County Roads

Wondering if anyone can help me with the numbering system used to number County Roads in Texas?  Wife and I were looking for friends who've moved and only had an address of a County Road in Van Zandt County.  While driving down Hwy 3080 noticed that the roads were numbered as such:  CR 2812, then CR 2810, then came CR 2813 and then CR 2815.   What kind of numbering system is this?   Also, there is another CR 2813 in Henderson County that is no where near the Van Zandt road.  Boy, is this confusing!

Well, Henderson County is a different county, so it will have roads numbered the same...kind of like multiple cities having the same street name (Main, Broadway, 1st).

Sometimes I wokder if they use darts to choose the numbers!

The way these roads are spider webbed in every direction some are through roads some are not, even if you started with roads a,b,c when you drive to the other end you would not have an order to them. I don't know if that makes sense but you have to start somewhere and you won't end up with that same order on the backside of those roads.

I've never been good at directions. You can put me in a brown paper bag and I'll get lost in less that 5 seconds. Wish I could help ya'll. I don't even know where Van Zandt is.

Rusty Nickel just about describes me. I'm a bit rusty and don't really have two nickels to rub together. Retired retail executive who now works part-time in the home mortgage field. Travel extensively throughout North and East Texas, sometimes logging as much as 1200 miles per week. Work when I want to, play when I need to. Hobbies include cooking (eating), gardening and entertaining grandchildren. Dislike obnoxious people, arragant people and those who are so one sided that they need to be propped up so they don't fall over. Can't understand why parents fail to raise children who respect others and take responsibility for their own actions. I have a couple of "rotten kids" who have a couple of "rotten kids" -- and, I admit that I've probably had a hand in making 'em that way. I love kids, dogs, fast cars and lots of good food. Hate commercials that show foods that I can never get when I order the same thing....still love to cook and hate to clean up afterwards.
