If there seriously is concern over wasted energy - why is it that there are numerous commercial properties that are allowed to keep huge neon signs lit all night?  I can see the need for hotels, gas or convenience locations that are open -- and I'll even give in to having "security lights" (lights that allow the criminals to see better) but to see all of the huge neon lights lit at 2am on stores like Mattress Giant, Hooters, Sears, etc., etc., just seems like a gigantic waste of our energy.  Some of these companies have two or three large signs which are lit all night long.  Why?

I understand that these people pay less for their energy needs however I just still see it as a huge waste of our energy.  Sure, they can afford the cost, but it is still a waste.

A short while back there was some talk of limited this, but if I heard correctly it didn't make it past committee or something.

Sooner or later we are going to have to bite the bullet when it comes to our energy - why not start now and hope it gets better?

You make a good point. Maybe it would be easier for a City Council to pass an ordinance to address the issue than it would be for a State Legislature to pass a law concerning the issue.

You stated these people pay less for energy well that explains it they pay less to they can waste more . Cigna healthcare is the same way they have so many lights on in the office in a given day when they could turn some of them off but hey they dont care

I never really ever considered this but it is a legitimate concern. Too, I always wondered about those flights with like, 9 of us on board. What a waste!

Just one point. Neon lights burn VERY little energy.

Talk about a waste of energy, look how much fuel the space shuttle burns up every time they send it up. Do they really have that much business up in space? Yet another hole in the ozone layer....hello global warming.

But without the space shuttle there would not have many many energy saving devices invented. The microwave oven for one.

Lets get really in to this. Look at the energy money wasted keeping a scumbag in prison.

My idea went to capping them. A bullet cost 10 cents.

Rusty Nickel just about describes me. I'm a bit rusty and don't really have two nickels to rub together. Retired retail executive who now works part-time in the home mortgage field. Travel extensively throughout North and East Texas, sometimes logging as much as 1200 miles per week. Work when I want to, play when I need to. Hobbies include cooking (eating), gardening and entertaining grandchildren. Dislike obnoxious people, arragant people and those who are so one sided that they need to be propped up so they don't fall over. Can't understand why parents fail to raise children who respect others and take responsibility for their own actions. I have a couple of "rotten kids" who have a couple of "rotten kids" -- and, I admit that I've probably had a hand in making 'em that way. I love kids, dogs, fast cars and lots of good food. Hate commercials that show foods that I can never get when I order the same thing....still love to cook and hate to clean up afterwards.
