No proof of insurance  -- car gets towed.

What's the consensus on this issue?  I, for one, do NOT feel that towing a persons car for failing to have insurance is a just cause.    Giving the driver of the vehicle a ticket will move traffic along much, much quicker than to have the bald headed, muscle bound, egotistical, arrogant occifer sitting in his squad car doing nothing but holding up traffic for one to three hours waiting for a wrecker.

You are kidding, right?

So, when that driver moves along and slams into you and your insurance goes up 25% because you had to file a claim, you are OK with that?

It's ludicrous...

Do you really believe towing the car will do any good? They will just let the car go back and buy another. If they can't buy insurance, then how do you think they can pay the fine and towing and impound fees? I wish Texas had no fault insurance. If you have a wreck, everyone fixes their own car regardless of who was at fault.

Tow the car. The person who is driving without insurance is not going to show up in court to pay the fine either. They will just keep on driving at the risk of everyone else around them.

You obviously have never been hit by someone with no insurance. I HAVE. I had to fix my vehicle with MY insurance. If you can't afford insurance take the bus.

Towing their vehicles will given them a REAL BAD day and just maybe next time they are driving with NO insurance they might be a litte more careful and now plow into somebody.

Put the shoe on the other foot; if you're the uninsured - gambling you won't be punished - then NOT towing the vehicle (at a minimum) makes you the WINNER. The chances of getting caught, to begin with, are low...and now you want to give them back the vehicle so they can do exactly the same thing an hour later??

Technically, it's the vehicle that's not insured, so that "occifer" can't even consider allowing it to be driven another foot. Otherwise, that occifer has just authorized a violation of the law. It would be the same as arresting an operator for DUI and then letting him drive home.

If you drive drunk, you know the chances of going to jail are high. If you drive uninsured you "know or should know" that the chances of losing the vehicle are equally high.

Just WHO is being protected here???

I wish they would tow them where I live, or pass it all over the state...but again too many bleeding hearts, feel sorry for them cause they are poor minorities...I say scrape their tags and inspection sticker off too then impound it, and if a dealer tags a vehicle using their insurance instead of the buyers insurance...fine them too!! when a dealer in Texas sends a mass bundle of transfers to the tax office their is not a insurance card for each one, they just do it in masses....thats why they can go to these $100 down and buy a junker with tags and inspection for at least a year to drive it, unless they get caught....

An "occifer" is what you call a person who thinks they are a police officer, but just doesn't quite make it.

All of this makes great sense to the "tote the note" car lots. They get their car towed and go get another car that they don't pay the insurance for.

In the meantime, I'm sitting in traffic waiting for the blue and reds to go off so I can get to where I need to be.

It's a vicious circle. Towing the car is NOT going to make people get insurance. All it will do is increase the workload on the cops, cause tremendous traffic congestion.

when they lose their cars and cant work then our taxes go up to cover all the social services they start receiving. it's a no win situation

Yea when one of them runs into you and tears up your vehicle and your doing all the paperwork trying to get it fixed(with your money) then watch the attitude change....

so, do these uninsured motorists buy a new car when it's time to get it inspected? You have to have insurance to have it inspected. That's once a year. You have to show proof of insurance when you buy a car do you not? What do they do, pay for it for a month from these shady insurance companies and then drop it until they have to have it inspected?

No wait....they drive that uninsured car AND one that hasn't been inspected to be sure it's safe for the road. Come on...no more excuses for those people who whine because they can't afford insurance.

rusty, so the cops will have to work harder, boo hoo!! Your blog shows that you don't care much for cops anyway, so let them do their jobs.

Texas is a no fault State in a manner of speaking. Where a lot of perpescents occur (on purpose by a perpetrator primarily due to dumbing up at the wheel) is on private property and that is no fault territory. Having no car insurance is just like not having health insurance, those who do have it pay more because of those who do not.

Rusty, then make sure you have Uninsured Motorist added to your policy because the odds are now greater that you will be in an accident with somebody who doesn't have insurance.
I agree with CW58 TOW "EM ALL

Rusty Nickel just about describes me. I'm a bit rusty and don't really have two nickels to rub together. Retired retail executive who now works part-time in the home mortgage field. Travel extensively throughout North and East Texas, sometimes logging as much as 1200 miles per week. Work when I want to, play when I need to. Hobbies include cooking (eating), gardening and entertaining grandchildren. Dislike obnoxious people, arragant people and those who are so one sided that they need to be propped up so they don't fall over. Can't understand why parents fail to raise children who respect others and take responsibility for their own actions. I have a couple of "rotten kids" who have a couple of "rotten kids" -- and, I admit that I've probably had a hand in making 'em that way. I love kids, dogs, fast cars and lots of good food. Hate commercials that show foods that I can never get when I order the same thing....still love to cook and hate to clean up afterwards.
