John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate has the potential to be a true game changer in the race for the presidency.  Here are a few things about her that you'll be learning in the coming days.

She was born in Sandpoint, Idaho to two school employees, her mom a secretary, and her dad a science teacher and track coach.  They all moved to Alaska when she was a child, and there she developed her love for the outdoors...spending time hunting, ice fishing, and riding snowmobiles.

After serving on the city council in Wasilla, and serving in some other government positions, she took on the incumbent Republican governor, beating him in the primary, then beating the Democrat, Tony Knowles, in the general election in 2006.

Funny that we all heard so much about the "bndge to nowhere" pork barrel project in Alaska.  It didn't make nearly the headlines when that project was cancelled...by Sarah Palin.  It also sounds like she's butted heads with lots of powerful men in Alaska, either before becoming governor, or since then...and doesn't seem to back down a lot.

We'll learn a lot more about "Sarah Barracuda," which was her nickname was during her years playing for the girls basketball team at Wasilla High School, in the coming days.

But, I'm wondering if you think the obvious play for Hillary Clinton's supporters, will work.  I know this much...it certainly knocked Barack Obama out of the headlines, just hours after his speech at Invesco in Denver.

What? this is the biggest joke since the britney, paris hilton ad. Palin is pro life, the majority of clinton supporters are pro choice. Palin is nothing but a token woman for the Republicans she and all women need to be ashamed of this pick because it was clearly to get clintons supporters and for nothing else.

I find it interesting how the inexperience of Obama was the rallying point for Mccain's campaign now Mccain goes and get someone like Palin with less experience. I dont want to hear how shes the second in charge because Mccain is 72 and fighting cancer, theres a strong chance Palin would have to take over the Presidency and where would we be then. I'm sorry Al qaida and the Taliban dont play hockey.

Obama needs to sit back and ride this one straight to the White House.

Ron you also conveniently failed to mention:

On July 11, 2008, Palin dismissed Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan for not adequately filling state trooper vacancies, and because he "did not turn out to be a team player on budgeting issues." She instead offered him a position as executive director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which he turned down. Her power to fire him is not in dispute, but Monegan alleged that his dismissal may have been an abuse of power tied to his reluctance to fire Palin's former brother-in-law, Alaska State Trooper Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a divorce and child custody battle with Palin's sister, Molly McCann.

Palin replaced Monegan with Chuck Kopp, dismissing as false allegations that Kopp had sexually harassed a subordinate. (wiki)

Good luck with her wanting to teach "Creationism" to your children in school. I bet those 8500 people she was the mayor for in Alaska really tested her, what a joke.

Where is the outrage over this Affirmative action hire, Palin is no where near the Most qualified person for the job and was only hired because shes a woman. Obama fought hard for the DNC nomination and won because he has the ability to run this country not because he's black.

She was a Mayor for a town of 8700 and is being investigated for abuse of power as Governor and the only Foreign policy experience she has is that Alaska is near Russia.

Got to love liberals that now realize their man is less than our woman. Guess what, it doesn't matter that you think she is a token. Her record is far more clear than Obama's. Her accomplishments are far greater than Obama's. And best of all we already know more about her than Obama and he has been in the race since last year. Why does he not come clean with his positions. Why does he not produce a valid birth certificate. He is still a shadow in the dark. And he clearly has less experience than Gov Palin.

NoFear-Your right...these liberals sit around spouting their garbage and little do they know that the only thing between them and socialism, or maybe they would better understand communism, is the conservatives in this country fighting for the rights of all of us.

Whether you like her or not, I think this will be the most interesting race in a long time. Hillary must be having a fit. Funny how the liberals are always saying how Republicans discriminate against women, now they are saying Palin won't be able to handle being Vice President and have five kids at the same time. What a bunch of hypocrites.

This was a horrible choice for McCain. It's a bad choice for many reasons. The The one that stands out the most is "Experience." If this doesn't speak of John McCain and the entire Republican party as the biggest hypocrits on Earth I don't know what does. They bagged on Obama for his inexperience but then they select Palin. With John McCain possibly ready to croak, this would be the woman to take over as President of the United States...??? Yet they say Obama isn't ready based on his experience?? Are they trying to now say that experience doesn't matter? And are you being serious NoFear? Anyone who cannot acknowledge what a bad decision this was for McCain is clearly being dishonest to this board. If you can honesty sit up here and try to preach about Palin's accomplishments then you're clearly a hypocrit and with the Republican Party no matter what decisions they make. That's worse than being a liberal.

Great choice, Sarah Palin is nobodys fool. She will smoke Biden and would probably take out Obama in a one on one debate. She has more executive experience than any of the other candidates. She will bring a fresh smell to government not the same old cigar smoking cronies.

It remains to be see how much she will help. The Dem's are whining way too much. She may well be inexperienced but lets compare Palin to B.S. Barry.

B.S. Barry - several months as a community organizer.
Seven years as a State Senator, a part time job by the way.
143 working days as U.S. Senator.
Executive experience none.
Legislative accomplishments – got a bill passed in Illinois State that forced medical professionals to let a fetus that survived a botched abortion die.

Gov. Palin – Two terms as mayor Wasilla Alaska.
Chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
Governor of Alaska since Dec 2006, also Head of the Alaska National Guard.
Executive experience aprox 1,460 days
Legislative accomplishments – cleaned up corrupt Alaskan state government.

Just for fun Joe Bidens executive experience none.
Legislative accomplishments – got bankruptcy reform bill passed making it more difficult for middle class and poor people to declare bankruptcy and get rid of Oh say credit card debt. Did I mention that Joe represents Delaware the home of the credit card industry?

Obama and Biden just more of the same old tired Democratic crap.

I’ll take my chances with the real reformers McCain and Palin.

I like the comment "her accomplishements are greater then Obama's" On what may I ask? Moose hunting? Also the other quote is a good one. Obama and Biden just more of the same old tired Democrats. I think McCain may be older then Obama and Palin combined. Happy 103rd Birthday John (give or take a couple of years)

All you Dems, the inexperience arguement is not going to work against a vice pres pick. Especially if the pres pick has none either. That won't hold water with the blue collar workers. It is like working at a company for 15 years and having a high school student come in and work 6 months and get the advancement to supervisor. Hard working blue collar , middle class people are not as gullible as you Dems think they are. Up until the conventions most don't even pay attention to politics, but now that they will soon be over and we have the 4 players in place they will start paying attention. And when they do the polls for Obama will drop like a rock. He should have been up 10 to 15 points before the DNC and he was dead even. That goes to show how weak he really is. Ya'll should have picked Hillary.

Am I the only one who's laughing at the laughable reaction and thin defense of McCain's own "Harriet Miers" pick for VP?

The defense goes something like this:” John McCain made a brilliant choice. Oh, and her lack of experience? We'll see. We'll see."

I'm stunned by such a choice made by McCain. Absolutely stunned. And, I don't mean stunned in the political sense. If elected she will occupy a very precarious position in government should President John McCain succumb to cancer or some other malady.

One can only shudder at the thought of such a person taking over the responsibilities of the Office of the President of the United States.

Folks, this choice is nothing short of a coin toss. The same can be said for smooth talking Barrack Obama. How in Heaven's name could the Republicans hammer away at Obama's "lack of experience" for so long and, yet, pull a political stunt that we witnessed this past week with McCain's choice?

I guess, "we'll see".

When Sara gets in the Dems face,She will make Biden's plugs pop out,and Obamma hair straight.
They will attack her when she's not in the room, and say she's a bully when she is.She won't even take names.Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. When her husband sits in the front row at the debate, Biden will soil himself.
