumpers. Not to mention, the govt. enlisted engineers weren't too smart and they messed up on the cement that holds the poles in the ground. Apparently, it settled more than anticipated, thereby creating gaps wide enough between them for illegals to fit through.

IMO, the virtual fence is a better solution as it tracks movement. But, I am sure 'they' will get around that one too. If fences worked, we wouldn't need 3 locks on our doors. And there wouldn't be razor wire on top of fences at jails where prisoners still manage to escape.

I agree Jane, Elections have consequences, study the candidates, hopefully we wont make some of the mistakes that were made in '06. Such as the Hayworth/Mitchell race. J.D. FOR GOVERNOR!!

if the government really wanted to stop illegal immigration into our nation, it would be very easy to do. just bring home our troops from BOSNIA and KOREA and put them on BOTH of our borders to stop this continuous invasion of america. if it were my choice, i would also issue orders of "shoot to kill" anyone who attempted to cross illegally. that would put an end to all of it in less than a month!!!!!

Tunnels, Ron, Tunnels!!! If you have enough gumption, you will find away around, thru, over or under a fence.

If you want to stop illegal Mexican immigration, stop buying all that crap that is made in China and start buying the crap made in Mexico. There will be jobs for Mexicans in Mexico. Plus it might be better made and cheaper.

I think the reason that fence's construction has been halted is because of all of the FEMA camp fences being built. Our government is more concerned with mimicing Nazi Germany than protecting our national soverignity.

No fence necessary, real or virtual. I believe a mine field would be cheaper and more affective. Heck, even a sign in seven different languages saying that this is a mine feild and the phrase "do you feel lucky, do ya?"

I agree somthing must be done.
Here is some Questions.
Did the great wall of China work?
Did the Berlin wall work?
Have you seen familys DIE in mine fieds?
How many has died between North And South Korea?
If you would not vote for any Polatician with over two terms we would not need any fence!
It is the good old boys and girls that is making millions being a polatician that is the problem.

The great wall of china did work.
The berlin wall did work.
Nobody will be pushing these people through the mine field. I said there would be warning signs in seven languages. If they are stupid enough to proceed so be it.
The point is that they are ruining our economy, creating a dangerous envinronment for our children, stealing money through welfare and medical expenses that a lot of american children can't obtain and work for less than minimum wage taking jobs away from the parents of these children. By not taking a strong, and yes, drastic stance on the illegal invasion of our country you can say goodby to life here as we know it.

kiali.... as cadman said, the wall of berlin did work. as did the great wall of china. no, i have not seen families die in minefields.... SO WHAT???????? what we are experiencing is an INVASION of our country!!!!!!! and blaming it on "greed", or "It is the good old boys and girls that is making millions being a polatician that is the problem.", (your exact words, by the way.) does NOT make the case for not doing anything to protect our borders!
and by the way, the only incumbent i have EVER voted for was ronald reagan!!

And some want the Government to run health care! Personally, I don't think we should let the Federal Government run anything except for what is specifically its duty as spelled out in the US Constitution. They have botched Social Security, Education, Welfare and the list goes on and on. Why would anyone with an IQ above 3, think the federal government can properly run anything, based on the last 230 years of its history?

We were recently doing some research and working on a few projects involving rights for same-sex marriage and couples. It is against our Arizona Constitution, is unjust, un-constitutional, against the fourteenth amendment in the US constitution, and against the Declaration of Independence. For example our fourteenth amendment in the US Constitution guarantees equal protection of law to all, regards of religion, sex, national origin, or race! We, as a country, should follow these laws, and amendments. They were created for the good of our people. What good will they do, if we don't support them, and enforce them? We are all people, and when will equal mean equal? Straight marriage wasn't voted upon, why should the gay marriage be? Is that what equal means?

You reported the Baptists sending aid to hurricane victims soon.. The LDS Church sent theirs before the storm hit to be there for the victims earlier. Why don't you report this? It is too common the lDS Church helps out...so they don't get it reported. Only the bad things a member does gets reported to reflect negatively on the LDS Church. I am not mad that you reported about the Baptists...I just think you could have included that the other Churches also are helping out. What about Catholic Relief Services?? What have they done?? Check it out also and report on them also??
