Anyone else as amazed as I on the number of roll over accidents that occur on our freeways?  It seems that each time we see a picture from the Fox4 Chopper,  there is a SUV on it's top or side that has been involved in an accident.  Is it the design of the vehicles or could it just be the fact that there are that many people who drive our freeways that just do not  have control over the vehicles they drive?  Many times it seems that it is a one vehicle accident!  How does this happen?

No, I don't think its the freeways and byways, I think it operator malfunction. People are doing other things than driving and paying attenion to the road and others around them. Its so damn rediculous! This is one reason why more and more people are dying because of others not paying any never mind on the road and paying all mind to the phone, meal, paper work, make up, radio, nav system, all this other BLEEP that its just DEADLY and rediculous! "both hands on the wheele, pay attention to the road." What are we teaching our teens to do while they drive or are in driving school? I think people as a whole are a bad influence on teens and thier driving habits. I am as guilty as the next person, but I have really toned it down alot. I even try not to talk on my BLUE TOOTH while driving because its distracting to my area of the brain for paying attenion to different and IMPORTANT things. I'm getting off my soap box before I get my self in trouble.

I agree with Nived23 - a great deal of this has to do with driver inattention. However, I also believe that in accidents involving large trucks crossing medians has much to do with the trucks being in the left lane, slowing down traffic, and causing frustration in the cars behind them. Recently I made a trip to San Antonio, and noticed signs on I-35 starting north of Austin prohibiting trucks from being in the left lane. I think that is a brilliant idea. Large trucks have no business in the left lane, unless they are passing or avoiding a traffic hazard. I believe that if we could pass the same law in north Texas, we would see an improvement in the accident rate.

True barradreamer! I am actually about to marry a trucker and he would strongly agree with you. No trucks should be aloud in the hammer lane in the first place NATION WIDE!!! But you do have a good point about the accidents and having no choice but to be there. You are right, my friend! Good points!

This is just an observation from a truck driver that many people do not understand or realize. The fact that we may or may not be in the fast lane will never stop the accident rate because no matter which lane we are in there are people that are so impatient and in all honesty are ignorant around big trucks. What most people do not realize is that 60percent of the area around the truck is a blind spot. So if someone is on the side of you and they turn on the blinker and swirve in front of you there is no way to see them and thus goes the clipping such as what happened to the cement trucker on Friday. Another fact that people dont really understand or realize is that a truck can be hauling up to 60,000 pounds of freight. So when someone slams on the brakes in front of you it takes a big truck like this at 60 mph the length of a football field to make a complete stop.

I just doubt that until people actually educate them selves on the big trucks that us staying out of the left lane is obselete as far as accidents go. I pesonally see that in the DFW area most of the slow downs are not from the truckers but from cars going to slow or from car on car colisions from people going to fast.

Rusty Nickel just about describes me. I'm a bit rusty and don't really have two nickels to rub together. Retired retail executive who now works part-time in the home mortgage field. Travel extensively throughout North and East Texas, sometimes logging as much as 1200 miles per week. Work when I want to, play when I need to. Hobbies include cooking (eating), gardening and entertaining grandchildren. Dislike obnoxious people, arragant people and those who are so one sided that they need to be propped up so they don't fall over. Can't understand why parents fail to raise children who respect others and take responsibility for their own actions. I have a couple of "rotten kids" who have a couple of "rotten kids" -- and, I admit that I've probably had a hand in making 'em that way. I love kids, dogs, fast cars and lots of good food. Hate commercials that show foods that I can never get when I order the same thing....still love to cook and hate to clean up afterwards.
