Whatever happened to the idea of QUICKLY removing minor accidents from the Interstate Highways in and around Dallas/Ft. Worth?  Sunday there was a minor accident in the canyon on I-30.  The damage was barely visible to the two vehicles.  It had been pushed off on the right shoulder, yet the Dallas Police officer had the two right lanes blocked with his squad car!  It took us over an hour to move the two or three miles of the backup.  And, there was only one officer at the scene.  Another officer who could help to direct the flow of traffic would make some sense.  I think, sometimes, that they do this just to cause delays.  Surely there must be some logical reason.  Oh, is it that I just live in hope of better times?

I asked this same question some time ago...it was a BIG deal..moving the vehicles assuming no injuries out in 15 minutes..all the tow companies were on a rotating "on call "system..I think they get a big power lift seeing us sitting wasting time and gasoline... When I lived up north they would waylay you and make you exit MILES before a huge backup formed..they had entrance ramps blocked..had to stay on the frontage and you also had to exit....they didn't allow or want those messes the DFW areas seem to embellish..but then there would be no need for our traffic guys....and we would miss Chip!!!

This is simple arrogance and a misuse of power by the DPD. I see it all the time. Even ChopperChip makes comments on his live reports. It is senseless and an affront to people trying to make it to work or home in a timely manner.

I travel between 800 & 1000 miles per week. You can see my frustrations over this sort of thing. Then, on a Sunday afternoon -- I just don't understand what the thinking is. No injuries - MOVE THEM AND OPEN THE FREEWAY. AND, THANK GOD FOR CHIP.

The back up was becoming thick BECAUSE HE WAS GETTING A TICKET!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! Waste time on your own time, not on everyone elses!

Oh, wait, Nived. I was headed to a Dallas Stars game last week - going down 75 south. Traffic started to back up and slow. After 15 minutes I got to the scene. KNow what it was? 3 flares blocking two lanes. No cars. No cops. NO nothing but 3 flares typing up traffic. Unbelievable arrogance.

What I've never understood is what is gained from six hours of "investigation" after the cars have been moved from the actual position resulting from the accident. And, then what is done with this information? Do they actually show up in court to explain their findings?
It just infuriates me that they (they being the muscle bound, shaved head, egotistical, smart***ed, young officers of the different police agencies) can spend hours upon hours testing ppl's nerves and fortitude.
Move the vehicles and get the police cars out of the lanes of traffic and allow people to freely move to their destinations.

I couldn't agree more, Rusty. What irks me about police officers (and I know we absolutely need them) is the way they lie in court. Even when the defendant is guilty the prosecution still finds it necessary to lie. Still others lie just to obtain the conviction. It's a terrible, terrible blight on our justice system. The arrogance is garnered from a media and public that gives the nod to the police in nearly every instance of questionable work. Rather than cause them to take it easy, it emboldens them. Traffic arrogance is just one thing they do that irritates the poublic. If the public knew what all happens in court, they'd be astonished.

It bugs me, too. But too many fatalities happen from rubber-neckers only leaving their lane by a foot or two. That's all it takes. At least they have a lane or two of buffer by closing those lanes (if that is their reasoning).

I can understand that, cops, but the time is incredibly long. These cops move around like their with the Teamsters for crying out loud!

if these accidents are like the ones I have been involved in. I have to keep the other illegal immigrant non insurance carrying ass out of his car to keep them from fleeing so I can get a police report to turn into my insurance. So I can can reap the reward of higher insurance on my renewal because some non english speaking jackass will not follow the laws of this land.

My daughter was hit by an uninsured immigrant who was BACKING up in the tolltag lane because he did not have a tolltag..he suddenly realized...but he also said he did not have any money..what was he was doing on the tollroad???? He tried to drive away..."No speaka English"....she reached in and grabbed his keys from his ignition so he could not leave (not very smart of her) but she was so mad..he had 3 forms of ID all different names and addresses..no insurance...no registation and even when they sent a Spanish speaking officer to the scene he basically "walked away"..Do you think he showed up for his court date????

I would like to know what the policy is for showing a car accident (4-2-08 Grapevine - Good Day morning news)that has resulted in a death. It obviously had just happened and Chip preceeded in describing how the person died. I certainly hope the family members were notified first - how horrible to see your husbands car on TV and finding out thru a traffic reporter that he had died.

You do bring up an excellent point. Notification of next of kin should be a precedent in a matter such as this.
Yes, I know that "it is news" but for God's sake, what about the family?

tourist and rubberneckers. Like some these people don't have roads or freeways where they come from. Still horses and buggies. :-)

Rusty Nickel just about describes me. I'm a bit rusty and don't really have two nickels to rub together. Just trying to get along in a world of riches. I'm living in a champagne world drinking water and trying to keep my head up above that. I've a couple of "rotten kids" who have a couple of "rotten kids" and I admit that I probably had a hand in making 'em that way. I love dogs, kids, fast cars and lots of good food. Love to cook, but hate to clean up afterwards.
